Looking back, my time spent with MDMA was some of the best times of my life for sure. Melting away to music at raves or with friends sitting around talking about how much we loved each other and happy we were or orgies and gangbangs with numerous hot "respectable young ladies" Coming down off a roll and going to watch the sun come over over the ocean while listening to Porcelain by Moby, I got goose bumps just writing that. However that part of my life has came and gone and I don't think I could go back even if I wanted.

MDMA will eventually fry your serotonin receptors. It's usefulness has a finite amount of time.

I've done both many times, and I do not think they should be legal. I have witnessed what happens when the weak minded take these drugs, and it isn't pretty. In the appropriate setting, these drugs can do wonders. Allowing anyone to do anything, anywhere is a horrible idea. Most people aren't responsible enough to handle the freedom.

About 150 years ago there was no DRUG PROBLEM.
You had Opium dens. A very small portion of the population could be found there.

Moving forward to the 20th century, the government used its power to monopolize drug usage in the name of public safety (even if it was right).

Remember the 1920s?
This is what happens when puritanism meets feminism. You get a massive crime organization.
Almost the same, but much slower happened with drugs.

So today you have a lot of illegal drugs, a dark industry with billions of dollars in revenues and a government that does a lot - to reduce civil rights in the name of "war on drugs".

Just imagine what would happen if you did not have:
1. Risk premium
2. All those billions of $ to finance "the war"
3. A choice.

And I would not touch it myself.

Although I do agree with you that, for the most part, socially conditioned people (aka normal people) probably wouldn't agree with mind altering chemicals. This is due to the fact that these chemicals (psilocybin, dmt,/any entheogens) break down social conditioning/condition patterns of thought and/or instinct.For example most of what you think you know is false, as in (Im just a person, I am against the world,the world is against me, be a good boy, get a job, be a slave, work till I'm 65 , THIS IS THE WAY THINGS ARE, maybe THEY will look after me when I'm old sort of bullshit. With that being said, yes these substances have REAL power to change minds. So when a normal person takes these....guess what?....fucking meltdown, NO NO NO this is not what I expected......aka bad trips. It can be extremely difficult to let go of your own ego and what you are conditioned to believe

At the same time, people really need to wake the fuck up and take control of THEIR LIVES. And fear is such a huge part of it. eg If i stop working then I'll have no money to do this, and this..... and spend my money on useless shit. I myself have taking many substances (have not taken DMT yet ), to say that they don't change your mindset is just plain wrong. Fair enough If people don't want to take a chemical, but for fucks sake, don't say that I'm some junkie because I want to alter my consciousness. It should be your own human right . Iv'e been guilty of taking drugs for the sake of getting high (short term pleasure), but entheogens will defrag your mind and make you really think about everything differently.

My theory is that the government don't want these legal is because they go against the belief of what we think we know, and should do, aka ( be a slave etc etc)

And the bans which were supposed to keep people safe just encouraged chemists to create new and untested, often dangerous substances, and people who could just pick them up at the corner head shop would do so rather than driving into the ghetto asking a homeless guy if he knew where to score. Prodrugs and prohormones are also created due to the bans, most of these will stress a person's liver and cause more damage than the drug which was made illegal ever could have.

What is the social and economic impact of alcohol being legal? Certainly worse than LSD and mushroom would be if they were made legal. We're not talking about heroin. Hell, there's evidence that the fire-retardant chemicals added to the foam in your couch and mattress cause more societal harm than hallucinogenics. We keep alcohol legal because demand made it necessary to do so, not because it was the morally responsible choice, and not that I'm complaining about it. It shouldn't be the responsibility of government to keep people safe from themselves particularly when their decisions are based more on lobbyist dollars and how many voters they'll piss off rather than sound science.

When I was in Netherlands buying mushrooms years ago the guy was saying that it was soon to have a waiting period to purchase because a single tourist had a bad trip and jumped off a building. These are rare and isolated instances which are blown out of proportion by the media and politicians with their own agenda. Bad trips happen, most people get over them, and if a couple weak-minded individuals die every year, well, that's natural selection at work. If people can't handle the freedom then they are free to not exercise it.

If its a chemical/processed/man made I think it should at least be regulated like alchohol not 'banned'. This keeps the dangers/risks of the product at the forefront and keeps people from marketing it to children etc. Cigarettes are also another good example.

If its a natural plant ,like weed or shrooms, definitely no on regulation or prohibition. Its a plant?! For example, if you brew white cedar tea correctly you will destroy any cold you have along with the deepest sleep of your life. If you brew it wrong, you don't wake up from the deep sleep. Should we ban cedar trees? What about poison ivy? All poisonous berries perhaps!

Another good example is Coca leaves vs. processed cocaine. Coca leaves/trees yes! Cocaine...just regulated.

To be fair she was only a few weeks pregnant and had just got kicked out of her house when she told her parents she was pregnant. You just described my life story, you sentimental bastard. I got hold of some bad weed (laced with PCP) when I was 17 or so and freaked the fuck out. I was put on Lexapro and shit like that to alleviate panic attacks for the next few years. Life's never been the same since, but I like to think that I made out ok.

Shrooms and acid could be legal but the dominant culture has decided that it is not the case.

Mind altering substances and ties to 'evil' have strong cultural roots that date far longer than modern day prohibitions arose.

The way alcohol is frowned upon in Islamic societies comes to mind.

For heavy hallucinogenic substances to be legal, the mainstream culture has to allow for that to happen. Mainstream culture has to be at ease, and feel safe enough to allow such legislations to pass.

As for other drugs, it's really a fine line. China was not happy about its opium problem, and went to war to have the opium shipments from British ships stopped. The west has used heavy handed tactics to keep cocaine and heroin from becoming a prevalent passtime. And what of the crack epidemic?

There really is a fine line of what we can have free access to. Human nature is such that if everything was legal, we'd seriously be fucked up. All the time.
