I've used both and I think they changed my mindset for the better. I think they're illegal because they would be difficult to tax and generally seem to make people less inclined to consumerism.

What is your perspective?

Good mushrooms and LSD are strong. In the same way drinking a fifth of vodka in a hour or two is strong, doing good mushrooms is strong. There is some inherent danger to giving that to the masses. How do you regulate driving? Work? Etc.

I've done a lot of both and still am hesitant to make them legal so that any idiot can go to the store, grab both, do both and then do some kind of job where people could be killed.

They just seem a bit too powerful for most people. So essentially, I think there are too many idiots.

DMT at the very least should be legal, considering it's already inside humans.

The powers that be don't want these things legal though, they'd rather people get sloshed on alcohol and act like retards then use conscious expanding substances.

I think we're at the stage now where we can just call drug prohibition "bloodthirst".

Regulation of drug consumption should be exclusively in the private realm, with the exception of any drugs which compel the taker to immediately commit violent crime.

The government does not like it when people think things that aren't agreed upon by the controllers. Naturally, shrooms and acid fall within the realm of shit that gets your REALLY thinking outside of the box.

I know a few guys who make it a part of their yearly routine to trip and they say it really helps refresh their vision of the world. It's sort of like defragmenting your harddrive after years and years of bullshit. I don't agree with doing shrooms or acid, but I can see where these guys are coming from.

A lot of drugs should be legalized.

Put them in the hands of someone who is responsible and drugs can be beneficial and even allow one to learn about themselves and their surrounding world...

But give it to the standard fool and he may very well take too much, just use it to get fucked up, scare people around him if he's incapacitated while in public, etc.

Psychedelics definitely have the potential of being more beneficial than most drugs...being illegal doesn't prevent people from using them anyway.

RE: Should acid and shrooms be illegal? Why even are they against the law?
I've got a fair amount of experience with both and as much as they affected me in a good way, they weren't without their drawbacks. I'm aware that not all of that sentiment comes from the drugs themselves, it's equally the set and setting, people I was around at that time in my life. I've had LSD four times but honestly, once was enough. The first time blew me away and changed my life forever. The second time carried on where the first left off. The third time just felt redundant. I also had a full on bad trip the fourth time.

Man, what I wouldn't give to relive those times again sometimes.

RE: Should acid and shrooms be illegal? Why even are they against the law?
All drugs should be legal. Making them illegal has no positive effect what so ever. The demand is always going to be there and it's just a question of who is going to offer the supply. Will it be criminal orginsations, who can ask insane prices because of the risks they take and who don't give a shit about what their product does to end users? Or will it be commercial companies whose best interest is keeping end users safe and happy?

Also, the amount of tax money that can be saved by stopping the war on drugs and can be made by taxing all drugs sold is insanely high!

Yes they should be legal, no thing you do to your own body should be illegal. People gotta learn that being responsible for your actions and thinking ahead is part of being an adult, just because some dipshit gets sloppy drunk and crashes his car is no reason to make alcohol illegal-and it is the same with all drugs. Taking hallucinogens responsibly in a good environment will help people get perspective on their insignificance and help them stop being assholes to each other. In closing , spread player love, and have sex with someone attractive you just met today.

Because there are a lot of stupid and irresponsible people who would cause problems for decent people if these drugs were legal.

I realise that, but drugs like mushrooms and LSD increase stupid people's capacity for doing stupid stuff.

I have nothing against those substances, and I believe they can be beneficial to some people in the right situation.

RE: Should acid and shrooms be illegal? Why even are they against the law?
Most drugs are illegal because a lot of crooked feds earn serious amounts of bribe money from the drug lords that produce them. As much money as they could make from decriminilisation, and the market monopoly they would undoubtedly acquire, it would never be as much as they are getting handed under the table now (and that would make it taxable income - the horror!). Also, such an act would prove beneficial to everyone, and that is simply not allowed.

You tend to find that a lot of tryptamine based substances (DMT, especially) are produced in small backyard labs by people who simply enjoy using it themselves and don't want to be associated with the capitalist shitshow that is the "free market." The government doesn't want people taking these drugs because in general, interacting with the people associated with them and the way the drugs themselves affect you generally leads to a rather non-compliant mindset towards greed, war, corruption, hate, propaganda, selfishness, power, slavery, stupidity, and in general everything that makes the governing bodies what they are.

Problem with a lot of drugs is that stupid people take them and do stupid shit. This isn't because the "drugs made them do it," but because they were fuckwits before they took the drug. In contemporary society, it is standard practice to shift the blame to anything except yourself, so drugs get a bad rep from the morons that take them. The people that decry their use are generally those that haven't taken them, or only have experience with crack-addled fuckstains who haven't slept or eaten for 6 weeks and presume every last person who takes drugs acts in such a fashion.

The real truth is that probably 1 in 3 people (probably even more) you meet is a drug addict to some degree, and likely doesn't even realise it. Prescription medication earns big pharma (ie; the man) BIG money. The greatest irony about this is most prescription meds will do far more serious damage to your health when abused in the long term than some of the scariest illegal drugs out there, but doctors are given rather lush incentives for every packet of the latest benzo/ssri/snri/etc they sell you, because they numb the feeling of discomfort the general population experiences in a society that makes no sense to their animal minds.

Drugs like acid and psilocybin (the main active ingredient in shrooms), don't make you lazy or stupid, rather they give you a truer sense of your own animal instincts (ie; you "find yourself") and a realistic view on what is really necessary in life. You discover the finer things in life are the simple ones that money can't buy when you have a chance to view the world from a fresh perspective. This is an incredibly dangerous outcome for a government that relies entirely on faith and doping to keep their minions faithfully and unquestionably enslaved.

There are mountains of propaganda, falsified studies, lies, bullshit, slander, and just general misinformation when it comes to drug use and its effects. Almost none of it is true, and anyone who has actually tried a variety of drugs (not the weekend warriors who get shitfaced and "overdose" on some shitty pill that was most likely meth and talcum powder and embarrass themselves) and taken note of how it affects them and their friends psychologically and physically can tell you that the general consensus on how they affect society is a complete and utter lie. The only real problems with drug use is people are misinformed as to their effects, and so don't use them as they should, and that you are generally forced to associate with criminals in order to obtain them, and that is where the borderline dickheads turn into proper scum.

Many drugs that are illegal today have historically been prescribed for almost every ailment imaginable - for good reason. Most of them have generally positive effects on health and well being when used appropriately, but big pharma doesn't care about actually curing our health issues, they just want us to live longer so that they can extract the most money possible from us.

I could write endlessly on this topic, so I'll stop now before this post turns into a full length novel, but basically:

TL;DR: the government likes having power and doesn't want society to realise that power is based simply on their own belief in it. Drugs are dangerous, not to the user, but to the government for this reason. Drugs don't harm society in the ways the government would have you believe - it's mostly the government causing the harm, in fact. Prescription drugs are more harmful to society than decriminalising those commonly believed to be the cause of societal degradation would be.

Yep just like alcohol, but government doesn't ban that. Actually it did once, and everyone redoubled their drinking and the tommy-gun wielding gangster booze traffickers had shootouts in the streets.

Although to be fair, at least that was back when they followed the constitution, and they rightfully passed an amendment to permit the federal government to prohibit that product. In spite of this precedent, the Supreme Court now decides that "regulate interstate commerce" means "control or prohibit any activity whatsoever anywhere".

The fact of the matter is that acid and shrooms are legal on a federal level, because the federal government has no constitutional power to prohibit the sale and possession of them. The constitution has an aberration in its self-enforcement, exacerbated by the 17th amendment, in that the final arbiter of state-federal power disputes is the federal judiciary.

RE: Should acid and shrooms be illegal? Why even are they against the law?
Drugs are legal...but only just enough to keep the public at bay.

Part of me actually believes that. Prohibition on everything would cause an uprising, allowing everything 'bad' (no sex laws, no drug laws, no scalping laws, things many believe aren't good societal behavior) would create a far less stable society.

We allow alcohol, now some marijuana, for the younger and more wild crowds, but both still very heavily regulated.

We allow prescription drugs to allow women the right to behave like men and maintain a dull sanity, offsetting the disturbing underbelly of feminism, and to zombie-fy our young boys so they'll sit down and shut up to absorb the droning bull-shit liberalism your state-paid modern public screwal teachers spews forth for 7 hours a day.

Is that bad? I don't know. As libertarian as I am, I am well aware of the benefits of controlling drugs.

I was always the good kid who never partied and always went to church and have only tried *marijuana* a few times, all after I turned 30...but I wrote a paper when I was 16 about how pot should be legalized. You might say I'm a contrarian, or I've simply always been fairly grounded in reality, despite my uber conservative upbringing.

Even after answering in the minority (Yes, but never tried drugs), I'm not sure on my answer. Maybe we shouldn't legalize.

RE: Should acid and shrooms be illegal? Why even are they against the law?
You can get the experience of most of these drugs without going to a music festival or even breaking a single law. DMT is found in high quantities in Mimosa Hostilis root bark. Buy it online, soak it in alcohol and strain, save the juice and evaporate it over a couple days in the sun, toss the bark. It's been years, but if I recall correctly eating 30 grams after consuming an MAo inhibitor like harmine (not bad on its own either) will make you trip sack. Also violently vomit purple bile for a bit. You can smoke it too.

LSA found in Hawaiian baby woodrose seeds and to a lesser degree in morning glory is similar to LSD, smoking weed with it makes it exponetially more powerful. Same extraction but good to purify by soaking in naptha first, straining and tossing the naptha, evaportaing till dry, then doing the alcohol bit.

It's legal to buy mushroom spores and kits, peyote, poppy, and even iboga seeds, GBL... For the chemists out there TIHKAL and PIHKAL make an interesting read although some of their content might fall under "bath salts" laws these days.

A lot of the legal and natural shit is even more powerful than most illegal stuff, although generally less pleasant. I thought I was going to die a few times on stuff like jimson weed. Don't do much of anything on a regular basis anymore but agree that most of it's still fun and a good change of perspective once in a while, especially the hallucinogens. Keeps you honest with yourself.

RE: Should acid and shrooms be illegal? Why even are they against the law?
I have a lot of experience with both. There are pros and cons, as with everything.

On one hand, I full support an individual's right to self determination and having to deal with the consequences of their actions. It's your own fault if you take psychedelics with a bad mindset and/or a poor setting. A quick search of Erowid on what the drug does and reading a few trip reports, good and bad, can give you an idea of what to expect. People are stupid though, and generally don't do this. Legality would also let users know what they're taking. Unscrupulous dealers are selling NBOMe's as acid (if it's bitter, spitter), and people have terrible, sometimes even life threatening trips, because they didn't get the chemical they thought they bought. Kids taking 6+ E pills at shows, then get serotonin syndrome when they get sold a quality pill and eat it like a weak one. Having to rely on the black market for your drugs can be dangerous. I have a test kit now, but I've had some uncomfortable moments on unknown substances. Legality would, in theory, allow people to know exactly what they're about to ingest, as well as the actual amount.

Now, you also have "gray market" drugs, aka research chemicals, being produced and sold online. The chemists look at banned substances, figure out what makes them tick, and produce chemicals that should give similar results. These drugs go through a quick testing phase and are released. Usually they're banned after a couple of months, but a lot of people think that because they're not illegal, they must be safe. The MDMA substitutes are of course among the most popular. I've rolled many a time, but the first time I tried 6-APB at the "recommended" dose, I got serotonin syndrome. As the drugs are banned, the chemists produce new ones in a never ending cycle. Legality would let the Big 3, LSD, Shrooms, and MDMA, which all have a long history of human use, be sold at known doses. A safer route, in my opinion.

On the con side, psychedelics can also really fuck you up if you have a bad trip and you're not prepared for it. With veteran psych users, it's part of the game and you ride it out knowing you'll be back to relative sobriety in a few hours. Some people can't handle it and it leaves a serious emotional scar that can takes months or years to get over. There are also a few people with latent mental illness' that psychedelics can bring out.

People are stupid and use drugs irresponsibly. Psychedelics were no doubt banned in part by powerful people using them (or their kids) and having a bad trip. Ruins the fun for everyone. That's really the only "good" argument for continued criminalization.

At a minimum, they should be reduced to Schedule 3 or 4 in the US, and be decriminalized for personal use. LSD, Psilocybin, and MDMA in particular have legitimate psychiatric applications, and if someone ones to have some fun on their own time, is it really that big of a nuisance? Most who try psychedelics use them a few time throughout their life. Not a big deal.

As others have said in this thread, they'll probably be kept Schedule 1 because they do make you question the system that we're living in. The powers that be don't want that. They want you to be happy little slaves popping Soma with every meal.

Yeah the whole cause of that is it being driven underground. Vendors, merchants, and customers all have to operate in near-secrecy, so there is little review and reputation system. If it was sold at a drug store, the package would include info, complete with warnings etc, and brands would compete by reputation.

That is not the whole cause of dubious research chemicals entering the recreational drugs market.

Easier means of distribution(internet) and financial greed are much stronger factors.
