what does the author typically get per book? at 15% per book and $15 per book he's not filthy rich but its more then 500k

Where are you getting this from?

You are vastly overestimating this guys "wealth", in my opinion.

He has had two books. This one is his third (the reason I know this crap is because when I was being courted by the publishing world back in '07-'08, my agent, and everyone, would always use Tucker Max and Maddox as examples).

His first book deal was a pittance. I can't remember the figure but around 5k.

His 2nd book sold really well. What did he earn? Not sure. I would be really surprised if it was over 400k (which is a pretty insane amount on a book. But for fun, let's give him the benefit of the doubt).

Then he had a movie that took a 6 million dollar bath.

Sure that wasn't his own money, but it ensures that Hollywood will never touch this guy with a ten foot pole in the future.

I think I remember hearing he put some of his own money in so he could retain "control". Or borrowed money. Either way, someone has to come up with 6 million, and isn't happy.

What will he make on this book? Let's be generous and say 500k (an astronomical sum).

Maybe some "speaking fees".

So what, that is like 1million, in a "best case scenario".

How long has he been at it? 12 years?

Homeboy is making 80k a year.

I don't think homeboy has "ensured that he'll never have to work again" by any stretch.

Hell, he is probably filling out a Starbucks application if this book bombs.

I was figuring that between the books and the movie rights and appearances and maybe even some Netflix/Hulu style rights to his movie, he was in around 1.25-1.5, not crazy cash, but more than enough for a guy in his late 30's to live his life on, especially since if he drinks like he says he does won't make it past 65.

That's why I qualified with 'IF he's careful with his money', because I'm not totally sure, but I imagine he's semi-liquid (and I'm sure he gets drinks bought and comped all the time and a some decent swag because of his former 'celebrity' status).

Not to mention, his cross country "publicity tour" for the book. And movie.

Who knows what that ran him?

Or, to be fair, who paid for it?

There is a chance that guy is upside down.

Quote:appearances and maybe even some Netflix/Hulu style rights to his movie, he was in around 1.25-1.5, not crazy cash

I have no idea how "Netflix/Hulu style rights" work, but since the movie bombed heavily, I can't imagine those being much.

Again, it is not "1.25-1.5" in a lump sum payment, liquid.

He has got taxes.

And this is over a 12 year period.

It all depends on your deal.

For a first time author, 50k is a real decent book deal. Zero backend.

"Stuff White People Like" got 300k. A huge amount.

500k is possible.

1 million is for legit famous people. More than that, and you have to be like a Sarah Palin idiot or something.

So, Tucker got hosed. 7k for his first book that sold 1.6 million was probably all he saw.

The 2nd book, he was probably able to negotiate a really good deal. Maybe 400k. Maybe 500k. Maybe some back end. If he did backend, his up front was certainly less.

He should have self published the 2nd.

Anyway you slice it, for 12 years of work, you aren't talking a lot of coin.

That is the problem with the publishing world. And it is even worse today.

He actually got lucky with his timing.

And don't forget he took that 6 million dollar bath on the movie.

Again, I am totally speculating here. I haven't seen the cats accounts.

For all I know, he has been moving E-tabs and is a millionaire.

Actually, scratch that, I would know if he was moving a lot of Beans.

If anyone is knows his financials better, I am all ears.

Making money ain't easy.

Neither is pimping.

I used to read his stuff way back before the books and I think his family had some restaurants in FL that were making some cheese. Could be way off on that, but seem to recall it. Wouldnt be surprised if he made a little coin doing appearance fees here and there. Hell, Snooki gets 20k so show up somewhere. But after agents, taxes, etc that can dwindle. The article did say he's living in Austin now, which is pretty cheap. Not like he's paying 20k a month for a house in the Hollywood Hills. I'd bet he's got a comfy little nest egg stashed away, but not enough to retire and live off the interest happily ever after.

G: How about his short-run MTV show?

Quote:7k for his first book that sold 1.6 million was probably all he saw.

Well he met the advance so I'm sure he's getting nice royalties from that.

If you look at Tucker's page, he isn't selling any products on his own besides a $5 shot glass. He's going through middleman (book publishers) which take a big chunk of the proceeds. In other words, he has chosen celebrity over money. It is telling than in his choice, which has led to banging hundreds of women, he is unhappy and seeing a shrink. That tells me that money should be sought out first. I listen to rap... I already suspected this.

What I'm surprised most is his low production. What was he doing all those years to only write 2 books? I have no doubt that he has been approached numerous times by businessmen with potential ideas. It looks like he's leaving a lot of opportunity on the table. I'm not saying he should have cashed out, but he didn't keep himself busy at the height of his fame, which probably won't be topped.

Yeah, his father does own a restaurant in Boca Raton.

No one is saying the kid didn't come from money. I am sure his dad fitted the law school bill.

Comparing him to Snooki on the appearance fees is a poor comparison.

I just checked. Snooki has 4 million + twitter followers.

Tucker has 200,000.

Snooki is a household name.

Outside of the flag football/fantasy football crowd, no one even knows who Tucker is.

I guarantee none of my friends have even heard of the guy.

The only reason I know of the guy is because of my stint with the publishing world.

As far as the "nest egg", maybe.

When have you heard about the guy taking a trip to London? Paris? Estonia?

Granted, the cat is a typical "stay at home" American jack*ss, but I have never read one thing about guy that even suggests he has 2 nickels to rub together.

Ever heard of him buying a house? A car? Investing in a biz?

Sure he might be some incredibly frugal guy.

But bottom line, Tucker Max, Inc. is negative 4-5 million dollars.

I know nothing of his MTV show.

I do know how those MTV shows pay very little to reality stars. Even less to writers when they start out.

To keep with the Jersey shore theme, I think those people were paid like 5-8k per episode, at most, for the first season.

Quote:Well he met the advance so I'm sure he's getting nice royalties from that.

You don't get backend on a first book deal. Not as an unknown author.

Quote:What I'm surprised most is his low production.

Yeah, that movie killed a lot of those years.

And again, he caught a brick.

I have a friend like Tucker Max.

My friend is his own worst enemy.

A narcissist like Max (and my friend) have the mentality of a six-year old.

Max would be really hard to work with, and also really easy to manipulate.

Guys missed my point when I said Max was beta. He is.

He has no identity. He has no sense of self. His existence is dependent upon outside validation.

He sought validation through the numbers game. That didn't make him happy, so now he's seeking validation by looking for The One.

It's not enough for him to simply exist. He can't just say, "I am."

Then again, neither can most other guys.

I see what you're saying but I don't think the word for that is "beta." The alpha/beta dichotomy is really about how desirable you are to the opposite sex. Being self-actualized and secure in your identity is certainly something that's associated with alphaness but it's not an essential characteristic--you can still fuck lots of hot girls without it. This is the same reason why I think it's insane to say that someone like Obama isn't alpha. Regardless of what you think of his character I don't think you could argue that there is a practically unlimited number of hot girls who would gladly fuck him. Being President of the United States pretty much automatically makes you alpha.

I don't really understand the hate towards Tucker Max. In my opinion, he's the ONLY GUY I'VE SEEN who actually picks up hot (like actual 9 and 10) chicks on his behavior alone and has actual ample proof of it online. Who else has that? David Deangelo (we know that one), Tyler Durden? Anybody at RSD (NO!). Jeffy's Chessclub is like a 6. I don't even count Mystery. That guy had more social status going than Tucker.

Isn't Tucker what most people in the "community" aspire to be? Guys with no money that get laid by behavior? It's funny that he gets so much shit. He's a smart dude too, and I think his writing is actually pretty damn good.

And I'm sure he's got at least a couple millie lying around.

As far as pickup is concerned, Tucker is alpha. Any argument against that doesn't hold up in my view. Validation? Sounds like RSD jargon. By that definition, a virgin buddhist monk could be alpha, but not a player. Perhaps in a different context that would be more alpha. Psychopathology can lead to being more alpha even in political leaders. It's funny how people try to use self development principles in the context of game, and it often doesn't really work.

I also think the article itself is well written.

At the end of the game, you are still just the smartest retard.

No.

Maybe the "gay community". I don't know what this "community" is you speak of.

The "flag football community"? The "fantasy football community"?

The "middle america college community"?

The "average guy with cargo shorts from a land locked state community"?

I don't get it.

I don't know many people who aspire to shit themselves and then all over a hotel lobby.

His stories were extremely entertaining. I could see him using this "finding god" stunt as the theme of his next book.

Maybe the partying and the alcohol got to him. Guys sometimes say that they are sick of chasing girls but what they are really sick of is the late nights, the hangovers, the wasted time and money, the lack of sleep, etc.

Girls didn't wear him out. Partying did.

Thats why I'm all Day Game.

I'm even transitioning into more day dates and day bangs. I have girls come over around 10am on a Saturday or Sunday morning. By 1pm we are fucked, fed and ready to take a nap.

My friends are getting ready to go out at 9pm and I'm getting ready for bed. I tell them, "I already banged today", I'm gonna relax and read Roosh"

Why wait til midnight to do what can be done at noon?

Tucker had an online publishing company that was going to "change the world".

It is now defunct.

Here is an article talking about how he barely paid people:

http://gawker.com/5036064/tucker-max-businessman

His message board shut down:

http://tuckermaxlies.blogspot.com/2009/1...board.html

He tried some hairbrained Internet Poker thing, shut down:

http://www.hollywoodinterrupted.com/2006...ournament/

These things all cost money.

I still haven't seen much evidence from people saying "he has a few millie lying around yo! Homeboys got a fat nest egg. He will never have to work a day for the rest of his life!"

Thoughts?

Looks like G may be right that he didn't make that much off his book:

Quote:Problem was, Tucker couldn't really get out of the contract and my firm has (and still is) receiving money from IHTSBIH. To clarify, he's not making that much per book. That's pretty standard of ANY FIRST TIME UNKNOWN AUTHOR. They make their money on the 2nd book and so on. I won't say how much he's making, but it's less than 1/2 of the .80 cents per copy that is being claimed in these forums.

Also, he never got anything remotely approaching 300,000 for his 2nd book. You might as well have told everybody that you could throw a football over them there mountains. His book, while MODESTLY successful, had nowhere near the amount of sales to warrant even close to 100K let alone 300K.

http://tuckermaxlies.blogspot.com/2009/1...-sake.html

This seems to be a hater blog so it has to be taken with a grain of salt. Also, his media company (Rudius) did not succeed.

My friends are getting ready to go out at 9pm and I'm getting ready for bed. I tell them, "I already banged today", I'm gonna relax and read Roosh"

Why wait til midnight to do what can be done at noon?

Would like to see a write up on this also.

RE: Tucker Max retires, finds Jesus
Tucker Max lies like a motherfucker. A deceptive, sneaky little rat. (Like him lying about his height being 6'1'' when he's actually 5'9''.) He was an ordinary guy who got lucky and became slightly famous. He had a short run.

Girls didn't wear him out. Partying did.

This is the key. Dudes who have runs like that start thinking that getting pussy equals heavy nights, drugs and whatever other pattern they've gotten stuck in.

Interesting. Makes me think theres at least two archetype models for players. The Max model, never grows up eternal party boy who burns out, and the Roosh model, the ever evolving mature man who constantly changes as the game does and stays with it for the long run.

RE: Tucker Max retires, finds Jesus
I like to think the flavor of game I play is sustainable. I keep myself busy with hobbies and work, I exercise, I read, I eat healthy, and I drink moderately without getting drunk. While my needs may gradually change, I don't see myself waking up one day to denounce a lifestyle that I see as pretty balanced.

This seems to be a hater blog so it has to be taken with a grain of salt. Also, his media company (Rudius) did not succeed.

Yeah, this is basically what I was saying.
