Alright guys, I have a problem that I could use your help and advice with.
I'll try to explain my situation without boring you to death with my entire life story.
Basically, it's an issue with anxiety. Or at least I think.
Ever since freshman year of high school, I think I've had anxiety issues. It was mainly with public speaking. I had to give a speech in one of my classes, and I just couldn't do it. I eventually had to pussy bitch my way out by doing it in front of the teacher after classes. I seemed to get a lot better during junior year when one of my classes was a legitimate speech class. I got a lot better. Senior year, some shit happened that's a story in itself that basically made me a bit paranoid of what people are saying about me, and also made me generally nervous when I'm at big social events.
Now that it's two or three years later and I'm in college, things have seemed to change. I've been improving myself in many ways, but one thing that has stuck with me is my ongoing anxiety. Public speaking is still somewhat of an issue, although when I'm up there and speaking I usually do very well. But big social situations that shouldn't probably worry me do.
See, it's not so much the "moment" of whatever I'm nervous about that sucks, it's really just the worrying leading up to it. Almost 100% of the time, for whatever speech or social event that I get nervous about, you could ask anyone that was there, and they'd say that I seemed fine, calm and normal. But leading up to it is what gets me.
And I get nervous over literally
the stupidest shit. For example, today I had a meeting at my store for part-timers. Just a simple fucking meeting. I sit there and listen to my manager talk for about an hour about store improvements and shit. Chill, right? Nothing crazy about that. Well about an hour or two before it, I start worrying about it.
Who all is going to be there? Will any unwanted attention be shined on me? Will something embarrassing happen?
I shouldn't be worrying about that pussy shit. I end up going to the meeting with sweat stains on my shirt, because of the worrying leading up to it. But during the actual meeting itself, I was fine. Normal, calm conversations with my co-workers.
So why is this a problem?
My two main problems that I have with my anxiety, or whatever you want to call it, is:
1.) The stupid, unnecessary worrying. It happens leading up to things. Sometimes hours before something. Sometimes even days. Stupid. And sometimes, even in classes, just sitting there I'll get nervous.
What if something crazy happens that embarrasses me? What if, what if. Pathetic. That shouldn't be happening.
2.) (and this is the main reason)
The fucking sweat stains. I get awful, visible sweat stains in the pit area of my shirts whenever I'm worrying about something. So then when I'm at the event of whatever it was that I was worrying about, I may be calm, but my shirt says otherwise. This is a real confidence breaker in itself, and bothers me to no fucking end.
I could live with problem #1, I honestly could. But problem #2 is what pisses me off and makes me so uncomfortable. Any man that's been to a social event or just in any social situation having visible sweat stains knows what I'm talking about. I'm sure we've all been there.
Oh, and I've tried. I've tried to stop the stains. Ever since I started college I've noticed I have a problem with this, and since then I have tried everything. I've tried every anti-antiperspirant under the sun. I eat right. I've trimmed my armpit hairs. I've made every minuscule change to my day-to-day routine to avoid these stains. In fact, a couple months ago I came to the conclusion myself that antiperspirants are useless, only make sweating worse, and cause permanent white stains in shirts. I found
this article by Roosh and started only using baking soda, and a couple weeks ago I found
this Return of Kings article and started scrubbing my pits in the shower with a natural loofah.
And admittedly, having used the loofah trick for the past few days now, I can conclude that it does actually help. Before the loofah, in normal situations my pits would be somewhat wet and in high-tense, nervous situations they would be rivers; now that I use the loofah, in normal situations they're dry and in high-tense situations they're not
as wet, but still wet enough to make ugly visible stains.
That's actually why today was my breaking point. When I found that RoK article on loofah scrubbing, I thought that it was the answer to my prayers; a solution after my years of searching for what to do. But it wasn't enough to help my stain problem completely. For the first few days, I had dry pits. It was great. But today, being in a nervous situation, the stains still showed.
I've done everything I can. I realize now that my anxiety, or whatever it is, is my problem. It is the only thing keeping me from living a comfortable day-to-day life, free of worrying about how many people can see my stains, forcing myself to stand with crossed arms so that it's harder to see.
So I need a solution.
I don't want to see a doctor, because I assume all that will happen as a result will be a prescription of Xanax or something, giving only short-term relief and the risk of a high reliance, and even an addiction.
I'm not interested in marijuana or any illegal drugs.
I will say that I'm highly considering kratom. I found
this article on it a month or two ago and went back today to read it again. Seems like a good product, but I'm concerned with how much it costs, and how it is only a short-term solution. (Maybe short-term solutions aren't all that bad though, I don't know.) Anyone know of any good slow strains of kratom?
Also, can you pass a drug test having used kratom? (I know it's illegal in some states, so that raises a red flag. Just thought I'd make sure before using it.)
Anyway, that's about it. I just had to get all that off my chest, and I desperately need some advice on this. I've been avoiding this problem in my life for years now, but having spent the last couple years devoting myself to self-improvement (and doing very well), I realize that my anxiety is what is causing two of my biggest problems that I need to get rid of. It's time for me to be a big boy and kill this problem. Because once I do, life will be so much more enjoyable for various reasons, most notably my confidence. My anxiety is getting in the way of me being a bigger and better man than I otherwise could be, and that bothers me so much.
Thanks.
