I was searching for some brazilian funk music at Youtube and i saw some videos of funk parties (mainly in Rio is guess) Seems to me only locals know about these parties and the crowd seems very mixed...Anyone ever been to such a party? Back in 2006 a guy told me they have this parties in the favelas so that would be bit dangerous for a gringo looking guy like myself i guess....If somebody has some info about the safety issues and the chances of hooking up..please help me out

I wish i could add some youtube videos of those parties but that's not possible until i have 10 posts on this username.

In 2006 i went to different places in Rio. I remember a club named Nuth. That club still exists? I went there with 2 friends and we are def. not ugly but this evening i got the feeling i was invisible or something. The girls never looked.....such a strange experience. Baronetti, Melt, Lapa etcetc seemed a lot better for us.

Yeah. I've been to a favela baile funke party in Rio. They are definitely not the place where you go to swoop locals. Every chick in that favela belongs to somebody. The local dudes, on the other hand, feel free to go after any gringa they might see. You can dance with the local chicks, but don't expect to take anything home with you. Just go to a party if you want to see what it's like. Hostels arrange these type of outings, or you could go with a trusted and respected local.

Yup. I've been to Nuth in the Barra de Tijuca neighborhood. Great atmosphere and club music for partying, though the chicks were stuck up. They weren't too different from what you'd find in Leblon. I went there with some locals (a few chicks and a couple of dudes) but I still hollered at any chick I found worthy. Even though me and my crew were popping bottles, I wasn't getting much response. I didn't check out Nuth during my subsequent trips to Rio, but I think it's still around.

I'm in Rio right now. We had the option of going to a funk party tonight but decided to just stay and go out in Ipanema. I went to Nuth last Monday for flashback mondays, it was atrocious. No girl there under the age of 40. But I think that was just that night.

Boox has insane quality girls. Could not get into Boox, but then again neither could some solid 9s and 10s so I don't feel that bad. Baronneti had some hotties mixed in. They are right next to each other.

just don't go out only in the trinity Ipanema/Leblon/Barra. Celebrity attitude all the way,It gets annoying and can be a waste of $$. If you have time try to explore some alternative/chilled spots.Amour Fou is a Rio Local and has lots of info about the Carioca night scene.

I went to this tiny Samba bar called "Bip Bip" in Copacabana ,and kissed a very cute girl there last time I was in Rio.I spent like 5 Reais to drink a beer,the crowd there just stays in the street in front of the Bar, listening to samba music and having a good time.That's Rio to me, I'm full of stuck bitches in "posh" venues here in SP...don't need to chase them in Rio..hehe

Bip Bip is great! Good place for cheap dates too, especially with girls that aren't from Rio and want to listen to Brazilian music.

I did make it out to Lapa a few nights. One night I went to some forro club and got instructions from a very cute 20yo from Floripa who I then kissed, which was great. Another night was that Friday street party which was pretty awesome.

I really like Brazil, wish I had more time. I'd like to explore a lot more of it.

Yeah Casanova, i can imagine those favela parties is not likely to pull a local if you want to stay alive....but i got the feeling the parties i saw on youtube are also outside the favelas. Funk has become so popular...also for the mayority outside the favelas. Search with the youtube browser for "BAILE DA FURACÃO 2000 - ITA SHOW " and give your verdict if this is still in the favelas.

I went to a Brazilian funk party in Porto Alegre. The quality of women was poor yet even the ugly girls danced in a way that made my head spin.

The dudes were kinda hostile by Brazilian standards if you started talking with a girl they were "with."

My feeling is that the girls were absolutely not interested in meeting some educated, well traveled foreigner. They wanted thugs.

In the 35X I've gone out in Brazil, I probably had the worst luck at the funk party.

That's pretty funny. I've found many of the most dangerous "thugs" to be the well-educated Corporate Thugs and the Political Thugs. That aside, does it enhance one's chances if the traveled foreigner is somewhat culturally integrated (language, style, etc.)?

I don't disagree that the Political thugs are more dangerous. I'm just saying I don't have a tattoo on my face and these girls were into that type of thing. BTW - the number of neck tattoos in Porto Alegre is off the charts.

I think I was somewhat culturally integrated into mainstream Brazilian culture- was with two Brazilian friends, speaking Portuguese. The funk party was a different ball of wax and I wasn't getting any love.

And you can get hurt trying to rub up against the wrong dude's bitch.

I was wondering what was up with that club next to Baronnete, it looked real nice. I had 2 make outs in one night at Baronnete, but never ended up taking either home or even getting their numbers. There are definitely some cute girls that go through that place, but even Baronnete can be a pain in the ass to get in to and pretty expensive. The first time I went we stood there for almost an hour to get in. Another time we went they just straight told us we weren't getting in cause it was too packed, and I was with cute girls both times.

Back on the thread subject. I think it would be cool to check out a funk party. A girl in Sao Paulo invited me. I asked her if it was dangerous for a gringo and she told me it depends on the one you go to, but assured me she knew of some she could take me to. I never ended up taking her up on the offer, though my friends both told me it could definitely be dangerous. I'm sure the ones the hostels do are fairly safe, but I'm also pretty sure they aren't the funk parties I'd want to go to.

That holland version of michel telo have to be in some small village inland....somewhere far from the big cities. There are a lot of pretty girls here, but you have to know where to go. I live in a small city and the local nightlife offers already more then the low quality shown here. I always go to the Big cities in holland filled with female students to find some real quality.

Oh my, it is finally happening, Brazil is exporting its cultural trash...

I don't do drugs nor pros, and all the people I know that've been to Holland only talk about that. I guess there has to me more than this. You Dutch guys could write more about your girls... are they worth travelling there for?
