Thanks for the replies man really helped me shaped up my views of heading to Australia.

I'm not so bothered by the white girls' reaction towards Asian guys, the attraction isn't mutual. While I appreciate having a white chick once in awhile, my bread and butter are still Asian girls.

I have also noticed European tourists tend to be alot more receptive when I game them here in Singapore as compared to Australians.

Do you guys have any tips on getting into the social circle of the Aussie Asians? Where are some places they like to hang out? I'm really not worried about the FOBs, I've enough experience with them elsewhere to adapt pretty quickly to an Australian setting.

Might be looking to pay Aussie a visit soon to check out the city before moving there soon so would be good to meet up. Again, if you guys are coming down to Singapore, it would be cool to meet for a few drinks too.

There will be an Asian club at Melbourne uni (ASEAN?) and LOTS of Asians (both local and FOB) in your course so shouldn't be hard to make friends. I don't know exactly what Melbourne's ethnically Asian population is these days but it wouldn't surprise me if it's up around the 25% mark.
Anyway, remember that during the first few weeks of uni everyone will be in the same boat as you i.e. looking to make friends, so make sure you put yourself out there.

I'm no expert on where Asian's hang out but I'll provide what info I can...

- CBD: Tonnes and tonnes of apartments in Melbourne CBD and most of them are occupied by Asians as Aussie's don't want to live in high rise apartments. So there are always tonnes of Asians around the city, however these will mostly be FOB's. City is generally where its at for bars and clubs as well, more below on that.

Box Hill: Basically little China. Suburb is almost completely Chinese and most signs are in Mandarin and English. Great place to go for authentic Chinese food but not for bars/clubs.

Glen Waverley: Another little China but smaller and more affluent. Has the best public school in the state which is why it's so popular with Chinese immigrants. Consequently real estate prices have gone through the roof. Mostly a family area with a medium sized mall plus good strip of restaurants of every Asian kind. Again somewhere to go for food, not to go out.

Springvale: Little Vietnam. Like Box Hill this suburb has been almost completely overrun. Poorer than both Box Hill and Glen Waverley but gaining in affluence it's got more Vietnamese bakeries, dentists and doctors than you can poke a stick at. As above, somewhere to go for food not to go out.


For going out the CBD is your best and pretty much only bet for going out to find Asians. I've been "Asian clubbing" with friends a couple of times so I know a few spots but the list below is by no means exhaustive.

Spice Market: Cool club that plays whatever is polling well on the club hit charts and requires you to be pretty dressed up to get in. Hipsters aren't getting in here. It's generally very ethnic with Asians of all kinds including South Asians. The club is 75% dance floor so it's good for dance floor game. The only down side is that is closes at 2am after which time you're most likely not getting in anywhere else.

Red Love: Small Asian club that plays RnB. The music is pretty average early in the night so I like to hit this one a bit latter.

Sorry Grandma: Very upmarket Asian club that charges $20 cover. I am not a fan of this place as it's full of hard core Asian's who don't seem to want anything to do with a white guy and doesn't have much of a dance floor. The girls here are hot though.

Mate, so much for my comments on racism in my previous, way to give the kid some hope. I remember you wrote the same thing in the Aussies in Asia thread, but I never got around to questioning its veracity, and for that matter how much of a representation of white Aussie girls that is, especially of the under-30 set. Personally, I've never found it to be a blatant disqualifier, although it wouldn't be too far from the realm of belief to rule out race as a sexual preference. I've had at least two friends whose judgements on female preferences I can take with some confidence due to their work tell me that "most" white Australians would be "open to the idea".
Conversely, I've never found evidence for white Aussies' interest in me to stem from "yellow fever" -- having a specific thing for Asian dudes.
I myself am above average Australian male height, and therefore tall for an Asian, have above average looks and move in white social circles, so the odds are skewed in my favour (factors which didn't come about easily). I don't have very archetypal Asian looks due to an almost lifelong Western diet.
Having said all that, I've had cause to wonder if there's some truth in Adrenaline's line of thought, even to this day, if at least due to bad game. Beyond that, I imagine Adrenaline is as plugged in into white Australian society as I am, so you're not simply pulling the idea out of your arse of Asian men being sexually invisible to white Australians? Whereabouts in Australia are you in and what race are you?

Related anecdote: At the airport a few months back, I bumped into an acquaintance I worked with at the snow. She visibly warmed to me upon finding out that I was born in Singapore because her boyfriend is from there. Ironically, I had a thing for her back when I had no game. She's attractive (a high 7) and is socially 'in' -- went to Ormond College -- if you wondered where that'd place her as a candidate for interracial dating. Although she's studying a very Asian-heavy course (Medicine) so she'd be a bit more open to it, and probably more accepting of the betatude of Asian dudes.

Maybe this is an exception -- especially involving a Singaporean, although likelier than a less-Westernised dude from China -- but it does happen.

Apart from the venues that Roardog has written about above, really you're not going to find a separate social vacuum of "Aussie Asians". Asians have been in Australia for 170 years, we've been amongst the most integrated races in the country. This is especially so of the lower and upper classes, or they may dominate social circles by sheer numbers especially in certain professions e.g. Medicine.
Any clannishness will be along ethnic lines rather than skin colour, i.e. Vietnamese, Chinese, Indonesian etc. just as with any other. Auto-segregating socially along regional lines or skin colour -- Wogs or Asians -- doesn't happen as much as you think.
So Asian Australians really frequent much the same venues -- beaches, events, restaurants, clubs etc. -- as their white counterparts, apart from the suburbs and Asian nights that Roardog said. Even then you'll find white Aussies frequenting those places, but it's a big SWPL to eat at dumpling restaurants dude.
Having said that, there are certain sports, workplaces and such that I've been involved in, where Asian-Australians happen to be disproportionately represented, and would be more natural to just fit in there. I'm not talking about DOTA competitions either.

Of course, exceptions do occur, especially owing to demographic and formative factors -- where you grew up and went to school. However, these people are culturally Australian, and for the most part don't have some sort of AzN PrYDE complex. Even though I wrote this partly with the idea that I think it's pointless for yet another Asian to come to Australia and hang out with other Asians and not get a feel for Australia itself, I've said all the above with the best accuracy. Ultimately whoever you socialise with is your choice.

The Asian Australia community is somewhat divided along two lines, and they don't seem to be overly ethnic.

Chinese Australians, especially the second or third generation, have mostly come from means being Singaporean, Hong Kong, Malaysian, Indonesian etc. and they integrated into mainstream Australian society like the Italians or Greeks did.

Vietnamese and to a lesser extent Laos and Cambodians are very much in that 'Woggish' circle. And it's kind of indicative of a wider problem that the Lebanese and other middle easterners face and Africans face. These second gen kids, many of whom grow up in housing commission are culturally more Australian than their parents' culture but at the same time have a lot of animosity in their ranks due to not being fully accepted in either parcel.

Second Gen Chinese Australians lived quiet wealthy lives and went to good schools. I theorised that it's because their parents grew up in a plural population, e.g. they existed as Chinese in Malaysia, or they grew up in Modern Singapore as Hakkas etc. from a sociological standpoint that would be a fascinating study

Anyway- that's a just side note. Probably not relevant to this thread.

I disagree with Adrenaline. There are plenty of white Aussie girls who like Asian guys, and recently I've noticed a significant increase in this kind of pairing. Usually it's the hipsters and university educated ones, but also lots from the woggy immigrant areas like the Western suburbs of Melbourne. I'm a 5'7" Asian Australian who's dated mostly white girls my whole life (I'm 33 now), and my current LTR is a pale glow in the dark white girl 10 years younger. White girls eye-fuck me up and down all the time, especially when I'm out and about with my girlfriend.

The problem Asian guys have with white Aussie girls is the same problem white guys here have: it is an uphill battle to find one that's not fat and crazy. If you're OK with banging the mediocre ones we've talked about endlessly on this site, then it's party time down under. If you want yourself a nice slender non-tattooed non-feminist white girl, join the queue with all other races of men, and make sure your Game and values are on point.

European girls in Australia are more open to dating an educated interesting Asian guy. I've really enjoyed the European girls I've dated, they are more pleasant and generally don't play dumb games.

Zerdame, if there's any problem you may have as an Asian FOB, it will be your Singaporean accent (if you have one). It is hard for the girls here to take you seriously as a sexy man if you talk like that. Other than that, if you're interesting, are muscular and athletic and well-dressed, you will never find your race to be an issue. If you look like a typical skinny weak FOB Asian guy, you will fail with girls of all races not just white.

If you like attractive Asian FOBs, take up Latin dancing. The pickings are plentiful in that scene, for some reason.

@Strikeback: Thankfully, I have a gift of languages and after growing up largely immersed in Western culture, I like to believe I don't or can control whatever accent I may have. In fact, I'm doing a double major in comms and creative writing down at U Melbourne so English is pretty much on the higher end of my capabilities. I lose the accent when I speak to foreigners and even when speaking Singlish with Singaporeans, I've been told that I sound like an American. (Hey, sorry I went to an American international school while living in Japan)

I think the best thing about being a westernized Asian is how easy it is to beat out all the other beta weak Asians with no game. I experienced it in Japan and loved every moment of stealing the spotlight from Japanese men sometimes because they don't even try or have zero game that the only thing they do is use their wealth to somehow impress girls. Its funny getting them to pay for drinks the whole night and go home with the girl laughing at him the whole way back with said girl in tow. I'm stoked for Australia.

Any form of dancing is just not really my thing. I would do it if asked to perform for an event but voluntarily not so much. I never understood the Latin dancing thing with Asians as well, maybe its supposed to be one of the 'classier' aspects of western culture they wish to emulate? Its sorta like golfing as well. I was at the Victoria St (Richmond) Chinese New Year celebrations on Sunday and thinking of this thread I decided to count the number of mixed race couples I saw and the number with an asian guy and white girl.
In the 2 hours I was there i spotted 20 mixed race couples in total, 15 with white male & asian girl and 5 with white girl & asian male. It was more white girl Asian guy couples than I expected to see. Not all the Asian guys were white aussie height either, although the only Asian dude with a decent looking white girl was 5'10".

Spot on, although I wouldn't even give them a 6, I say a solid 4? But then again, sunburned white chicks isn't exactly my idea of pretty any day.

Am heading out to Melbourne for the Easter weekend. The main focus is to look up Melbourne as this seems to be THE city in Australia to many locals and international tourists. Partying and gaming would be priority.

The comments on this thread don't look promising for game as does most other places in Australia. Some comments from you would be appreciated. Things I gleaned:

1. Nightgame is very competitive
2. Daygame is much better
3. Melbourne is a very cliquey city => Gaming locals is probably going to be much more difficult

So, I am thinking focussing on backpackers would be more efficient given the limited time I have. I am planning on staying at a backpackers myself. Is there any particular backpacker game that might be successful in Melbourne? In the past, I have had problems connecting with other backpackers and given the time constraint of 4 days, I got to hit the ground running. Some tips would be great.

A small, updated list of the easiest places in Melbourne for night game and daygame would be helpful. For daygame, there is mention of the lone backpacker. Some tips on the method and success rate of approaching in this situation based on Asian or European backpacker demographics will be helpful.

A brief background is I would be rolling with 2 chinese guys who are ok, but with minimal game and me being more latino looking. None of us is Aussie. I am not very good in the approaches myself but have tried it. Language would not be a problem.

What would you guys think would be a good strategy for game in this situation?

For want of sounding too critical, you're going to have a bit of an uphill struggle coming in for a weekend. Not that one can't pull over a weekend, but you've correctly identified that Melbourne is particularly tricky to game on the fly.

That would probably be your best ROI, but we have a huge enough "backpacker community" that they are social circles unto themselves. Staying at a hostel would help insert you into them obviously. You'll probably be hanging at St. Kilda as the majority of them are located there. I can't comment on "Melbourne-specific backpacker game" as I'm a local, but if you do well with French, Brits, Japanese, Koreans and Germans, you should clean up in that aspect.

Indeed, for a city that sees relatively slow infrastructural change, the nightlife has undergone several of them. There's definitely a bit of a difference between a list of easiest venues to pull and highest quality; I'm assuming you're after the former owing to your time frame.
I'm a bit reluctant to post a more updated list partly for obvious reasons, also partly because the venues here are generally pretty scene-specific. For example, I hated Spice Market, but I know dudes that have revelled in it and done well thanks to its nouveau-riche feel and abundance of Asians and Latinas. Mendozas is also crawling with FOB Latinas and was described by a friend of mine as "a meat market for South American birds looking to snag sponsorship". If you're an Aussie citizen that can speak Spanish or Portuguese, you'll kill it there.

Apart from that, I'd be happy to PM you such a list. Bear in mind that I haven't been an avid nightgamer lately. Avoid Crown at all costs (I can elaborate more if you like — I bartend there ).

For their sake, I hope your mates are guys are somewhat jacked, otherwise get them into a gym and put heaps of steak into their diets stat. The only Chinese dudes I've ever seen pull in a non-FOB venue have been local ones (apart from at language exchanges). If they don't have accents and they're somewhat plugged into Aussie culture, that'll help too. They should still do OK with European backpackers if that's their thing. Having a darker-skinned wing like yourself would help massively for both parties.

Indeed, for a city that sees relatively slow infrastructural change, the nightlife has undergone several of them. There's definitely a bit of a difference between a list of easiest venues to pull and highest quality; I'm assuming you're after the former owing to your time frame.
I'm a bit reluctant to post a more updated list partly for obvious reasons, also partly because the venues here are generally pretty scene-specific. For example, I hated Spice Market, but I know dudes that have revelled in it and done well thanks to its nouveau-riche feel and abundance of Asians and Latinas. Mendozas is also crawling with FOB Latinas and was described by a friend of mine as "a meat market for South American birds looking to snag sponsorship". If you're an Aussie citizen that can speak Spanish or Portuguese, you'll kill it there.

Apart from that, I'd be happy to PM you such a list. Bear in mind that I haven't been an avid nightgamer lately. Avoid Crown at all costs (I can elaborate more if you like — I bartend there ).

Can you also describe any noticeable differences in gaming Brits vs French vs Germans? I am assuming ONSs are tougher with the Koreans and Japs. So far, I have only been successful with solo backpackers with no social circles or those with 4 or less people. I was querying if there are any situations where backpackers tend to hang out alone or where the girls are more comfortable being approached. Not sure if you have been inside a backpackers but girls are more wary/less prone to convo in the common areas like kitchens in the backpackers. Thats why I was thinking other backpackers bars, although mine doesnt have one. I am assuming clubs would be a complete waste of time for picking up.

What would be the situation in the South American venues if one is not Aussie and does not speak the language?

Good points man. Had fun in our meetup last time and learnt tons. Melbourne is going to be harder but the thing about game is, you never know when you are going to get lucky so you gotta stay in that gaming mode all the time! Staying downtown so logistics should be fine. The previous poster is on point when he said even backpackers have social circle so getting into a cool group or making a group of my own is the key. The latter means targeting lone/new backpackers haha. It seems being aware of surroundings and acting fast is important.

Also, some ideas about gaming while on tours organized by hostels would be appreciated. Is that really helpful and how do you maintain the vibe for the night after the tour to transition to the bang? I realize that not that many backpackers go on those organized tours (bec of the cost?) so it might be better to make plans at the outset once I meet some backpacker chicks who are interested to hang out. And yes, it has to be fun and exciting, i got to bring the energy level up for the whole group especially when the friends are pretty reserved.

1.) I just looked it up. Dang boy, you could be doing much better logistics wise. Apart from the clubs on King St (never been, but another Melbourne RVFer used to go to Rats), there's really not much around your hostel. You may have been better off choosing one of the hostels in the CBD's north. A friend of mine ran a crackin' pub crawl out of Melbourne Metro YHA, which stopped by one of the venues that I'll PM you, I came across a handful of smoking hot Germans and Zimbabweans there.
I also approached a Swedish 8 who was staying at Discovery.

2.) Those times that I have done it, usually I'd known someone from there (met them travelling elsewhere, or in that city itself, etc.) and they let us in to hang out. I've hung out at hostel bars that I wasn't staying at too, yeah, assuming mine was shit. Extrapolating that to Melbourne, I can't say if different 'rules' apply so to speak.

1.) Brits: in between the French and Germans WRT to wearing their heart on their sleeve, need more alcohol to open up (not in the same way as the Scandinavians). Easier to gel with in a way as you can understand each others' cultural references a bit more. Not a huge amount of difference in sluttiness and ease between all three.
What information (excluding all the negative stuff) you may have read on the forum about those three nationalities will be by and large true for Melbourne.
2.) Koreans/Japanese: Don't have either flag, don't remember gaming either. I do recall that those nationalities were in a much more receptive mood than usual at a language exchange that I used to go to occasionally.
While we're on that topic, those sorts of events, as was admitted to me when I was in Europe and South America, are openly known to be hookuppy/meat-markety sort of atmospheres. The one in Melbourne is no less so. Does it mean that chicks there accordingly on their guard? Not much more so; I guess it's the plausible deniability of it. Someone with a modicum of game who isn't too averse to souped-up social settings can do well here. Hopefully you're around on Wednesday or Monday, I'll include the details when I reply to your PM.
3.) Recalling what had been the case in my travels, outside of hostels, they'd been around museums, trails, rock climbing (SEA and EE) or other landmarks. It's hard to compare European cities to here given how much more compact they are in comparison.

Hope all that helped. If you wanted to know if, from what I gathered from your last two posts, there's any "Melbourne-specific" backpacker game as opposed to "universal backpacker game" , the only 2 examples I could think of are:

1.) The Europeans tend to hang out in less massive obnoxious groups than if they were travelling somewhere on their continent (I'm looking at the Brits and Germans). I've noticed the French still stick together a little bit, and may cockblock a little towards their own, but I didn't encounter any problems at the drumming circle in St. Kilda.

2.) Girls travelling here may have heightened expectations due to the quality of dudes here and their game. Doesn't really mean they'll go for Shane. The Swede I mentioned got with a Sri Lankan at her hostel.

Good suggestions on daygame locations in the city although they will be more difficult unless she is very bored. They always seem to be in a hurry to do something. Also, good point about english language get-togethers, a natural conversation starter.

I am curious to know what is the difference between the Scandinavians and the Brits/French/Germans. There are bound to be quite a few Swedes backpacking. Also, what have your experiences with gaming South American been? Mostly they have been from Brazil and Argentina.

i live in Melbourne so i'm going to chime in here with some tips on nightlife:

Thursdays: Spice Market in the CBD. Always packed (get there around 10pm) and a really diverse crowd as far as ages and nationalities goes. Quite a few Asians here, maybe 40%, with about 40% 'australian' and around 20% international students/backpackers/travellers. I've had alot of luck here. Picked up a colombian student here and we went back to her building around the corner and did it in the communal gym at around 3am. Another time a mate and i picked up two uni students from the country who shared a house in Richmond. We were able to do swaps! I highly recommend this place, it's got a great vibe and it's quite easy to open girls at either of the bars each side of the dancefloor. Ratio pretty good in here and the male competition is terrible. Dress well.

Fridays: Boutique in Prahran (80s/90s music) was THE place to be during the 2000s and now it's back after reopening recently. i haven't been back myself but heard it's pumping again. Get there early (ie 10pm) and if there are more than 2 of you then split off into groups of two or even singles before approaching the club. They won't let big groups of guys in. This place has great music, a free love vibe and let me tell you the ratio is fantastic and the girls are beautiful. It's the sort of place that you'll get your ass squeezed by 3 or 4 girls on the dancefloor during the night. lots and lots of fun (if you can get in!).

Saturdays:
Bond Bar in the CBD: This place is gold. i went there last month with a mate, we arrived about 10.15pm and walked in and were literally the only guys in there. The dancefloor must have had at least 100 girls on it. It was almost too awkward. Of course as the night went on the ratio ended up flipping the other way and by 1am there would have been more guys than girls. Need to hit it hard during the 11pm-1am honeymoon period when the ratio is good and the club is packed. Very difficult to get in here unless you are well dressed and present well. no more than 2-3 guys in the group. it's possible to get talking to girls in the queue and ask to enter with them to ensure you get inside. i've been here a few times and kissed a few girls but no ONS. One of my mates took home an african girl one night. The girls here are good looking and young. the guys are really tall (i'm 185cm and felt small which was unusual). Need to be on your game here.

Other places of note are:
-CQ (saturdays) which is a large club with good ratio and alot of cute girls. i've picked up here a few times.
-Precinct (Richmond) can be very good especially after the football or the night before a public holiday although for some reason i've never picked up there. can be long queues to get in.
-Bar9t4 is a wildcard which is just up the road from Precinct - half the time this place is terrible but the other times it's really on and my success rate here is extremely good. if it's no good just leave and go somewhere else. get's good around 11pm till 2am. alot of drunk girls arrive around midnight onwards.. the guys in here are useless so if there are girls in here chances are you'll be in. Absolutely no competition. it's the sort of place where girls come in groups of 2 or 3 and go to the bar and order shots. you know it's on when that happens.. music can be quite fun here too.
-club23 at crown casino and the albion in south melbourne (the old 'motel') are also worth a mention as options for saturday night.

Just an update on my above post... i went to Spice Market last night (Thursday Night).

it's still the place to go on a Thursday. Around 50% of the girls are asian (chinese, thai, japanese, korean) about half of which are students and half work here, 20% local Australian girls on after work drinks that have kicked on, 10% Australian Students and 20% western tourists/students.

Very high percentage of the girls here are quite receptive to an approach. It has a great layout which makes the dance floor or either of the bars good options for opening. You just have to be careful here if you are gaming multiple girls at once that you do it discretely as Asian girls will watch you and if they see you doing this they'll pretty quickly move on from you (this is normal for any girl, however i find that Asian girls will go out of their way to watch you more closely for this and assess your behaviour).

Last night i kissed a Japanese Girl (8.5), Chinese (7.5) and Korean (7) and got all 3 phone numbers. i've been on whattsapp with all 3 of them today trying to escalate to a bang. so far it looks like i'm seeing the Japanese girl this aftenoon and Chinese girl next thursday night so it's looking promising..
i've also picked up a colombian student, Australian Student and a few other asian girls there in the past. Generally i would say that the Asian girls there are the most receptive, but the other girls are still approachable and much more so than most other places.

I also heard that the Asian Beer Cafe in Melbourne Central is decent on a Thursday so next time i can sneak out on a thursday night i've give that a try before heading over the spice market and will report back on it
