@Filmore- Im glad you got yoursef sorted out in the Phis. None of the locals ever told me to ever go to Manila, but rather Cebu, or Davao, or somewhere N. of Manila. I've learned a lot about the culture over the last few years, even down to cooking some main dishes. Damn near anywhere I will at least have a local family to act as a safety net. Social circles always help. Have you noticed the girls point with their lips? There are millions of pinays in the Middle East, not the same quality as there, but once in awhile you see a stunner.

The Phils hasn't been on my radar, but I'm probably just gonna have to suck up the long flight and get it over with. Its been years since I sat on a tropical island and relaxed.

Dude, seriously? Are you kidding? I'm laughing my ass off because I've been in a number of large provincial cities in the Philippines, and I was one of the ONLY white guys. I asked a number of girls I banged in these places, they said they met few white guys. Even Manila is low on foreigners.

It looks like you're not able to handle the third world yet. Your post is so pathetic. If you can't handle beggars and people staring at you in a super safe country like the Philippines, I suggest you never come to Medellin where I live. People here will shoot you just for crossing an "invisible border" and you might even get raped on the street by some Colombian gay gang. Any foreigner will do well in the philippines, but young white blond guys are still the top of the food chain here. As a latino american, I get confused as half italian and half filipino all the time. That gives me a huge advantage over 95 percent of filipino men. As far as booties go, they have the best in Asia but not at the level of latinas.

The Phil. does have a major upside. You can get TRADES training there very cheaply. There is an auto mechanic course there in a community college which costs about 500 Canadian dollars for the entire YEAR. I was looking into the welding/mechanic/electrician courses for both my wife and I, before we head back to Canada... the total cost for both of us would be around 2400. Living expenses included might come to around 7500 Canadian for the entire year.

In spite of friendly people, Manila is not too pleasing, but you should get out of the city and head to the islands. Seriously, I don't know if my info is out of date, but back in the day, you could get to the Center Point Hotel, get a bus to Batangas Port, board a boat to Mindoro Island, dock at Puerto Galera, and get a jeepney to Sabang.

Sabang isn't the most beautiful beach, but it's a fun place.

Not sure why you would want to get out of Manila.
Best food, best women, all the conveniences you could hope for.

If you are looking for a beach holiday go somewhere that is good at that...
Palawan, Boracay etc.

The main thing about the Philippines is that you need to understand there are no training wheels here. Nothing will be catered to you since their tourist industry isnt exactly booming like Thailand.
The whole "disgust at seeing a 3rd world country thing" that is the premise of this thread seems naive and sheltered.
Probably stick to tourist traps in Thailand if it bothers you.

For those who have been to both, what would you say Cebu City is like compared to Metro Manila, especially around upper class day time stomping grounds like IT Park and Ayala Mall?

I was hoping Cebu City might strike the balance between enough numbers hot girls but at least reasonably pleasant immediate surroundings. (There's no need really to go out to the most poor parts of town as the mall serves as the meeting point for most.)

Cebu is better overall for quality of life and ease of surroundings. The women are hit or miss in my opinion. A lot of guys sing Cebu's praises but I find Cebuanas to be the most obnoxious Filipinas overall.

I'm not sure why exactly because it's not like Cebu is full of outrageous hotties. It's just average compared to just about any middle class orientated city in Manila but it's just in a less dense population. Maybe the breathable air and easy to reach vacation beach spots makes guys rank this higher on the list.

Of course some guys have wonderful experiences there but in my experience the best girls in Cebu tend to be from other places originally.

Cebu is great to base out of and fly out to scuba destinations though. Ease and general cost of living in Cebu is very attractive.

Lots of forum members name Manila a shithole, but I even consider a lesser area such as Ermita or Malate as the first world in comparison to some African cities.
Let’s compare Manila with Kampala, capital of Uganda:
- There are almost no taxis in whole Kampala;
- No Light Rail, MRT and no trolleybuses, just minivans and tricycle taxis;
- Traffic even worse than in Manila as there are no expressways and roads have small capacity;
- Only three or four shopping malls in the whole metropolis, which aren’t designed as a city-inside-the-city like in Manila, but consist of a shitty supermarket, a snack bar and a souvenir shop;
- A hotel with air condition starting at 100$ a night;
- Most cars from the 1990’s and lots of motorbikes on the streets – air pollution much much worse than anywhere in SEA;
- Most products more expensive than in SEA as everything must be imported from Asia or Europe;
- Lots of products or services not available;
- Vaccinations against numerous diseases such as Yellow Fewer as well as Malaria repellents are highly recommended;
- Expensive flight tickets (no cheap getaway to a nearby country), and only stopover flights to a seaside destination in Kenya or Tanzania;
- Idiotic situations happening every day, such as bent cops try to get bribes from you, no water and/or electricity for hours, days, even weeks.

This list is absolutely not exhaustive. Anyone complaining about Manila would experience a Grade A culture shock in most African countries. No wonder there are almost no African data sheets and trip reports on the forum.
