Download QQ International. QQ Messenger is (if I'm not mistaken) the most popular IM software in China, since it also extends to mobile devices, almost everyone has it. It allows you to pipeline Chinese chicks, practice the language, and gather intel on China (since you can join groups).

I've been wanting to write a guide on it, maybe I will when I have time.
