From Cancun to Guatemala it is beyond shitty. I've got central America fatigue.

I will say the last night in went out we found a club in Guatemala City that had some goddamn stunners. But they were almost all paired up.

Yes, it's about like an American city such as St. Louis, Detroit, etc.. There are plenty of foreign tourists here of all ages. If they can do it, you can do it.

Just don't go looking for bad neighborhoods and be extra careful at nighttime. Oh, and avoid arguments as much as possible (ie agree on the cab fare before getting in, don't let guys give you a tour or show you the way somewhere- they want money).

Funnily enough, one day i asked the driver to take me to a chick's neighbourhood to pick her up. When I gave him the address his face dropped and he said "I'm not going there. (He's dominican and from the city)Even the police don't go in there" haha.

When we were driving through he told me to put my phone away and roll the window up.

Seriously though, just be aware of your surroundings you'll be fine.

Seeing all these hot light skinned Dominicans in NYC have me pondering a trip to the DR when I am in South America. Whats the ratio in the DR of black to light skinned girls? Is there parts of the DR with far more light skinned girls then darker girls? Not to sound racist as I have slayed my share of black girls but I certainly prefer lighter skinned women.

Ok, sounds like I can survive. I may get mistaken for a local as I get Brazilian a lot and am conversational in espanol. I plan on going off the beaten path to the barber shop, dembow clubs, clothing stores, and to daytime street fests all solo while drinking. Will I still survive?

Will be in the DR around the 20th of May. I may be asking questions that have already been asked, but this is a really long thread and hard to navigate through. I'm meeting a bunch of friends in Punta Cana the 28th. Where would you guys recommend I spend the other 8 days? I don't mind if there's a beach as I'll be by the beach for most of my month + long trip.

Generally in the areas you would go:
black: 20-25% (more in poor areas)
mixed: 60%
"light skinned/white": 15-20% (maybe less)

I would think you will have no trouble. As long as you don't piss anyone off, or flash super expensive shit. I've been here a year, am white as day, and so far no problems. I haven't played it safe exactly, but then again I don't go looking for trouble. Again, it's like living in Detroit or something. Watch your back and you should be fine. I've been in rough neighborhoods at least 10 times and never had an issue. Yet a white guy was robbed at gunpoint in a pretty good tourist area in Bavaro by a guy on a moto. An old tourist couple from finland was macheted to death over a camera on a beach in broad daylight in don julio a few years back.

You never know. But the same can be said for the US with all the carjackings, home invasions, school shootings, etc...

I think most trouble starts over money. Always realize that if you get a service from someone you will be expected to pay what they think you should pay, unless you agree ahead of time. For example, say you get a taxi. When you arrive the taxi driver wants $7. Maybe you could have paid $4.50. But you didn't negotiate that in advance. He may not want to negoatiate because he knows gringos often pay the higher price. You might give him $6 and walk off. But if you insist on less, you might create an enemy. I think its little shit like this that gets folks into trouble. I don't have hard facts to back that up. But it seems to me the best thing to do is to minimize your enemies. Always make it clear what you are offering in advance, or that you don't want to pay.

I was in puerto plata once. Met a guy who offered to show me directions. I said "okay but I can't pay you". I said it like 5 times. But he kept hanging out with me. At the end he started bitching about baby food. Then he took me to a store in a slightly sketch area and tried to overcharge me (friend owned the place) for some milk. I got so pissed I just walked out of there as fast as I could. He chased me a second and then gave up. If I were in the same situation again I would probably have just given him some money and left to avoid the possibility of trouble. Obviously try to avoid situations like that.

I think the low percentage on light skinned girls in the DR is cause they all come to NYC (prally Miami as well) There's nothing but light skinned Dominicans running around here. I hardly ever see any dark skinned Dominicans or Black folk. Except the guy sharing a room in this apartment. Hes black and plays guitar and singing to these bitches, then two songs later I hear the girl moaning for like 5 mins then that stops I hear giggles, one of the two goes to the rest room I haven't seen which one yet I just hear it. Then I hear moaning again for like 45 minutes. I can't hate his hustle... It seems to work well for him.
