What kind of nicer car would you guys recommend?

I was thinking the 15-25k range but I'm flexible on price if I can get a better value for more and keep it mind it should be some what decent on fuel considering I will be taxing people around in it.

Late-model Toyota Avalon, Ford Flex, Lincoln MKT, Cadillac DTS. All have generous rear accommodations and - in the case of the Flex and MKT - have 3rd rows, rear A/C, and tons of space for passengers.

The best value you could get in your price range on a large near-luxury sedan would probably be the Hyundai Genesis.

Other options in your price range:

If you can stretch your budget into the thirty thousand range, you can probably find a 2011 Hyundai Equus which is proably the best value car in existence (near S-Class level luxury for Toyota-level price). This would be the most impressive, "high-end" livery car you could own without spending $50k or more.

What about something like a used Audi S4 for around 20k?

I would need a 4 door but they look pretty sport for having the 4 door option.

They're just so small inside for driving someone around. Maybe an A6 if you're going for an Audi.

Yeah I agree. I went and looked at one today and didn't realize there were different sizes of cars that have 4 doors. Having never driven many cars and only owned a pick up truck my whole life I didn't know that all 4 door cars aren't built the same.

Is the A4 4 door similarly sized to the s4?

Pretty sure the A4 and S4 share the same platform so the interior dimensions should be very similar.

I don't know much about Uber. Does it need to be a luxury car, or can it just be a normal car that's clean and well maintained?

Teddy, be careful about buying a car just for Uber. I drove a cab part time between corporate gigs a few years ago and have been doing Uber to supplement income this summer and I made more money driving a cab back then. There are so many drivers and Uber has slashed the prices so much in my city that it is barely worth it. I don't believe any of the drivers in my city make more than $2500/mo with this.

If you have other sources of income and just want an excuse to buy another car, it could be worth it, but that money may barely cover your car payments/gas for a month. Take that earnings statement with a grain of salt if you live in a dense high population city such as NYC, SF, or DC where many people don't have cars.

You don't have to have a luxury car for uber but if I'm going to spend the money on a new car I'm going to get something I like. For uber it just has to be 2004 or newer and a 4 door. I have a perfectly capable truck right now it's just older and I've had it for 10+ years. Most of my friends are on their 3rd or 4th car and I'm still driving my high school car.

Yeah I currently have a good job that I like. I just would kind of like a newer car (had the same pick truck since I was 16) and I wouldn't mind making a little side cash on Friday and Saturday nights when I'm not doing anything.

German luxury cars get pricy to maintain outside of warranty, which is part of why you don't see too many of them in livery service (the few you do see are new enough to still be covered by the original warranty). You can find a 2004+ Audi, BMW or Mercedes, but these aren't the most practical cars to rely on for your business purposes. A lot of things can (and do) go wrong with them and the repairs will be very expensive.

The cars I showed you above will offer your a better value while proving easier to keep running.

Jaguar Wrote:(MAHWAH, N.J.) – September 8, 2014 - The Jaguar XE has been revealed to the world at an event held at Earl's Court, London.

A true driver's car, the Jaguar XE redefines the concept of the sports sedan thanks to its advanced lightweight construction, streamlined styling, luxurious interior, and outstanding ride and handling. The XE goes on sale in 2015 in the UK and in 2016 in the U.S. The high-performance S model will be at the top of the line-up.

The Jaguar XE S provides responsiveness and refinement from a supercharged 3.0-liter V6. Generating 340hp and 332 lb-ft of torque, this engine is linked to an eight-speed automatic transmission with paddle shift controls. Accelerating to 0-60 mph in just 4.9 seconds, the XE S has an electronically-limited top speed of 155 mph.

Mercedes-Benz Wrote:The new Mercedes-AMG GT: Driving performance for sports car enthusiasts

AMG racetrack performance combined with superb everyday practicality

Affalterbach. The first Mercedes was a racing car and its most recent successor carries this heritage forward. With the new Mercedes-AMG GT, the Mercedes-AMG sports car brand is moving into a new sports car segment. The GT is the second sports car developed entirely in-house by Mercedes-AMG. Its front mid-engine design with a rear transaxle and use of intelligent aluminium lightweight construction form the basis for a highly dynamic driving experience. Its newly developed AMG 4.0-liter V8 biturbo engine underscores the hallmark of AMG driving performance. The first sports car engine from AMG with internally mounted turbochargers ('hot inside V') and dry sump lubrication is configured in two output ratings: as a GT with 456 hp (340 kW) and as a GT S with 503 hp (375 kW). The new GT combines driving dynamics and first-class racetrack performance with superb everyday practicality and efficiency that sets new standards in the segment.

It has everything you would expect from an authentic Mercedes-AMG sports car – from the characteristic styling, thoroughbred motorsport technology to the optimum weight distribution. The drive system tailored to consistently delivering driving dynamics perfectly complements this set-up. The centerpiece of the Mercedes-AMG GT is the new 4.0-liter V8 biturbo, which responds instantly with extreme power at low revs and delivers outstanding performance. Top figures such as 3.7 seconds from 0-60 mph (preliminary) and a top speed of 193 mph (310 km/h), combined with the outstanding driving dynamics will undoubtedly translate into extremely fast laps on the racetrack.

Wonder if the new turbocharged V8 will match up with the amazing, insanely angry sound of the naturally aspirated V8 of the SLS...

With CA cops and CHP being omnipresent assholes, I drive a V6 2013 Camaro 1LT. I'm going to put some basic mods into next year (cold air intake, ported throttle body, maybe an exhaust kit (but low on priority since the lack of headers on the block make an exhaust upgrade purely an audible enhancement)).

When I can earn truly Fuck You money, the only car I want is a Pagani Huayra (which I can't find an appropriately sized photo of while on my phone).

Why do Porsches sell for way over Kelley Blue Book?

Is this on all luxury cars?

I thought that you should be paying around kelley blue book on a car but all of the porsches are priced way above in my area.

I have an ageless wonder '06 Mercedes C230 sedan w/ stick shift, almost 200,000 miles on the odometer. I'm gonna have to give her up someday though. Sucks that MB stopped offering the C-class in manual trans in the United States. Damn yuppies too lazy to learn stick. The BMW 328i is attractive to me and is still offered in a manual in the US market.

Drove a SL63 AMG last week, man what a car.

Got the sucker up to 275 km/h, the most shocking thing was how quickly it got to that speed.

Nixon, that 98 is the best choice but the two door model. Still cheap. I have a 72 Riv for sale now rusty but great inside and motor 455 is great. Those old 98s though were crazy thinking that mostly old ladys drove them..

Road and Track Wrote:A go-faster, V-badged version of Cadillac's compact ATS sedan was always planned, so there was no massive surgery needed to create the ferocious ATS-V. Cadillac started with the 3.6-liter V6 from the CTS Vsport and added Pankl Racing Systems-sourced titanium connecting rods, two water-to-air intercoolers, and twin titanium-turbine turbochargers to spin up more than 450 hp and 445 lb-ft of torque. That's ample motivation for this 3600-pound BMW M3-fighter. A third radiator, low and center in that angry front fascia, is dedicated solely to wicking heat from the transmission and electronically locking differential.

It's grippier, too. Beefier suspension components increase roll stiffness by 50 percent compared with the standard ATS, helping Michelin Pilot Super Sport rubber find footing. The optional track pack adds a front splitter, side skirts, and a rear spoiler, all of which help produce 100 pounds of downforce at 150 mph.

There's a choice between an eight-speed automatic and a six-speed manual, each of which will let you perform a no-lift shift. This is Cadillac's cry of "Achtung, baby!" to Mercedes's AMG and BMW's M divisions, so keep your foot in it for America.

That is generally true for the older air-cooled cars (911). Especially early 70's cars. And the Turbos. Ask me how I know :-) And it's because they just don't make them like that anymore. Today's cars don't offer the driving sensations, the personality, the craftsmanship, the rarity. The older cars are only getting more rare.
