There is a huge difference between traveling around europe with a UK passport and traveling anywhere foreign from Canada/US (excluding mexico and the border states)


For starters, it is almost impossible for North American travelers to work legally while traveling. UK passport allows you to work anywhere in the EU with no problems. It's also considerably more expensive to fly anywhere international for us. Cheapest flights to europe from N.A return are going to be $600+, and easily into the thousands the farther east you go. Even flying to S. America is expensive compared to flying within the EU.

Yes I am from the UK, very few people that I know of on a gap year travel just to Europe, people seem to prefer to go further afield or take a round the world ticket.

With the strong economy and currency in Aus I don't see why you couldn't save some money if you decide to stay in a place for a few months. This is exactly what I did when travelling in Aus and the economy and currency were much weaker then.

You then have Asia right on your doorstep where your money can really go a long way, so it's really not that difficult.

MiXX, I make good money by building and selling houses from the ground up. Theres money to be made in real estate, but most dudes aren't willing to work as hard as me.

bottom line is you are not buying a house that has had 3 owners already. Which is what 90% of what people do.

Even when you buy from a developer, unless you are buying his first 10 units, you are losing out.


Ground Zero (dirt), foreclosures, slum houses are truly the only way to make money in real estate..and then, you have to BUST YOUR ASS to make money off of it as you said.

Your right that buying a house as an investment is a bad idea most of the time, even though it's what society would tell you to do. I've cruched those numbers and by the time you pay interest on your mortgage and factor in maintanace and depreciation you lose out in the end. You CAN make good money speculating, but you have to have the cash to buy the place outright and know that house prices are going to rise. House prices have risen where I live in Canada by 30%-40% or more in the last five years. Thats a good investment.
Also, I wouldn't say that I bust may ass. I can make sixty grand in the eight months that it takes me to build a place. What I meant is that I've got skills and am willing to work with my hands... something most young men today don't want to do. Dudes don't want to get their hand dirty anymore but I would advise any smart young man to get a trade, start a business, and work hard. You'll be a millionaire by thiry five. No joke.

Mother fuckers these days are broke to travel!!!! thats part of the problem. Alot of people have fear, of stepping outside the comfort zone and dont want to travel. and the biggest one is that most companies give 2.5 weeks of vacation time! thats nothing compare to many euro companies that give their employees 1 month of vacation time.

Truly pathetic but not surprising, I have seen women online in Toronto with similar requirements.

As for leaving, I think the biggest problem is deciding where you want to go. It is a big adjustment, heck moving to the UK from Canada was hard.

To be truly happy I know I must leave Canada again. Money should never be an excuse, in fact you should not have an excuse.

The thing is though, it isn't hard. Before you go away for the first time it might seem daunting but it's really not that difficult once you're on the ground, everything seems to fall into place. There's no easier life than when travelling, no responsibilities, no work, no routine, no pressure.

I'm 23 and this is only my 2nd year in the game. Learning game has been one of the hardest things I've done. I'm seeing massive success lately but that first year was humbling. I hope to be able to live abroad by age 30. I am saying no to debt.

So I haven't read through everyones replies, but as someone who loves traveling and has done a lot of it, I am always surprised by how many Americans that can travel have almost zero interest in it.

Here are the main reasons why most Americans (who have money) don't travel:

They are scared to leave their comfort zone, everywhere in the world with the exception of Western Europe, is "dangerous" and your safety will be at risk. More than anything they are just scared of the unknown, a foreign language, culture, food, people, etc.

Americans are told that the U.S. is the greatest country in the world, and they believe it, why would they travel to an inferior country. America is a really big, diverse country and Americans are often incouraged to travel within the U.S. as opposed to going abroad.

Americans are lazy... traveling, especially to "exotic" places takes a lot of planning, commitment, etc., that's why Americans go on cruises and packaged tours, so they don't have to think and spend all the time planning/researching their itineraries.

U.S. is a status/material/career driven culture, there is no concept of a "gap year" here, you graduate high school and either go to college or get a job, or do both. It's not like in Europe/Australia where their is a tradition/culture of young people taking a year off to travel the world after high school/college.

Everyone in the U.S. is so stuck on material things... Most people spend their extra cash on a new TV with blue ray, new clothes/shoes/watch, new car, phone, laptop, etc. Money they could use to travel.

I have a good friend with a 300,000 + trust fund, who not only hasn't used a penny of that money on traveling abroad, but he's a total meizer who barely spends any cash at all. I could tell he really thought I was "crazy" for traveling to Brazil and S.E. Asia alone for long periods of time.

It's sad that alot of cats can't even afford (or don't think about) traveling domestically. I live in New York and some of my friends think Philadelphia is far away when it really isn't.

Sometimes you mention international travel and it looks like their head will explode.

The first time I left the country it was really rough, I took my tax money and half my savings along with the vacation pay from the crappy job that I was working. It was all so worth it. When I came back home I felt as if I had become aware that I was living in some bastard form of reality.

Learning game has been hard but I'd rather have it that way. I'm a musician and i'm pretty good at it but I had to get booed off stage and practically crapped on by a few of my inspirations to really question what I was doing wrong and start to make some progress at it. I look at game no different, Miles Davis once said that "you have to play along time before you can play like yourself". Lots of cats want a quick fix that's why they'll bang a fat sloth or someone who should be wearing a paper bag.

There are also a lot of cats who are "comfortable" with the way things are in their life, they're comfortable with being butt raped by their jobs, women and other parasitic forces in their life. I see traveling as a way to break you out of your comfort zone. If you can't afford to go to another country, stack some money up and head halfway across your own country to a different city. See how people live, find some locals and explore things for yourself. This will be infinitely better than spending a few days in a resort on a lawn chair.

For Americans you have South America right on your doorstep with some really cheap flights available through Spirit air. It cost me around $900 to fly their this year, it's a fraction of this price for Americans. I stayed in a shared apartment in Medellin for around $250 a month. So really if you wanted to go and spend a couple of months in Colombia we're not talking big bucks.

I can only speak for myself however my limiting factor is $$$$. I have a decent amount saved up, but I can only travel for so long without eventually running out of cash. As far as debt, my overhead is very low and I just have student loans

Mainstream society has wreaked havoc on many men in their 20s. When I began to read Roosh's blog a few years ago, I didn't completely see how the western female had declined. I saw glimpses here and there and I could somewhat relate to his descriptions, but not entirely. As I began to get out into the real world more, I saw it more and more. It has gotten much worse over the years, I remember the girls I would meet 5 years ago were much much different than today.

Living independently and having your own business is difficult. I tried to start my own business at 25 and failed. I had no idea what I was doing and lost a lot of ground financially. If I compare myself to people who just stuck it out with regular decent paying jobs it looks like they are ahead. The have bought condos, or houses, and decent cars. However, many of them are one paycheck away from humility.

I don't think there is anything wrong with living in America and we do have it good here in many respects. The problem is becoming that going to college and getting a four year degree does not guarantee you a decent paying job anymore. Sure some degrees are more valuable than others, but I know many people with technical degrees who are getting laid off, or having their jobs outsourced overseas. Beginning to work for an organization 30 years ago with a college degree pretty much guaranteed you a middle class life, and having enough money to raise a family. The place you began your working was for many people the same place they retired from. This is no longer true. Colleges crank out graduates every year in every discipline. They keep their tuition costs sky high, where nowadays some no name schools cost upwards of 45k per year. And why should the universities care? They have teenagers and their parents brainwashed that getting a college degree is the only way to 'the good life.' All the while hyping up their employment rates for graduates or advisors telling their students that if they can't find a job they should just go to graduate school. Once they hit the job market most new graduates don't stand a chance or have to take low paying jobs in or out of their field. Unless you have a connection your resume sits in a pile with 500 others. It doesn't matter how good you are, it's a stroke of luck for it to even be viewed.

This is not always the case of course, I have a decent although temporary job right now. It pays the bills, and I make more than most people my age however when it ends I don't know what I'll do. It's going to be a huge blessing because I can pack my bags and travel with nothing holding me back. The 'I have a good paying job' excuse will no longer exist, and it's will be time to really look outside the box because I'll have no choice.

Money is definitely the main problem. Just imagine how many people are living check-to-check, dealing with student loans, strapped with debt, and living on welfare or meager salaries. Many people also don't have the luxury of falling back on mom and dad if things go wrong. A couple hundred dollars is a big deal for a lot of young people today.

Time is also an issue. A lot of people only get two weeks off a year when starting...if they're employed at all and even have a job that allows them time off. Two weeks abroad doesn't seem worth it to most people, myself included. I'd need at least a month to be willing to put forward the cash and time to make the trip.

I don't think most people are doing it because they're pussies. Times are tough and people are strapped in the machine. A lot of us count ourselves lucky when we're able to pay the rent each month. I wouldn't be so quick to judge these people when they're unwilling to part with cash or take risks.

Internet Marketing: Write articles about topics you enjoy, approach Google get them to put Ads on your pages, you and Google share the revenue. Residual Income, sweet.

Freelancing: Anyone can be a freelancer these days. And if you're based overseas, and are a native speaker, that gives you the edge as you can work for less than your fellow countryfolk. There are numerous freelancing websites out there with jobs for pretty much anybody. Getting paid $10 an hour to do a telemarketing job in the US doesn't sound very good, but if you're
in India and you have free VOIP calls to the US, then it's not bad. Or better still outsource it to an Indian for $5 an hour, rinse and repeat. Gorge yourself on Bhajis and Samosas.

Outsourcing: Find some clients in the US or wherever who need call centre staff. Set up a call centre in Indonesia, with some good English speakers, pay them peanuts. Spend your days surfing and chasing tail.

For me, travel has been about staying in shitty hostels that all looked alike, filled with German tourists (that all looked alike) while spending the day looking at things made by dead people, punctuated by epic bouts of food sickness and diarrhea. I did for a few years and hated it. Left me convinced travel was for suckers.

The average American goes to the same shitty tourist infected spots as every one else in the world: Paris; Rome; Venice; London. The travel industry sells visiting them as a social prestige enhancer: Visit them and you'll be part of the club. In reality they're expensive, with a price tag far higher than the value of the experience offered. You're ultimately spending thousands to see yet another museum. Boring.

And don't even get me started on Travel and Leisure. It's a solid magazine of back-to-back overpriced, underwhelming "experiences and spa retreats". Avoid.

What seems to be advocated here is a Modified Gypset. (for non-English speakers, it's a combination of the word "gypsy" as in someone who moves often, and "jet set" --a term from the 1950s for an elite group of people who flew so often it seemed they lived in jets)

Why does it have to be all or nothing? Sure it would be nice to have a good online income stream coming in and travel as long as you want which is not something most people can achieve. But just saving up a couple of thousand dollars and heading down to chill out in South America for a few months is really not that difficult.

If you're just putting it off until you're in the perfect position the less likely it will ever happen.
