I just had a talk with one of my hipster friends about guys that hipster chicks are into. BTW, I'm not trying to game her. We've talked about a lot of game ideas, so she knows where I'm coming from.

She said she understands that most girls are attracted to stereotypical manly alphas, but that her scene is not into that. She said they are into pretty boys, model types, tall guys, not too buff, etc.

I believe urban hipster girls fall into a more masculinized type of women. Most of the ones I know are on anti-depressants. I'd still like to be able to tap this scene more because I'm surrounded by them. Anyone else in a similar boat that can chime in with some advice?

What's weird is one of my girls has been pushing me to buy and wear more hipster shit (last night we were at urban outfitters trying to figure out a way to get into the same changing room -- too much security). I'll admit I look good in a lot of retro/vintage style clothing but it can be tough to mesh with my personality. Works though, so I can hardly complain.

I took some fashion advice from this chick and it changed a lot for me too. These girls are so in their heads about what is "in," that you can have not-so-stellar game but still access them if you are also "in." However if you are wearing what they believe are out-of-style clothes, it is as if you are invisible.

I know, because my game isn't all that good yet, but I started getting laid a lot more when I put on tighter jeans.

I think that hipster dudes join that scene because they know they don't have stereotypically attractive male traits, but can at least try to dress their way into some kind of acceptance. I've seen really emo / witch-house looking effeminate guys walking around with model type girls. Maybe it's just a different organization of social values at play?

Hating on hipsters is good. It keeps the bridge and tunnel bros away. Personally, my favorite is the 'limbo hipster,' who will frequent hipster spots, Yelp, OKC, but will mock hipsters all the same and hates douchebags with a passion. Usually frequent upscale hipster joints. People call hipsters pretentious, but most of those that I've met were fine. I get called pretentious often - it's just a word insecure people use for anyone who dares to reject mainstream tastes for something they deem better.

The pluses with hipsters:

Good humor goes a long way. I can be dry, wry, droll, whimsical, acerbic. The real stuck-up sorority types will easily brand someone like me a 'weirdo.' A little eccentricity helps with hipsters.

Less insular, more open to talking to strangers, IMO. Doesn't call guys creepers or randos as much as the sorority types.

Reward good style more than other girls.

Their clothes and even their faces are more distinctive.

They don't play beer pong or watch pro sports as much. More conversations happen at hipster house parties. Less of a WOO WOO crowd.

I'm going to get a lot more exposure to hipsters in the coming months, I'll see what I come up with. I was living in an anti-hipster capital, so my conception of a hipster is a little broad.

hipsters are very prevalent in my city. if you frequent some of the cafes with free wifi and toasties which resemble someone's 'just a few things thrown together' lounge room but placed within a garage with an art gallery attached to the back you will definitely see some babes.

there's a lot of quality hipster girls. don't downplay this.

ok so you need to lift your status in a way they will appreciate. these are the categories: music/art/fashion/politics.


the shit testing will be intense to see if you are congruent. in order to seem congruent you need to actually have some background knowledge. i guess i could be seen as semi-hipster in that i understand and recognise what is hot/not in the hipster scene even if i don't buy into it.


how to pass hipster shit tests


music (the one you need to get right above all others):
- i just blatantly lie about gigs i've attended and band members i've met. i have a hipster friend so i just ask him what he's up to and say i've done the things he has even though i haven't. i have a lot of music on my itunes so i can bluff this well.
- also hipsters love festivals. know all the festivals and what they represent. say the wrong festival and you get lumped with the pill-popping gymrat electro-DJ crowd. if i get asked if i 'went to this festival' i say i had tickets but went overseas to see *insert more prestigious* festival instead to see my mate play so i gave them away to this struggling artist friend of mine.
- 'i tripped balls hardcore at that festival...'
- mention pitchfork and critique them for bias/shit reviews
- don't make a big deal about anyone. quietly approve of bands.

art
- i don't give a shit about art but i can make it seem as if i do by rambling on about van gogh, dada and banksy
- low key moving images exhibitions are all the rage
- never admit you don't understand something
- how you 'feel' in response to something is good

fashion
- nothing with brand labels
- get something idiosyncratic - esp. ring/necklace/wristband
- nothing semi-formal
- coats should look unique
- lots of black/grey/navy and stripes or chequered clothing
- you dress up like a gay 12yo kid for house parties and festivals

politics
- i have a position at a international affairs think tank so i have this covered. hipsters wish they could be diplomats so this is a big status booster for me.
- obviously not anywhere near the political right.
- don't talk politics unless it's something that requires no argument

if you have all of this covered...
- well done because the more hipster they are the tougher it will be to bluff your way through. pass and she will consider you as someone of high status worth dating
- get her number
- date should seem spontaneous
- either a gig/cafe/hipster bar or a picnic in a park with wine/bread/cheese. just get them drinking at a hipster approved venue and escalate.

I've been going to punk shows more and more and discovered that some of these places around town have meetings, movie night, shit like that. I've also been grabbing flyers and getting info from Facebook while scoping out the girls online. I joined some facebook group and ended up getting kicked out because I started talking shit about welfare and told them to stop complaining like pussies.

I'm thinking of going to some of these events drunk and casually expressing my opinions at a discussion with the hippy types. I don't know if my opposing views will help me with the hipster rocker vegans or make them want to attack me. There's some cute hipsters in this scene. Houston needs some liberal pussy....

Houston, those are some of the crowds I mingle in, and I live in Houston, and I can tell you straight up, starting a political discussion or quasi-arguments to try and elicit some sort of emotional response to play on is definitely not the way to go. Most of these girls are extremely insecure and just keep up the hipster pretense as a sort of faux-exclusiveity ego and self esteem booster. Most of them couldn't tell you why they are a feminist or have read any feminist or political theory or literature (literally, none) but will die defending their assumptions and try their best to take you down with them. And if she is with friends you bet your sweet ass the herd instinct will kick in. A strong frame or even-headedness accomplishes nothing in the face of blind obedience to ignorance. Just keep it light and breezy like with all other females. The one caveat to this rule is if you are extremely knowledgeable and can drop knowledge and deliver like Christopher Hitchens. I'm pretty well versed in religion and have pwned a couple of chicks in front of other people, and in one or two cases it turned out well and I amped up attraction, but as a rule, it is generally not worth it. The times the conversation has soured WAY outnumber the times it has ended positively.

Farmageddon's on the money. These hipster girls are all flash and no substance. Women (maybe even men too) in general tend to have little indepth knowledge or interest in the world outside of their job/degree or whatever and this holds true for hipster girls as well. Their politics whether it be environmentalist or feminist or humanist is something they'll be passionate about but don't surprised if you know more about their politics than they do. The most important thing for them by far is music.

This will all be overkill if you don't live in a hipster dense city, and I'm discussing the 16-23 year old crowd here.

Bands every hipster/indie girl will know across the world:
Vampire Weekend, Phoenix, Two Door Cinema Club, Arcade Fire, Radiohead, Arctic Monkeys and Bon Iver

The holy trinity of 80's bands that pretty much all hipster/indie girls will know: Joy Division (reformed as New Order and became disco), The Smiths and Sonic Youth

Wearing t-shirts of some of the bands I listed has frequently gotten me opened at night by the hipster type. Sometimes while day gaming I've had girls stare down the shirt if they like the band as well. Opening is easy as cake. Ferdinand Bardamu of In Mala Fide claimed his Sonic Youth "Goo" album cover t shirt helped him swoop half a dozen girls over the years (even girls who don't know them always ask to have a close look to read the writing which your opportunity to reel them in).



Oh yeah if it comes up, you think she has good taste in music and you hate the website Pitchfork.com (the Rolling Stone of hipsterdom, with a stronger emphasis on album reviews).

If you mainly listen to anything electronic, tell them your favourite act is Crystal Castles if asked. If you're a Hip-Hop fan then Tyler, The Creator (all of them will know "Yonkers") or Odd Future short for: OFWGKTA (all will know their lyrics "Kill people, burn shit, fuck school") The Weeknd and Childish Gambino are you favs.

Movies: (500) Days of Summer (the song sung in the famous elevator scene is "There Is A Light That Never Goes Out" by The Smiths), Donnie Darko, Amelie, Control (biopic about Ian Curtis of Joy Division and his suicide), Perks of Being a Wallflower and anything directed by Sofia Coppola (Phoenix's next album is inspired by her film "Somewhere" after she used "Love Like A Sunset" in it and you love how she used New Order's "Ceremony" in Marie Antoinette).

Books: Franz Kafka and Oscar Wilde appear to be loved by indie girls en masse. Anything by John Green or Jonathan Safran Foer as well.

You don't need to know any of these at all, but if you're going to try and pass as having similar tastes, you'll need to know your shit pikachufanboy and I live in the same city and it's a huge hipster bastion. As he alluded to, if a real hipster (not the ones who only dress hipster) find you out listen to Skrillex or Snoop Dogg on a regular basis you will be looked down upon. You're probably better off saying you don't listen to music at all. Despite the pretense of being open-minded and tolerant, they look down on people whose tastes don't line up with there's. If you are either conservative, aren't pro-choice or pro gay marriage for fucks sake just lie and say otherwise if it comes up.

The pop culture detailed above won't be shared with girls who dress hipster but aren't actually hipsters. You definitely do not need to have hipster tastes to game hipster girls. Just avoid bringing up anything considered inferior by them early on.

Also houston, I know this doesn't apply to you but in the general the more vocal a person is about hating hipsters, they more likely they are to actually be one...

I've noticed that I get along with hipsters in their mid 20's and up because I like so many underground and artsy movies. I was talking to a guy at a record story today for a while about movies and some girl hopped in the conversation. I'm still trying to figure out how to use it to my advantage. I look young as hell and can't relate to the younger ones at all. They seem more like posers than the older cats.

I'm starting to have a soft spot for hipsters. They ain't to bad after all

While on the job yesterday I had to deal with a hipster "dude" that stopped in. I'm starting to question if these fuckers even have a pair of swinging nuts, because everything about the guy seemed frail and feminine. Spoke very softly, did not make eye contact, soft handshake, dressed like shit, cheap, etc.

Hipster chicks tend to like me, and I'm starting to think it's because I'm damned near everything the boys in the hipster clans are not (i.e. confident, well dressed, thinks drinking PBR is only acceptable when mowing the lawn, etc.)

Come to think of it I think I'm pretty hipster, unknowingly though.

-I wear Smith's shirts and have their CD's (genuine fan)
-I enjoy indie music and everything that is not mainstream, typically songs that can be found on YouTube with 500,000 views or less more or so.
-I thrift shop but not often.
-I will obsess over the lyrics of a song.
-Enjoy vintage objects and pieces.

My point being this scene really seems to fit, I simply feel as if I don't belong in this generation and would much rather live in the 80's or 50's. I'm in LA in that scene is big here, I will try to crack down on it since I genuinely enjoy the culture.

I'm also very flexible with style or so I believe, I can get hyped and hit up a club nicely dressed and can easily put on my leather jacket and boots and play a bad boy persona. From what the previous posts mentioned I believe I can hold up a decent conversation with some hipster girls.

I asked recently about volunteering at museums for girls. I believe that you could snake your way from that volunteering into bigger parties like this and dominate the scene if you play your cards correct. I believe that the art scene and hipster girls mix and mingle. So where there is one, the other will be some where around.






Is this how hipster parties are? I have watched other Boiler Room videos and NOBODY gets up, moves, dances or any thing. Strange indeed.

I Disagree, Every morning I stop at a Hipster Coffee shop and mostly in a Coat with pocket square, I get compliments from girls all the time. They even ask me for Fashion advice. One girl did an article on my style in a local paper

Contrast Game They will be Intrigued, Yes they can get Intimidated by a well dressed man, but I have a very soft and friendly demeanor and works like a charm.

I like this type of chick ( apart from the tattoos, WTF with those??) I like the feminine 1940's /50's look.
A way I've found to attract this type of chick is if you own a classic car ( or a few!) and play in a band, they seem to like that. In the UK you can see a lot of these chicks at classic car shows and meets.
