Cost of Living in the Developing World Edit: Comparison Site Found
I've read that S.E Asia can be done for $1000 a month. $2000 if you want to live like a king.

Any idea of the numbers for Colombia (Medellin) and Brazil?
Specifically Rio?

Can Poland and Ukraine also be done that cheap?

Edit: I found a website which compares every city in the world to each other in terms of cost of living.

Here's the best website for anyone planning on living in the Phils:

http://livingincebu.com/living_in_cebu.htm

I plan, from the advice of the forum, traveling through the Balkans and EE with $2500 per month. That includes a moderate apt., cooking at home and partying a few nights a week.

That Numbeo site is pretty interesting and seems pretty accurate but I did notice a few minor things were off a little.

I don't know anything about the rest of SE Asia but I do know the Philippines fairly well. In the Philippines, a really popular job right now is call center workers because of their higher pay in contrast to other positions. I talked to one who works for an American cellphone company and they work 48 hours per week for a salary of around $300 USD per month.

These call center workers manage to survive on that monthly salary that we in the United States couldn't live on for one week. So imagine that if you have $1,000/month or even better $1,500/month you could afford a pretty damn good lifestyle. You could have larger apartment in a better neighborhood, better food, faster internet, a maid, a nice entertainment budget, and even more benefits.

Speaking of maids, I meet an American guy who has a wife in the Philippines and they have a live in maid college student and she cost only $100 a month. Pretty good deal if you ask me.

Rio has got pretty expensive since I first moved here in '04. Last night the exchange rate was 1.69 reais to 1 American dollar, when I moved here it was 3 to 1. The price of food, housing and entertainment has also risen. The north of Brazil will more than likely be cheaper

Try this, some can be off tough, but they do give a fairly good idea.
