Must be frustrating to be Uriah Faber - guy can beat everyone in whatever division he's in except for the champ. Same goes for his two Team Alpha Male teammates: Joe Benavidez and Chad Mendes.

Saturday's UFC was really subpar in my opinion. Aldo fight was a snoozer. Faber was still fighting when it was stopped

UFC 171 tonight! Hendricks is finally gonna get the belt he should have got after beating GSP. I'm pulling for Woodley over Condit, I like Condit and hes a beast but Woodley seemed very humble and hungry leading up to this fight. An I really hope Diego Sanchez wins. I love watching him fight, he always brings it. His fight against Gilbert Melendez is one of the best fights I have ever scene.
This Myles Jury kid looked shook during the stare down. His eyes were all big and you can see him take a big gulp of air ha.

Big fights tonight! I like Jones and usually want to see him win. However Chuck Liddell was my favorite fighter of all time and Teixeira was a long time training partner of his so I kind of feel like I should cheer for him. I'm just hoping its a good fight! The co main event should be good to. Davis is a beast with his wrestling but Johnson has crazy knockout power.

Feel bad for Ross Pearson. Poor guy was fucking robbed last night. Pearson has appealed, and if there was ever a fight where the decision could easily be reversed or at least declared a no contest, it's this one.

RE: Any of you guys MMA fans?
Looks like Chael Sonnen is done?

http://fansided.com/2014/06/17/chael-son...te/#!5OaSR

"Sonnen failed a drug test recently, as he tested positive for two illegal substances anastrozole and clomiphene. While neither are anabolic steroids, both are on the banned substance list. Anastrozole is used to treat the early stages of breast cancer and gynecomastia, and Clomiphene is used in cases of femals infertility.

Sonnen retired the following day on UFC tonight, citing his desire to start a family, and the result in testosterone replacement therapy being banned causing the drug test failure, as he had to safely elevate his levels. However, the NSAC outright banned TRT while Sonnen had a fight scheduled, rendering him unable to raise his levels without the use of banned substances."

Kinda sucks for DC to get such a quick shot. I would have liked to have seen AG fight DC first.

I was looking forward to the Jones/Gustafsson rematch. Their first fight was a war.

Cormier is no slouch, I think hes won like his last 18 MMA fights in a row... Plus theres trash talking going on so I imagine Jones will be extra motivated to have a good camp and put on a good fight.

RE: Any of you guys MMA fans?
The incredible amount of training injuries that ruin main events pretty much killed my enjoyment of MMA. When a fight is announced these days it's basically a coin flip whether or not it gets cancelled because one of the guys get an injury in camp. Combine that with the more conservative fighting styles used today (resulting in more decisions) and the lighter weight classes (again more decisions) and the sport just isn't as much fun to watch as it was a few years ago. I watched pretty much every UFC event from 2006 to 2013, but have only seen a couple in the past year and none so far in 2014.

Anyone else feel the same?

I think this is going to be a great fight. I am a huge fan of Cormier since I saw him fighting Jeff Monson in Strikeforce. If someone can defeat Jones, its Cormier.

RE: Any of you guys MMA fans?
I agree its not as exciting as it was in previous years. Now that everyone has been training everything fighting styles just cancel each other out and it makes for very stale fights. Before everyone would be kind of well versed but usually really good at one style like Judo or Tae Kwon Do ect...Now everyone is just a MMA fighter. I bought every PPV for years until the last year or so. Now I just go to a sports bar showing the fights or just stream them on my laptop off firstrowsports.

Theres still some good fights but they are much fewer and farther between then they used to be. I loved the Sanchez/Melendez fight. I like it when fighters fight with some emotion even tho not many do anymore. The free fights on Fox this Saturday should be pretty good. The Lawler/Brown fight there should be exciting. Both those guys go out there to knock people out.

I am one who actually likes to see a even fight where its a stalemate until one fighter either tactically, by knockout or submission fights through. Favorit so far was Lawler vs Hendrics. Hendricks took the last round by takedown which was a great move because it was one of the factors that made him win the round

Absolutely! It's just not the same anymore. Dana puts on too many pay per views and the qualities of those fights are getting worse. Alot of the old guard from the old days cannot hang anymore or are getting old too. Those guys fought for the love of the sport like I did, long before any decent money could be found doing it.

Their model of pay for the fighters also sucks. They need to switch to a semi-boxing style pay system and actually market the purse amounts to increase interest in the fights. Paying the top tier guys 400K a year with medical benefits is just lame and greedy. They have to rely on sponsors to break a million. Only the contenders get small cuts from the payperview. Tillman and his brother are more interested in being stronger billionaires instead.

They can force their top guys into mainstream american culture easier with bigger purses for the prize. That can also draw more in advertising dollars too. Right now they have hit the plateau. Their stubborness will keep them there.

I was hoping Anderson, GSP, and maybe Jones, would finish their contracts as Champions and then join Mark Cuban to promote independent prizefights like they do in boxing. They would be able to get 20 million for each guy like this. That would get the attention Floyd's fights get. The timing just is not right and Anderson is kinda too old now. There was a chance for this when Fedor was still fighting and that failed too due to a bunch of reasons. Strikeforce tried but it was just a UFC clone and got bought out.

Mark Cuban is still interested in taking down UFC for the joke it is, in terms of taking better care of the fighters, but he is just a business man with money, he would need the help of several fighters to band together to get something proper going.

You can kinda thank athletes for doing that. Collegiate/olympic level freestyle and greco-roman wrestling guys were able to compensate for their lack of technique by just being too tough and physically elite. When some of these guys like Jon Jones, have the brain of an NFL QB, and the physically gifted body of a Terrell Owens, they will spend a small amount of time learning techniques then run through most classically trained guys.

They alone have the cardio to outlast someone better than them. The longer rounds they introduced some years back made it even worse. Now all your NCAA Div 1 champion and contender Wrestlers are flooding into the MMA system instead of trying NFL or other stuff.

GSP is an odd case. He is highly classically trained and an elite world class athlete. He would be on Canada's Olympic wrestling team if he was not in MMA or a Karate fighter fighting in Japan's Karate circuits.
