You know that Tyrion shirt that's popular right now? "I drink and I know things"? To avoid these tricks, it's useful to be that guy that "Drinks, and I don't know things." At least, not specifics. You can converse perfectly naturally without knowing anything. I like to run my life on a need-to-know basis. Do I need to know? If not, then don't tell me.

I've also read in a book that spies often work on having flaws, the techniques work so perfectly that they seem to good to be true so they have to throw in minor flaws in order to seem more believable. These flaws often come off as strategic.

I've also read that these people take acting classes and sometimes their actions seem a bit too "romantic" (as in too poetic or too cinematic) as if they're actors in a movie and not real people in real life.

The old Mission Impossible with Peter Graves had Martin Landau's character as an actor who was just enough to be good, but not good enough to be famous.

I was in the naval nuclear pipeline and because nucwaste, partly for dating a Russian. She worked at McDonald's and was certainly not a spy, but my command caught hold of it and blacklisted me from getting check outs.

So I don't have any secrets for not getting in trouble. But know all about getting in trouble for nothing.

This is a great strategy. Of course you are right, be vague and turn the subject back to the other person and people will love you and be bowled over by your wisdom and insight.

And you will have been left alone.
