I will say this much, Yang does in fact spell out all of the positions he believes in, and usually quite clearly.

The man absolutely killed it. His humor especially was completely on point. I cracked up many times.

It's worth repeating: Yang is extremely like-able as a person, even if you don't agree with his policies. And that matters a lot because it'll make people listen to him. And the more people listen to him, the more people will get convinced of his ideas.

I'm looking forward to the debates.

Agree or disagree, Yang to me seems smart, likeable, has coherent speech and some of his ideas are interesting, he also doesn't racebait or use the victim card.

... Which obviously makes him unelectable. He's also a male, and the second worst thing after a white male, an East Asian male. And he has KIDS, his wife is a housewife too. OH THE AUDACITY! Women in general won't vote for him.

Sure, it's better than starving in the gutter but if you have any other options then security work is shit. Shit pay. Shit conditions. 99% extreme boredom 1% extreme danger, and there's no pension or VA when some asshole shanks you and you spend the rest of your life pissing into a bag.

What I will say about security work is that it's the most woefully under-unionised employment sectors in the West. I have no idea why. A guard's union would have massive bargaining power and I suspect things like that have been artificially crushed because over time it could verge on becoming a functional paramilitary organisation.

RE: The Andrew Yang thread
Yang did very well in his town hall.

He also didn't fall into the white nationalist trap question either and he smoothly ignored the request for anti-white nationalist legislation.

One thing that did give me a little pause was his fact-finder news committee deal where a committee would be responsible determining facts of media sources and give redress (via fines, retractions, apologies) supposedly to those wronged by the news media.

Could be awesome or horrible depending on the details.

I did roll my eyes hard when he said that CNN gets its info 99.9% of the time right so they wouldn't have to worry about it much. I get it... don't shit on your host... but goddamn.

He also combed his hair which he needs to do more. Dude in a few videos I've seen of him, he looks like he has bed head.

Mostly softballs otherwise but a really solid performance. He should do very well in the debates if he can repeat the overall vibe he had today.

Security's on the list to be automated. There are guard robots out there right now.
Also, parcel carriers and automated delivery trucks don't need guards. Remember, these things are absolutely packed with sensors and cameras, so anybody who tries to rob one is gonna have their face identified before they get within 30 feet of the thing.

Imagine knocking over a parcel delivery bot, like this one.

Obviously the thing is locked, so you'd have to bust open the lock to get whatever's inside, right? Now, this thing pretty clearly only holds one or two packages at a time. So let's say you decide that since nobody's guarding this thing, you're gonna roll up to it, bust it open, and run off with the contents. You get a crowbar, force open the lock, grab the packages and split.

Congratulations, your dumb ass just committed felony property damage (Those things are easily in excess of 1k to repair) in order to grab two amazon packages. You probably got a hairdryer and some dude's copy of Game of Thrones. Plus, you did it on camera.

The elites and their poorer cousins are going to be very hesitant to adopt robo-guards. Although it might seem like a no-brainer (so to speak) they're only one solid hack away from being strangled in their beds by their Roomba-guard.

That might seem out of reach for basement dwelling h4x0rs but it's eminently possible for highly paid teams working for foreign governments (or other scheming elites).

This Christmas there was a huge local problem with people stealing packages off porches, and I doubt the thieves were getting caught given the prevalence. I do remember soyboys proudly defending their parcels with booby-trapped glitter spraying packages, all the while thinking that a box full of armed rat traps or a bunch of fireworks rigged to go off would work way better.

Yeah, if you want some packages way way safer to just grab off a porch and run than go get a felony for fucking with omniscient camera-bot.

RE: The Andrew Yang thread
I guess you could say he "did well" in the town hall but why wouldn't he? CNN staged the entire circus in his favor.

Further, I don't see how being smart, charismatic, successful and glib—all of which are qualities that Yang possesses in spades—in any way changes the fundamental stupidity of almost all of the ideas he propounds in his platform (save a few).

If anything, I regard charismatic people with even more suspicion than I otherwise might because oftentimes their whole game is misdirection. If you can't deliver the goodies, just talk a good game. That mild mannered Asian guy act doesn't fool me for a minute. Especially after having lived in Asia for 7 years. Bottom line is that he's after power, and he means business.

Yang is one among countless charming crackpots who exist out there in the world. I've even made the mistake of hiring a few during the life of my online business. But ultimately results don't lie. And you can't charm your way out of not having done what you were paid to do.

The empirical results of virtually all of Yang's ideas have been tested ad nauseum in many permutations and in many different places. He may be offering "real solutions" while republicucks parrot Fox News talking points but the distinction is superficial once you look at first principles.

For instance, I saw him give an interview for a Libertarian (so called) talk show where he invoked the name of Milton Friedman as being the "patron saint" of Libertarians and how he supported UBI. Except that what Friedman supported was a negative income tax which was wholly different in its economic and governmental underpinnings than what Yang proposes. That was intentionally disingenuous of Yang because he's smart enough to know the different between what he and Friedman propose, and he's counting on the average libertarian being too stupid to know that difference (which they probably are).

The idea that giving people money will create jobs and stimulate the economy whilst simultaneously funding the handout through a tax on the entire production chain of American businesses (which is what a VAT is), without revoking the current welfare system, is fundamentally contradictory. His verbal virtuosity cannot subvert the laws of economics.

I understand his appeal, I really do. It's that he feels somehow "different" (which presupposes that being different is automatically good; it isn't). He's not your average leftist. He's a bit more cunning. He's cut from the Ho Chi Minh cloth. There was a real cunning mofo. And he knew the long game.

All in all, it does little to change the fact that the results of his policies will be a net negative to the country and to real flesh and blood human beings.

Lastly, and this is purely a subjective opinion: he is not the kind of guy I would want as commander in chief of the armed forces.

This is a misstatement of the purpose of the UBI. The UBI's goal is a GEOGRAPHIC transfer of wealth, from the 6 or so cities (LA NY Boston Chicago SF Seattle) that command some gigantic portion of the country's wealth to the rest of the nation. So economic growth in the financial power centers is lessened (Due to the VAT putting a downward pressure on growth that exceeds the benefit the already-wealthy local population reaps from the UBI), while economic growth in say, Gary Indiana or Akron Ohio, goes way up (because the UBI is diverting a ton of cash into the local economy). There's nothing particularly contradictory about it, and it doesn't violate any fundamental laws of economics.

Is anyone else following the rumblings surrounding the economy, retail, homes market and financial markets? There is a lot to digest but if something happens and it all starts falling then Yang is well placed for many people to vote for him.

Good news, everyone!

While 3% doesn't sound like much, when you consider he's coming from having no brand name at all to being above Cory Booker and Tulsi Gabbard, and this was before the CNN town hall, it's not too bad.

Had a rally today in DC. Looks to be a couple thousand, decent turnout I'd say.

Also, while he was in DC, he spoke to PBS Newshour

Yeah, I'm not a fan of that, either. I'd say I agree with a good 80% of what Yang says, which is much more than any other candidate. But there are definitely things like that I don't need. I also wish he was more supportive of free speech rights, but I'm a militant free speech supporter and right now no one meets my standards for that, so...

I'm worried that he'll be too deferential to Bernie and Biden, but especially Bernie. When Bernie says, again, "I don't think we're there yet for UBI..." Yang is going to have to say, "I think you're wrong, and here are the numbers..." and I hope he's got it in him to say that. I was encouraged by him pushing back on Dems wanting to remove the electoral college.

My concern is that he will be totally dismissed and not given a chance to speak at the debates. Maybe they let Yang talk about the UBI, then go to Bernie to let him totally dismiss it "we don't need it at this point" and then that's it and they don't go to Yang for the rest of the debate.

I have a long post in the Dem 2020 thread I just uploaded where I said Bernie is Yang's biggest threat and he needs to peel some guys off from his camp ultimately to be successful; similarly to how Trump stole the anti-establishment/outsider support from Cruz in the 2016 GOP primary.

Yang knows this but also knows he can't come in swinging for Bernie's face. But he doesn't need to; he is essentially offering what Bernie is offering on some fronts except better and without the shitty stuff. How can a true Bernie Bro not at least consider a guy advocating for UBI of all things?

The best thing that could happen to Yang is that Bernie becomes ill or dies in the fall. That or an endorsement.

The good thing thus far is that Yang with a fraction of the exposure and fame has ALREADY peeled off some Bernie Bros. Yang also has crossover appeal that Bernie will never have.

I do think guys need to condition their minds now though to NOT expect a Trump like debate this summer. Yang isn't going to come out swinging and start trash talking candidates. He is gonna present his platform and basically just default to: <So n So> plan is OK/not the best option but me giving a 1000 bucks a month to everyone is way better for solving that problem." --- He did this in the CNN town hall a bit and it worked well.

If there is anything I'm worried about right now, it's him talking about 16 year olds voting and/or this news media truth committee stuff or something similar. These are bullshit 3rd tier issues and he needs to avoid wasting a second of precious airtime talking about that dumb shit in a debate; save it for the hour long YouTube videos where he can field test that stuff. I think he means well when he brings these sort of things up but he can't be too naive and give the enemy easy softballs to knock him out with. It's one thing if he is asked but don't offer that shit up voluntarily. He's going up against a corrupt media that is trying to paint a Asian man with 3% of the vote and relatively little money as a white nationalist sympathizer already. I hope his idealism and optimism doesn't blind him to the raw viciousness of the system; THAT's where his downfall is going to come from if anything.

UBI, Medicare for All, and Humanity First are winners. Other things like regulating big tech are winners. No one gets hyped for 16 year olds voting or government committees regulating news content "truthiness."

If this goes through, AIPAC, big pharma, the MIC and Goldman Sachs are FUCKED!!! Voters will cumulatively have $20 billion to spend, that's ultraweaponized people power!

Yang-Tulsi 2020, all the way.

YouTube is trying to suppress the video.

I saw it somewhere else outside the forum originally and when I went and typed in "Buttgieg vs Yang" on youtube the next day, the video didn't show up. So I went back to the original source to find it and THEN tried searching again and it eventually showed up at #20 or 30 down the list. I tried variations while searching and it still didn't show before I dug up the video outside youtube.

I agree 911 - The Democracy Dollars is a great way to restore power to the people. Trying to get the money out of the system is extremely difficult so the next best thing is to just give people money instead. Between this and proportional electoral votes, that should be enough to vote for him in the primary if you are a Trump supporter and still plan on voting for Trump in the general.

Democracy Dollars and proportional electoral votes especially will give the GOP a much greater chance at survival than the current set-up by a significant margin. If Texas goes blue at the Presidential level, it's not the end times now. And when you can prop up grassroots MAGA candidates via Democracy Dollars, you might actually have a hope in hell in actually getting rid of the cucks. Plenty of MAGA guys out there but they can't afford to run for Congress. Get 10,000 supporters and now you got a million dollars to run for office. That's enough to compete in most districts and quit your job for 6-12 months to campaign effectively. AND that's not including the fact it would be even easier to run for office since you got 12k/year coming in and universal healthcare covering you ass.

There is a reason why usually only financially well-off people run for office: they are the only people who can afford it. And even then, they STILL have to go kiss corrupt donor class ass usually to get enough fuel to run an effective campaign. This has to change.

As I've said many times before: Yang just makes sense.
