I'm really coming around to Yang's way of thinking. Again - initially I thought he was a joke candidate, but I have to give credit to The Black Knight and SamB for consistently mentioning Yang.

Some of the stuff Yang says is really memorable, like "this is the trickle-up economy, not the trickle-down economy".

I am actually excited to watch the D debates. I think it'll be make or break for Yang.

Also, no idea who the hell this Pete Buttigieg is and why's he's rising fast in the prediction market. What the hell is going on there?

I made this point earlier, but it's worth repeating because I'm tired of the bullshit Yang is feeding Americans about the Value Added Tax (VAT). VAT is a tax that is added to the price of goods and services, same as the sales tax except it is accounted for differently. It is not a magical tax that evil businesses like Amazon will have to pay, suck it up and absorb the cost without passing it on to individuals.

A very simple example. Let's say I sell oranges for $1/pound. VAT is 20%. The total price I charge is $1.20 including VAT. Another guy, Jose, buys oranges from me and makes orange juice for $3 per bottle (assume it takes a pound of oranges to make a bottle of juice). Jose's final price is $3 + 20% VAT = $3.60 per bottle. When I file taxes, I pay 20 cents VAT per pound of oranges sold. Jose can deduct VAT he paid for oranges he used to make juice, so he pays 60-20=40 cents per bottle of orange juice. The government receives 60 cents per bottle or 20% of the price: 20 cents from me and 40 from Jose according to the value added to the final product, hence the name Value Added Tax. Now, if you as an individual consumer buy a bottle of juice from Jose, you will pay $3.60 instead of $3 and won't be able to deduct anything from that amount, same as with sales tax, just a different, more complicated way for businesses to account for it and pay it. In reality, of course, there are much longer supply chains and more intermediate goods and services to account for when calculating this tax, but the bottom line is that individuals pay VAT and businesses just pass it on to individuals.

A broader point is that any tax on businesses is passed on to consumers by raising prices. With VAT, the way it happens is just more transparent. To use the same example, let's say another liberal becomes President and proposes to raise the corporate income tax instead of VAT to pay for welfare. As an orange producer, I charge $1/lb without taxes, but with the new income tax let's say l have to raise the price by 20% to make the same profit, Jose will also raise the price for his juice. Otherwise we will have to close our businesses because we are not in the business of losing money. Same thing with raising minimum wages, requiring businesses to pay for licences or adding any other costs, but let's keep it simple for now and stick to taxes.

If Yang wins and introduces VAT to pay for UBI, consumers will have to keep paying current sales taxes + VAT. In Europe, VAT is normally higher than the sales tax and fewer categories of goods and services are exempt from it. Yang says in his interview that half the typical European VAT will be enough to pay for UBI, but i call BS. Other people will check his math and run the numbers independently if this idea gets more traction, but my guess is that the VAT will probably have to be at least 20% of the price and the current sales tax will stay in addition to that.

RE: The Andrew Yang thread

To be honest, I'm still in the "thinking it through" phase on UBI. It's big and complex and needs to be carefully considered.
I'm not sure Yang's benign paternalism is the right move for the country. (Though it's a hell of a lot better than a collapse that will result in hundreds of millions of deaths.)
And I have no position on circumcision, it's a big deal for some people but I honestly don't care about it.

But I am 100% unironically for any candidate who can make Ben Shapiro look bad.

RE: The Andrew Yang thread
Today’s food for thought:

Freedom Dividend/UBI = Reparations for taxpayers.

The USA just spent around 12 TRILLON dollars over the past 10 years. Doubling the national debt.

What do we have to show for it? Fuck all.

1. Trillions for stupid wars.
2. Billions for Israel.
3. Billions for pointless projects that add no value.
4. Billions for a broken, poorly designed welfare system.
5. Billions for worthless feel good initiatives; things like Princess Ivanaka's save the international faggots and women deal.
6. Billions in corporate welfare.
7. Billions for the military industrial complex.
8. Billions for social security that none of US will ever see a proper return on.
9. Billions wasted on inefficiencies and fraud, waste, and abuse.

Everyone bitching about the cost of this thing is hilarious; like the details even matter. We spend money like a drunken sailor and it does nothing for the average person. Aren’t you tired of getting nothing for your money as a taxpayer?

Furthermore, the automation wave onslaught IS coming (good quick video below in the tweet):

So, haven’t gotten a damn thing as a taxpayer AND tons of jobs are gonna be wiped out soon. What’s your alternative plan?

I respect some of the valid concerns people have brought up: inflation risk, making people lazy, abuse by gov’t for nefarious purposes.

But again: What is the alternative? There is no precedent for what is coming. And applying outdated concepts like tiny tax cuts and some deregulation is like putting a band-aid on a gun shot wound. That's applying 20th century solutions to 21st century problems. The early effects of the wave are already here. It’s not science fiction stuff 100 years away; this storm is at our doorstep right now.

If you're optimistic:

1000/month will improve the lives of many, allow one to pursue some things they otherwise might not be able to do, cushion the blow of millions of jobs being wiped out/hours reduced, and the government will actually do something tangibly positive for you as a taxpayer for a change.

IF you're pessimistic/black pill (pick your poison: hyperinflation, lazy people, gov't behavior control, whatever):

As Nick Fuentes has said: THE RULES DON'T MATTER. THE COUNTRY IS DOOM. So you might as well get some of your hard-earned tax money back in the meantime, something that will actually improve your life right now, before it all goes to shit.

I think about it like this:

If all the idealistic scenarios play out as hoped or even somewhat so, I win.

If I get some of my money back before it all goes to shit, I win.

So for me, Yang is a win-win.

What has Trump done for me that has really improve my life?

-Tax cuts for MNCs?
-Money for faggots overseas?
-All but ignored tech deplatforming?
-Drained the swamp? He can’t even drain the swamp in his own White House
-Get out Syria? We are out, then we are in, then we are sort of out? He is the CIC – who’s in control here?
-Go after violent left wing groups with overwhelming force?
-Fix healthcare?
-Improve integrity of elections and fix voter fraud?
-Has arrested any sanctuary mayors/governors?

Two years with a technical majority. Aside from judges, sticking it to political correctness, and MAYBE the trade deal stuff, it’s a big nothing burger. Whatever juice we were gonna get out of Trump, it has all been squeezed out already for the most part. There is NOTHING to indicate the trend is gonna reverse.

Might as well SECURE THE BAG!

Not even an attempt to seriously engage with the problem.

Libertarians dismiss the threat of automation and AI because it explodes their entire worldview. If humans were no longer economic actors in such a world then it becomes impossible to determine their economic value in a free market. It's a tough pill to swallow, but it's just the first step in the massive rethinking that the rise of AI will force humanity to undergo. Even if Yang wins and implements his freedom dividend, I can only imagine what he can do once AI becomes more generalized and more intelligent than humans, though at least he is thinking about it.

Don't even waste your time Brodiga, the people in here are just to give each other a big circle jerk. The VAT tax objection has been brought up at least 20-30 times in this thread, with big replies like yours, but the shills here just keep plowing.

I will laugh my ass off if Yang gets in and when the prices start rising 100-300% (including rents) due to the VAT taxes necessary to sustain such a UBI, and all the poor Whites who vote for him try protesting just for Yang to send in the military to murder everyone because he's an Asian who doesn't give a fuck about Whites.

As far as the best Dem candidate based on policy? Right now it is Elizabeth Warren, whose "wealth tax" idea is the net worth tax I've tried to explain for years. Unless the rich are directly taxed from their bank accounts, then this country is doomed to bankruptcy and civil war.

The only possible way to survive the coming economic storm is if rich fucks are actually taxed to pay for stuff. Otherwise this country is going down the tubes very quickly.

You didn't really talk about why a VAT would cause a 300% price in the US when it hasn't in other places, you just kind of said it. Not a lot to talk about.

You don't understand, Sambro.

Samseau's grand plan for the redemption of Red America is 30 years of falling at the altar of the GOP while back-to-back Democrat regimes rape the nation, the primary difference being that he doesn't want poor white Americans to get $1000 bucks a month in the meanwhile.

Instead he wants Elizabeth Warren to tax the wealthy and spend that money on presumably whatever the Democrats are apt to spend it on.

Fair bet?

Not white Americans.

Don't you understand the genius of that?

I know a bunch of RVF'ers made out like bandits betting on Trump in 2016.

Market for Democrat nominees is absolutely fascinating:

That's a very tight spread between Yang, Beto and Harris. One or two right appearances for Yang (when is CNN going to have a Yang town hall?) - and he could be beating both Beto and Harris in the prediction markets.

The fact that a guy named "Pete Butt-gig" is outpolling Warren should tell you that the prediction markets are a little out of whack this time.

VAT taxes have never been used to support a 20 trillion+ UBI scheme before, that's why you haven't seen it. But, stuff in VAT countries are indeed far more expensive than in America to the tune of anywhere from 20-30% more with just 3-5% VAT tax (due to its compounding effect across industries as costs are passed to consumers).

For the same reason as a guy who said you could keep your doctor if you like your doctor ended up raising medical costs between 100-300%.

Why the fuck should anyone trust this Yang guy based on words alone? Might as well as trust Warren based on words alone (I trust neither).

The nation is gonna get raped no matter what, none of the Dems ever keep their promises, it doesn't matter which one of them get elected. This should be obvious.

Lots of people will die, no matter what, and our entire civilization is going into a dark age. We were built upon the rock of Christ and have become unmoored, now comes the rain and floods to wash away the detritus until things are clean again and the mustard seed can be replanted in fertile ground.

Being part of the GOP is my best guess to try and be a part of the mustard seed. People may not like this answer but sadly we are not left with many choices right now.

VAT countries are 20-30% more expensive than pricey-as-fuck America? What are you talking about? Most countries in the world are VAT.
I am, as of this moment, in a VAT country where stuff is cheaper than it is in America. I could go into the hotel elevator, go down to the lobby, and buy stuff from the vending machine for like 50-70% of the price of what it costs in the US, including the VAT.

For the same reason as a guy who said you could keep your doctor if you like your doctor ended up raising medical costs between 100-300%.

Why the fuck should anyone trust this Yang guy based on words alone? Might as well as trust Warren based on words alone (I trust neither).

I've laid out the idea that Yang is an elite reaction to the thread of white radicalism in detail in this thread, and it has nothing to do with "words alone". Are you reading the posts other people make in this thread?

RE: The Andrew Yang thread
If nothing else, Yang has enormous potential as a wreckingball candidate similar to Trump in 2015. Remember those days? The Republicans were all set to have another run-of-the-mill primary where the candidates would all mouth the same tired platitudes about "muh free markets" and "American values" and which would inevitably end with the Jeb Bush coronation. But then Trump descended his golden escalator and blew the entire thing to pieces. Yang could perform a similar function within the Democratic party. The establishment is clearly trying to set up Kamala Harris as their Hillary/Jeb candidate of inevitability, and the rest of the candidates are just going to play the standard left-wing game and try to out-virtue signal one another on the issues. But Yang can come in and totally change the debate. While the other candidates are getting lost in the weeds trying to one-up each other on identity politics, Yang's economic populist message will resonate strongly and suck up a lot of oxygen in the room. If the young activist wing of the party (i.e. the 2016 Bernie crowd) latches on to him in a big way it's going to cause serious disarray on the left.

From a practical perspective there are serious concerns about the actual implementation of UBI, but supporting Yang has no downside at this point. At the very least doing so pushes some important issues into the discussion and serves to fracture and weaken the power base on the left. If he gains serious traction the most likely outcome is the DNC conspiring to destroy his candidacy and pissing off a huge number of young white leftists in the process, who then don't vote in the general election and many of whom become more open to populist nationalism after getting burned by the DNC and the identity politics monster.

If you agree it's inevitable then Black Knight's arguments make total sense. The best chance for surviving this dark age is by (1) accelerationism causing this crash to happen whilst you're young and fit rather than old and weak, (2) YangBux to help fund your own safety measures and that of separatist communities.

RE: The Andrew Yang thread
The thing is with increasing automation most people just become useless eaters/consumers. If we're not going to have some kind of cataclysm to kill off the useless 80% then something else has to be done.

As long as they've got enough to eat, and are able to amuse themselves with drugs, vidya, porn, vr, what have you, then things are fine.

If they don't have that, then the times get exciting.

UBI is really something that will have to come about when we're nearly post-scarcity. We're not there, yet. If we could open up some new frontiers (Mars, Luna, asteroid belt, moons of Jupiter) that'd be even better. Then the people that don't want to spend their lives on the dole can ship out to find their fortune, or become corp slaves, depending on timeline.

As for Yang himself, isn't this basically just one of the failure states of actual democracy? It doesn't take long for the politicians to realize that all they have to do is promise the idiots free shit. Yang's just exploiting that design feature/bug of democracy. The plebes are voting to get their free shit.

Not sure why everyone is so concerned with VAT.

It's quite obviously a consumer tax, but you have the option of grading it, so that necessary goods like foods and electricity are taxed less.

Overall, I do not like VAT taxation and I think it fucks over low income earners the most. It's popular with economists and math types (like Yang), because it's easy to implement. Once you have a VAT rate, it's easy to get more money coming in through taxes.

It also adds a lot of paper work for small businesses, so yeah, VAT is not a great idea imo. UBI should be funded by a Tobin tax on financial speculation.

The problem being that if you do that, you immediately can forget about it supposedly being a "fair" tax for "all". It becomes the standard tax: hobbled against particular left and right Sacred Cows, so the middle class takes all the shit once again. Once more: look at what the VAT is excluded from applying to, across the entire world where it's implemented, and you begin to see where power really lies in Western democracies.

The only truly fair tax is the oldest and least popular one for both the average moron and the average politician: the poll tax, or head tax. Live in a country, pay a certain amount to be there, no exceptions, no budget going higher than the head tax, no deficit loans. As said it's not popular to the average moron because it's a higher per-head payment that the salami slice and ineffective bullshit of a VAT, and it's unpopular to the average politician because it cuts dead any capacity they have to promise free shit to people: because any promise they make is immediately apparent from how much it raises the individual head tax.

Paracelsus, it's helpful to think of UBI as the poll tax system applied on welfare, as it basically nullifies the unfair imbalances of the current welfare system, which is a glorified system of money transfer from the middle class to assisted minorities.

Actually, Buttigieg and Yang are the two dark horse candidates. Buttigieg is a gay version of Obama, the globohomo anointed trojan horse candidate, he's been getting tons of favorable coverage in the popular media. He's a hardcore globohomo ideologue posing as an honest patriotic outsider. He's the most dangerous candidate of all.

I know a lot about him because E. Michael Jones has covered him well, both of them being from South Bend and Jones' son being his classmate at Harvard IIRC. Buttigieg is the mayor of South Bend, he run as a moderate patriot and only came out as a gay radical after he had won.
