There's also a lot of environmental toxins (like mycotoxins from mold) because of the high temps combined with the humidity and rain. You get that musty smell wherever you go. Like Southern Florida x10. I don't know if caucasian people are able to handle the climate in SE Asia in general.

However, most people will not go that far so here's a simple thing you can do.

When you buy bottled water make sure it is high-quality artesian water or at least spring water. Avoid water that is reverse osmosis or distilled. Not only for drinking as this water is "dead" but also for washing your vegetables and cooking.

While boiling water is not a bad option it still doesn't protect you completely as many pathogens can still live and thrive in this acidic environments.

Cooking you food with the aforementioned filtration system of water or bottled water with spices is good to boost the immune system. Clove, oregano, turmeric, and the list goes on. Also buying the oils and using them for aromatherapy and diffusing can combat the airborne shit in your rooms and outside.

You will be amazed at how much better you feel simply by inhaling these powerful oils throughout the day or in your room with Aircon. Me personally I opt for rooms without Aircon and prefer the natural air or windows open but they challenge of the pesky bloodsuckers applies so better have a net over them. This was my biggest annoyance in CDMX.

Also as it is noted some street food is better than others. Most people don't know this but pork, shrimp and lobster(the cockroach of the sea) are some of the worst foods to ingest in the western world and let alone the 3rd world. Yes on one end the food may be cleaner because it avoids the plight of GMO's and man-made diets but the conditions are other things to be said.

But above all pork and shrimp are garbage dumpsters and will literally ingest anything in sight. The shrimps absorb all the toxins in the water and the pigs eat everything in sight. It sure tastes good but boy does your body go into "toxic shock" I can always tell immediately once I have eaten some pork. Thank god my body sends signals that this is foreign and not to be eaten.

I've had food from vendors all over South East Asia and the only times I've gotten sick was from guesthouses and supermarkets.

The number one cause of disease in SEA, I've found to be the airplane ride (never touch anything, don't touch your face) and making out with girls with questionable morals.

I do the same, the tray in a plane is dirtier than the toilet!

Neti Pot:
Also, try washing your nose with a Neti Pot every evening. It flushes out the viruses/ bacteria. I live in Asia for 10+ years and also have a weak immune system but have had less colds since I started doing this a few years back.

Aircon:
Switching between super cold and super hot can be taxing on your immune system. Always have a sweater with you and maybe avoid super cold bars/ restaurants (some countries are worse than others on this).

Sleep:
Sleep more and get quality sleep (no noise or light). That's probably the best thing you can do. I know easy to say but hard to do but still.

I mean, sorry, but this isn’t rocket science. You’re spending time in a third world continent. You get what you pay for when you go to these kind of places in SE Asia, Africa, South America, etc. They’re dirt cheap for a reason. It would be equivalent to studying 20 mins for an exam, then being surprised once you end up getting a D on said exam.

I would advice to take your own medication with you. And some extra for emergencies. Never had any problems with customs, if you want to be 100% sure take a doctor´s declaration with you.
Quality in different countries can vary a lot, so better stay to the medication you are used to.

The conclusion in the ncbi article linked clearly states though in the conclusion that “The evidence for the safety and effectiveness of vaccines routinely given to children and adults in the Unites States is overwhelmingly favorable.”

Honestly as someone in the medical field theres no giant conspiracy theory with vaccines. i get it if u or ur children dont want to be vaccinated but no need to spread rumors/misinformation regarding them. U have a better chance of developing liver cancer from tylenol than you do of getting random diseases from vaccines

I'm fairly libertarian socially so I'm all for letting idiots hurt themselves generally, if they want to do so. But the problem for wider society with the AntiVaccers is when we lose herd immunity thanks to them not believing in science. Look at how measles is rising from the grave these days.

If you live in SEA or South and Central America for any amount of time, chances are you'll live in a place with a kitchen and do a lot of your own cooking. Be aware, that even if you buy canned or packaged foods that you think are safe, they might not be. Almost everything is laced with MSG to "enhance" the flavour. Most countries haven't banned it yet. Even products that are made in the USA are made specifically "for export", and are made to lesser standards.

Some of the effects of msg are Headaches. Nausea. Dizziness. Rapid or irregular heartbeat. Flushing or excessive sweating. Skin rash. Most Europeans and North Americans have never consumed it before. Always read the label when you buy products, there are usually MSG free alternatives.

Restaurants that appear to be safe because they look more upscale often have kitchens that are just as filthy as the local empanada bodegas. Appearances can be deceiving. I once had a rat plop out of a large wooden pirate carving a few feet away from me at one of the best rated tripadvisor restaurants in town. I just left, never went back, and never went back to the restaurant that replaced it, and the one thereafter.

Certain streetfoods are OK, and certain ones are bound to give you the shits. My rule of thumb is that if I can recognize what type of meat it is, and can see it blazing over fire at a degree that is bound to kill all germs, then it's good with me. Dodgy hotdogs and anything slathered in sauce is off limits. The sauce is a breeding ground for everything. You can't know where it came from.

Keep an eye on the types of rice you buy. The Chinese have been caught exporting rice with plastic beads in it. No joke, not a conspiracy theory. I've seen some myself.

An acquaintance in Guatemala became very ill a number of years ago, and when he went back to the States he was diagnosed with formaldehyde poisoning.

Believe it or not, this isn't just an issue with Chinese beer, it's been found in soft drinks all over the world as well. Don't assume everything is up to the standards you would think. There's no need to drink sodas and dodgy beers anyway.

Be very conscious of the time you spend in the sun. This can wear your body down gradually.

Don't shares roaches with hippies, backpackers or South African surfers around hostels. If you do have to borrow someone's bong, clean it thoroughly with rubbing alcohol. These types of people are festering petri dishes of plagues that they spread around the world.

If you like Barriada hookups, don't be surprised if you bring a bug or two home with you. Unfortunately what transpires in the barriada doesn't necessarily stay in the barriada.

If you're feeling unmotivated, low and sniffly with an upset tummy, you could very well have worms or parasites. There are some decent over the counter (in most places) medication that will absolutely flush your system. You'll feel groggy for a day or two, but gradually you'll start feeling better than ever.

There's simple things people can do to boost their immune system gradually as they adopt to a new climate.
I boil a pot of shredded ginger along with cut up cloves of garlic. I usually put a couple of green tea bags in. I strain it into a jug and let cool to room temperature. A jug usually lasts me 2 days. Drink a glass of this on an empty stomach first thing in the morning along with a glass of freshly squeezed lime and room temperature water. It does wonders for your stomach and your immune system. Unless, of course, you are allergic to garlic, ginger, or lemon. In that case, I wouldn't recommend this.

After I tested high in lead, I found this out the hard way myself in regard to turmeric. You try your best to eat healthy only to have third-world scumbags adulterate the food supply for profit. Always buy organic turmeric. BTW: arsenic is also a problem with rice. Google it.
