My favourite videos to watch are hockey parent fights because it reminds me of my childhood when some of the rougher parents would show up to the rink drunk them start yelling at refs, coaches and other parents. I should have kids just so I can do that.

Most of those videos were taken at various Walmart’s. It’s not a race thing, it’s a class thing. I find it kind of sad to be honest, as I bet many of those people are employed and have to at least spend part of their days the majority of the week pretending to be decent human beings. And for what? Disposable consumer goods that will be rendered obsolete by the next shiny gadget in a year or two.

I tend to agree that it’s a form of cultural subversion. Traditionally thanksgiving on its own was a distinctly American holiday. Now it’s like a pregame show for mass consumerism. Eat a big meal so you’ll have the energy to leave early so you can go wait outside Best Buy or Walmart to get a $200 Xbox. With a bunch of motherfuckers who are doing the same exact thing.

What I often wonder is how many are buying shit for other people, and how many are buying for themselves? Not that it matters much. I just find something about it very pathetic. Well fed people fighting over toys and trinkets and looking no different than starving people in the 3rd world fighting over a bag of UN relief rice.

Thanksgiving: Ostensibly a day specially set aside to celebrate an appreciation of all the shit you have. Immediately followed by Black Friday a day set aside dedicated to getting more shit



Im in Prague and there are Black Friday sales signs in store windows.

One of my uncles is a hockey dad... a girl-hockey dad x2. My cousins aren't savages (except towards each other at home–one is 14 and the other is ten), but my uncle is becoming one of "those guys" at their games, and sometimes even their practices.
