...Do you think he's wrong about how this debate would play out?

I don't think he's wrong, and it's not just the defense budget handing out corporate welfare like missile defense sites in Eastern Europe, boondoggle airplane parts costing $$$, and constant uniform changes. There have been some truly insane multi-billion dollar contracts given out for Iraq and Afghanistan. The scope of private contracting for intelligence and surveillance functions is scary.

The American economy and government have been rigged by lobbyists to funnel money to crony corporations.

Example: I read that the drug which can prevent catching the HIV virus before exposure was developed with something like $100 million in US government research money. Outside the USA, it's sold generically for like $100 per years supply.
Inside the USA, somehow one company, Gilead, controls the patent and it costs $2000 per MONTH.
https://www.latimes.com/business/la-fi-g...story.html

Then you get into the Federal Reserve and bank bailouts, which shoveled money to the top 1%.

Spending a lot of time in Europe has opened my eyes about how fucked up the US is in managing tax policy, regulation, and spending for the general welfare.

How is it that Spain (GDP per capita around $34k per year) crushes the USA (GDP per capita around $54k per year) in measures like access to health care, public transportation, safety? You don't see a bunch of walking dead in Spanish cities the way you do in US cities, nor are they locking up so much of their population.
You can say the same thing about Germany, France, Netherlands, Italy.

Life isn't a desperate struggle for the bottom 70% who have to fight health insurance companies or go bankrupt because of illness and work like donkeys with no vacations.

Bullshitters like Shapiro have been trying to frighten the low-information types into voting against their own interests for years by equating universal health care plans with Stalinist gulags, and not attacking Country X as "appeasement of a new Hitler," but people are waking up.

Huh...
Perhaps the Justice Democrats are not all that smart after-all if they can't even secure her base of operations...

‘Her heart is not in The Bronx’: Ocasio-Cortez’s constituents turn against her

Amid her zeal to save the world with the Green New Deal, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has ignored residents in her own Bronx back yard.
“I thought AOC would be our savior, but that’s not the case,” complained Roxanne Delgado, a local activist who said she has tried for months to get in touch with the congresswoman for help saving an animal shelter and to clean up parks in the district.
...
Another Bronx constituent told a community gathering last month that they needed Ocasio-Cortez for a sitdown with post-office officials to sort out difficulties he was having with mail delivery.
“I want AOC or a representative from AOC to be there,” Anthony Vitaliano, a former cop and Community Board 11 member, said at a Feb. 28 board meeting.
Vitaliano, 78, also wants Ocasio-Cortez to pressure Amtrak to clean up graffiti at property it owns on Tremont Avenue.
...
Vitaliano told The Post: “She has to address these local issues. Her district is everywhere else in the US. Her heart is not in The Bronx.”
By contrast, he said, residents’ needs received much more attention under Rep. Joe Crowley, whom Ocasio-Cortez unseated in a surprise primary upset last year.
The longtime congressman’s Bronx district representative, Thomas Messina, regularly attended community board meetings, according to Vitaliano.
“Tommy cared about us,” Vitaliano said.
...
And although a Bronx community rep for Ocasio-Cortez visited the graffiti site, nothing has happened, he said.
Meanwhile, Delgado noted the animal-shelter site was spared — thanks to help from the City Council and the mayor’s office.
Making access all the more challenging for her constituents, Ocasio-Cortez has yet to open an office in The Bronx.

AOC has only been in DC a couple of months, nowhere near enough time for her constituents to turn against her on local issues, this is a bit of a smear campaign.

The NY Post is a Murdoch paper, this is a symptom of them trying to keep the new young brown DC girls in check, getting Omar and the others back into the AIPAC flock. See Corbyn in the UK.

Granted the concerns detailed by her supposed constituents are rather small scale (I for one would consider graffiti to be very much a local issue).
As she did sweep into Congress with so much hype & so much attention.
Her constituents may have (foolishly) expected great things from her.
Yet in all reality, she has not had a single notable 'win' of any sort.

Circumstantial as it may have been, the Amazon thing was a flop.
Her Green New Dream is a laughing stock.
All the while, she's been linked or associated to a fair bit of controversy.
Oh & Trump impeachment proceedings from the DNC led Congress are no were to be seen as an added bonus.

So once again, similar to Trump, the hype & expectation may quickly be turning to disappointment.
Greater the rise, greater the fall...?

Plus, if "Alex from the Bronx" is deemed to be swanning off to her ivory tower in D.C. & forgetting her supposed fellow folk, that won't help her either.

Then again, at the end of the day. If there is no viable opposition to her in the NY14 district come the next election, then she'll probably retain her position by mere default.

CC, just out of curiousity, why are you so concerned with a local American politician when you live on the other side of the world?

Trump I get, but this?

The messenger is not important. Opposing the Soycialist narrative is more important.

Other than that. Australian politics is usually rather boring. Even Brexit is quite the bore at the moment.

More to the point everything we get is downstream from you guys.

Our politics are virtually irrelevant. The collapse of America into anarchy or totalitarianism is just about the only relevant issue for us. Even the fate of the EU is of lesser importance. To be fair we should probably be paying a lot more attention to Chinese politics but I can't remember any of their names for more than 30 seconds at a time.

We're not "opposing" anything here. This is just a forum where we shoot the shit without taking any real risks.

If anything, you're unwittingly helping out her cause by posting funny memes and using the oh-so-clever "soycialist".

Chinese politics are not great. Ping is ramping up fascist style policies and rapidly implementing a full blown police state in China while also ramping up Propaganda against foreigners.

If I ever meet her in a private fundraiser party, you bet I'll do my best to game her.

Why would you be at her fundraiser? You would probably have to pay a few grand for a plate of food

That, or there would be no food on the plate because socialism never works!

Or, more accurately, there would be a long line for the food, and then the event organizer would announce that the food ran out, but tomorrow, provided that you're willing to pay another fee for another fundraiser, there will be a new food line, and there will be a better guarantee of food this time, but not 100 percent for sure.

By that line of thinking. That this forum is not very influential in the grand scheme of things.
My posts don't do her any favours what so ever.

Regardless, I'm inclined to say her inherent flaws & failings are doing far more to harm her own 'brand' than anything else.

The way AOC glares at this dude makes me think she was legitimately manhandled by some white guy at some point in her life. Hence her rage.

Can't wait for the eventual porn of that.

Same here. My dad pointed this out to me when I was a teenager. Pissed me off at the time, as a Canadian Patriot - but it's true. What happens in America moves the world.

It's the opposite, every night she's going home to a ginger soyboy that gently makes love to her while sobbing instead of choking the shit out of her, tying up her tits and slapping them around, and then blasting a load on her face.
