Does anyone have any pets? I'm thinking about getting a dog to help me relax when I'm home and to keep an eye on things when I'm gone. I might have to create a "dog game" thread once I work on that at some parks. Used to have a miniature schnauzer for a few years until I gave him to my grandparents where he lived until he was 12. That was such a good dog and I still miss him lol. Its amazing how an animal can make you feel better when you're in a shitty mood.

I firmly believe that pets can increase longevity in humans and cure depression. Boredom for sure.

I love my dog, and I do like 1-2 month foster care for street dogs before they get someone to adopt them. Its great, gives me a lot of happiness, and its nice company.

However unless you have a nice backyard, a decent amount of money, and things setup so that you can get your dog taken care of at a moments noticed I don't recommend it. It sucks not being able to take a spontaneous trip somewhere or sleep over someones place because I have to get to my apartment and walk my dog.

If you have a good dog, it will limit your freedom. You won't be able to travel as often, because you don't want to (leave your dog).

My dog is best wing man ever. I even read somewhere that women are 3x more likely to give you phone number if you have a dog. I met so many hot chicks who'd stop me on the street to meet my dog. Meet girls every day at the dog park, on hiking trails, etc.

Of course, don't get a dog just to get laid or to solve your problems. If you have problems, a dog won't fix them.

A dog will dramatically enhance your life, if you're a dog person.

Yeah, I find myself heading straight home to walk my dog, so he won't have to hold his crap for hours on end. And If I'm not working he's running errands with me.

I have a small dog, a Dobberman Pinscher, female. I love her she's the shit, but I wish I had a bigger dog, I always wanted a German Shepherd so bad.

I have a great cat.

Loves people. Loves me. And I can leave for business for a few days, leave out food, and water, and she's fine. Any longer, I have the neighbor's kid come in.

After I fuck the babe of the moment, and the bed is quiet, and the babe is cuddling with me, the cat comes up onto the be, walks up, and lies down next to me or, sometimes, lies on my chest.

The babes LOVE it. They think, "Oh, my, such a sensitive soul!!"

Dog +:

- A friendly dog is the best wingman out there; girls love dogs and dogs never get approach anxiety. A cute dog sniffing a girl's box is a surprisingly solid opener.

- Companionship. My dog is a preferable companion to...a very surprisingly high number of women that have been in my life. He can sit still, he doesn't want to watch some stupid reality show, he doesn't drink my liquor and he knows when to shut up. Only thing most women have is that I can fuck them and they can grab beer and smokes on the way to my place.

- Unconditional love. this is why women get dogs, because a dog is the only thing that can love unconditionally. For example, I only raise my hand to my dog in the most egregious of offenses, like last month when I was having some friends over for a meeting and session, I went out and got four thick, immaculate slices of Angus, marinaded them overnight and then left them on the counter to reach out to get the mail. I come back and the plate is broken on the floor, two steaks are gone and my dog runs away with his tail between his legs. I gave him a good smack to the face and a solid kick in the ass. I then need to go out and drop a next $60 on four more steaks before my people arrived...and guess who was greeting me, tail wagging at the door when I returned?

- Security. This is a game forum, so in our line of work we're bound to attract a few crazy ones, and some of us (G) are bound to attract some crazy attention. A dog, with his super hearing and sense of smell, will know if someone is creeping around your pad minutes before you do, and those minutes can be all the difference you need.

Dog -:

- The cost. Last year, after food, toys, vet bills (chronic ear problems, checkup, Heartworm) and the carpet-steamer I had to rent when my dog had the shits, was about $955.

That's three nights in a suite at the Bellagio...not some wack little two-bed room your company sprung for that you need to share with Bob from Accounting who has no game, a suite...1000+ square feet, separate bedrooms and a lounge area that you can actually lounge in.

- Training. If you get a dog, you need to be around to train him and discipline him constantly in the first three months you have him, otherwise it's going to pick up some bad habits that are almost impossible to correct in later life. This is why I always advise getting a puppy; I understand the function of the SPCA and admire their ethos, but if you get a dog that someone else already owned, their training is already imprinted in the dog's mind, and it takes time to undo all of their fuckups.

- Freedom. Have dog? Prepare to give up some of your freedom. I know so many people that want to get a dog and do get dogs when really they shouldn't. If you aren't prepared to have a kid, you probably aren't prepared to get a dog. Let's run it down.

- Runs and walks - If you have an athletic or sporting breed (and if you're a dude and you're getting a Yorkie or a Chihuahua or a Bichon or something, man card, now), they need to be walked for at least 45 minutes a day to avoid getting fat. 45 minutes a day doesn't sound like much, right? That's more than 5 hours a week, and as I said, for athletic breeds (Labs, German Shepherds, Dobermans) that's baseline.

- Travel. You travel, you need to either board (and it's a racket...lots of them push upwards of $50 per dog per day) or have someone you can trust (operative word - trust) who is competent to housesit and watch the dog.

I went to a shelter yesterday and applied for an Australian Shepherd mix. I hope I get him! He's a good match for me and all the girls at the shelter love him

Be careful with them. Those dogs like to herd........I mean HAVE to herd!

If you are not home a lot and run him out steady that would be a terrible choice.

I have a Choco Lab. He's off at the house but get him near water? Look out!

I happened to realise that Houston has been complaining a lot about not being able to relax in these threads... any luck with the buddhist temple?

A question for you guys: is it possible to to be a traveller / nomad with a dog? I don't find it feasible. A pet can be great, but I can't see myself being stationary long enough to properly raise and care for a dog.... as much as I'd like to.

Not even mentioning the costs... how much does it costs you guys?
