RE: Would You Rather: Ukraine or Belarus?
I think Ukraine has the has the same effect as lots of other countries for a western foreigner.
In SEA for example I get tired of the pollution, the insane traffic the sometimes rude people. This can be ignored for a few months but if I stay longer there without leaving the country I start to get annoyed by these mostly little things.

For Ukraine these examples also exist. A few which annoy me are that in summer draught beers are often not cold enough, the starters in a restaurant arrive after a main dish, Uber drivers are unfriendly and only swear at other drivers, winters are depressing as fuck... I know these are mostly first world problems but they get annoying in the long run. As much as I love Ukraine three months are the maximum I can stay. Then I need a month outside somewhere in the west.

As for apartments. Western style apartments existing but in Kiev you pay a premium for them. I am lucky I can always get back to the same apartment for the same price but if you dont want a Sowjet style apartment u should calculate at least €1000 a months.

As for the night clubs you mentioned (with the exception of Sorry Babushka) these clubs are well known by foreigners who are willing to go the P4P route. Everyone pretty much knows this. There are plenty of other great bars and clubs which are not mentioned here on the forums and where you can have a blast. The only problem with these clubs and bars is the fact that they are only busy on Fridays and Saturdays. If you want some kind of party during the week places like Shooters or Carribean are the only places where it might be some kind of busy but then you can obviously expect what kind of girls u will meet there. The Bar was really good four years ago when it opened. Especially there in the first floor in the private area and there was still Decadance in Arena too which was also a great place. Nowadays Arena is not worth to visit anymore.

As far as western conviences I will give a few examples of what you’re dealing with on a daily basis.

I was doing a heavy night of drinking and wanted a get a few aspirins at the local late night mini market and of course you can only get them at the pharmacy (аптека) which of course isn’t open late night.

Another example I wanted to go watch a new movie that came out but there are no English subtitles and on top of that the movies are in Ukrainian.

The apartments are absolute shit in Ukraine, most of them don’t even have Hot water tanks that work. Also the heat during the winter doesn’t even work half the time because the heat is controlled by the local government or the heating pipes are so old they barely work. Also most buildings don’t even have elevators and none of the apartments have clothes dryers. So your clothes always wrinkled unless you want to spend hours ironing them.

And then they have the nerve to charge you 1500 a month rent for this shitty apartment.

and one other thing I wanted to mention is the nightlife in Kiev, which is pretty much garbage.

I won’t go into the details but take my word for it none of the options are worth it.

Anyways wanted to add to my post with some specifics, Hope this helps.

First off out gaming other guys is not a location specific pursuit. If you can't score in the West you will not score in the East. That's not a Ukraine problem. That's a personal problem. Also if you speak basic Russian you'll be a step above pretty much 90% of your non EE competition.

There are 24 hour pharmacies (аптека) google them they exist. On top of that just buy your medications and have them at your place so you don't have to deal with looking for one. Most normal travelers have the standard medications on them. If you're traveling without that's pure inexperience.

If you want to watch movies on the big screen a lot of theaters have English movie nights. We even have these nights in Kharkov otherwise you can watch any new movie online on your computer in your apartment.

I don't know where you're finding apartments but if you're paying $1500 a month and have no hot water that's your own stupidity.

I've had friends that have never been here and have booked their own places to visit me without even asking me anything other than areas to book places in. They never had hot water issues or stayed in dumps. You should inspect your flat before you hand over cash and that includes checking hot water and general amenities.

Side Tip: To long term rentals to avoid scams or coming home to a random family in your place is once you secure a place change out the dead bolt or door lock once you rent it. You can change it back after and give the landlord their regular key back. These scams do happen occasionally to foreigners. If you don't know how to change a lock yourself you might as well give yourself a female name but in the case you don't there are these guys you can hire at the local hardware store and for 10 - 15 bucks they'll come do it for you when they get off of work.

Also Ukraine is a barter culture, no one pays the first price put on the table. That goes for pretty much anywhere in the EE. If you can't barter in Russian then bust out your phone with google translate and currency converter and start low to see what you can get.

I know a busted old Scottish drunk that pays less than 700 euro a month to live in a fully renovated 1 bedroom flat with both a washer and the elusive Ukrainian dryer that is walking distance to Podil in Kyiv.

$1500 per month is fucking insane. When I lived in Kyiv which was also pre, during and after Euromaiden I was paying close to $2000 a month to live in a 2 story, 3 bedroom upscale flat overlooking Independence Sq with a semi-private roof deck. That same place rents now for around $2500 per month.

I don't mean to come across like I'm shitting on you and I'm not but you sound like an inexperienced traveler or at least inexperienced in Ukraine.

The things you're complaining about are really petty and easily solvable.

Also I have enjoyed reading some of your other post peter for the record.

Obviously we are on two different pages here about what you’re willing to put up with vs what I am willing to put up with..petty or not petty I value different things then you do

And I forgot to mention the new visa laws in effect make it more difficult for long term stays past 3 months

I can speak perfect English but only very-very basic Russian (not conversational yet) and plan to master that over the course of a few years.

Maybe I'm missing something here, but I'm gonna agree with nola: Why are you not looking at options in Russia directly - if you really want to learn "Russian Language and Culture"? A long-term stay like that, Russia is stable and isn't in the middle of some political crisis every 5 minutes like Ukraine. I've spent time living in Ukraine and it didn't really impact me at all, but I wasn't talking about a complete bachelors degree in Russian. Not only that, you will get essentially the same women if you look into a University city in Russia.

As for the height issue, I'm in the same range as you and there is plenty of shorter women in Ukraine if that is what you want. They aren't going to be concerned with your height if you game anyway.

Where are you living now that meets you standards.? also what is your standard of value?

Also no issues with changing laws here for Americans at least. It's not difficult to stay more than 3 months.

Poland is at about the right level right now. The prices are still pretty low, food is getting much better, and you can go to local markets and get just about anything.

As for the women, yeah the quality is not there as much as Ukraine, but girls are much more sexual and willing to talk.

Plus the Visa Status for Americans is 90 days in and one day out and resets the clock. I am sure part of the reason why Roosh stays there and not Ukraine.

On Clubs: Ukraine vets should elaborate more on this, clubs are where you take girls not meet them. If I go to a club I specifically go to get loaded and pay the staff to allow me to make an ass of myself how ever I see fit that night so long as it does not involve fighting. If fighting becomes the course at some point just grease up the security and ask them where outside they'ed prefer you to throw down. Manners are absolutely important in my book.

Also fuck the Caribbean Club, Sorry Babushka, Shooters and Sky Bar these Kiev clubs have no business being mentioned on this forum, these are P4P/Simi-pro joints or for guys who like to play sponsorship game.

Also The Bar falls somewhere in there. Last time I went to The Bar I almost ended up knifing a Azerbaijani fag in the smoking lounge who came in trying to start a fight with myself and some students I was hanging with. Busted expats love that fucking place for some reason.

Guys who like night game should be going to Karaoke Bars with their newly minted basic Russian skills.

All clubs in Kiev largely suck these days. Karaoke nights can be good, the girls don't have that much free cash to spend on clubs so they save it for birthdays, wedding parties and karaoke.

The Bar is not good, used to be a bit better when it first opened. Another place where the foreigners love to go is Alchemist, I refuse to go to the place, full of foreign dorks

You have to watch out for Azerbaijanis they can be dangerous, same goes for Moroccans.

I have stayed in umpteen apartments in this country, my personal checklist is firstly check the wifi while the landlady is there, then I check the hot water, if it's not hot then it's because they are being cheap as usual and have turned down the thermostat, then I check the bed, and then when she's gone I will look around for hidden cameras.

Lock idea is good if you are taking long term apartments, I know of at least a couple of people who have had their places robbed.

I would disagree with Ukraine being a haggling location, I would say the opposite are true, Ukrainians are probably the stingiest people I have ever met, for normal long term apartments they would rather the place stayed empty for 6 months then drop the rent price by 20 eur a month. Airbnb they are a bit more flexible seeing as they are renting for at least double the normal rate anyway

With regard to having a dryer in the apartment I often have to dry my clothes with a hairdryer Smile

RE: Would You Rather: Ukraine or Belarus?
I agree that there's not much haggling for apartments. I've done it, but it's the exception not the rule.

Airbnb rates are inflated, so it's worth messaging with a lower offer if you're staying more than a week or so, but in the busy season you can forget about it, the prices won't move.

Larger places are easier to find because most people will cram 4-6 people into a one bedroom flat than rent a two or three bedroom and that contributes to price inflation for smaller places. Agents/landlords are often surprised when I say only one person will be staying in the flat and most places have all kinds of fold-out beds and inflatable mattresses for extra people.

A week or so ago my Airbnb cancelled 4 days before I arrived, so I had to scramble for a week and move around until I found a decent place for a good price. I had to stay in some below average places that weren't renting for below average prices and I'm savvy when it comes to pricing.

I wouldn't use airbnb in Ukraine I also wouldn't expect there would be much room for negotiation on it either

Outside of short-term rental sites like https://www.dobovo.com/ which I've always been able to negotiate off of

Most locals use this site to find apartments https://www.olx.ua/list/q-apartment-for-rent/

I've seen places listed on olx also listed on AirBnb for 20 times the amount, you can also use olx for short term

I haven't used Dobovo, but OLX is full of bait and switch, there's not as many safeguards as with Airbnb. Although I did get bait and switch on Airbnb once. Airbnb you can get big discounts if you message a bunch and say "What's your best price for a month, cash" ,also to save fees you can book one day and tell them if all is ok you will pay for a month in cash

I've had one bait and switch on Dobovo but not OLX. I have heard one story from a guy that used OLX who came home after a night out to find his key no longer worked. He broke in to find his belongings missing.

I'm an advocate for changing locks in Ukraine even if I'm visiting a town and staying for a week but only because it's not hard to switch out a lock. Plus $10 bucks for a lock is nothing compared to having to replace important stuff you travel with.

Police have gotten better now about helping foreigners that have theft problems. Doesn't mean they'll get your shit back because it's usually already gone but they will arrest scammers.

I recently had a building contractor in my place that stole a bunch of identifying documents from me. I went with a local thug friend over to his home and we took care of it Ukrainian style first. After the police came they took up the slack and scared him a little bit more. The police that showed up were pretty good guys and actually seemed a bit embarrassed as they apologized for the contractors behavior and kept assuring me that this is not the way people generally behave here.

Yes you need to be careful with documents, they can use passport scans and bills to commit fraud.

I wouldn't generally trust the police though, even the "new police" I had a friend who has his apartment robbed, he went to the Police and they said that if he paid X amount of money they were pretty confident of getting his stuff back.

Surprised that someone would come to an apartment an install a lock for $10, I thought the lock would cost more than that alone

Notice I said we first went to handle it Ukrainian style. The police were invited after to participate. Mostly because his toothless wife threatened to call them if we didn't let him go.

You can buy a new lock and install it yourself, The lock should not cost more than 10 - 20 bucks. I've done it a million times here. If someone does not know how to change a lock they can hire a guy to do it for them. It literally takes less than 15 minutes to swap door locks out.

There are only 5 or 6 common types of locks they use here. Take a picture of your lock, go to the hardware store and show them the picture. Also requires one screw driver and occasionally a ball-peen hammer.

Well, if you want an hot white girl who says liberal and politically correct bullshits all the time, you can remain in the West, you save the money of the trip and you will not have the language barrier issue.

More difficult visa for Westerns doesn't mean no expats/students/tourists from not Western countries...

Great advices and posts here, definitely will be doing so.

Since from the general tone of guys talking about the nightlife in EE generally aren't that great relative to the Scandivs. Day game or meeting girls from other means will definitely be much more useful.

It's definitely help if I have an above average apartment to stay in for a deal price. I wonder a little about the college scene over there tho. If they have stuff like dorms and such, if those are a cool way to meet girls tho.

Not expecting any US-college slutty-ness or parties of that extent but just wondering about it if any guys here have an opinion about the college scene over at Ukraine/Belarus (Russia comparison too is great).

Yes you can game in around the college dorms, but usually they have Babushkas as guards, the dorms have a curfew, and if they are not there by that time they don't get in.

Imagine having your own private room in a student dorm where they ordinarily have three girls to one room.

I went to investigate at one, and it had unisex showers

Failing that you could rent a luxury apartment closeby to the hostel, it woukd make the girls squirm in their panties

I hate Kiev personally but my ex has recommended Lviv to me however Kharkov would be a better option with more opportunities, less conservative girls, fun nights and equally interesting days.

All said in done though, I would pick MSK or SPb over any provincial town in Ukraine and Belarus.

I feel really torn about Kiev. On the one hand it's a pretty unpleasant city to live in, a lot of concrete and dust and packed public transportation. On the other hand it's probably one of the great talent meccas of EE, so if you're going for the game, you can see beyond the unpleasantness of the daily hustle-bustle.
And when the weather is nice, the city gets a lot more liveable. Quite a lot of parks, hills that give you nice views, the riverbank, and of course all the dyevs getting out of their winter coats will make your head spin.

Lviv is a gorgeous city, and I wouldn't mind living there for a bit, but if you speak any Russian / want to learn Russian, it's really the wrong destination. People will literally get offended if you speak to them in Russian. But it's a student town, and I found that I really liked the cute western Ukrainian girls who study there.

Also in Western Ukraine, people often oversee Chernivtsi, which also is a former Austrian/Polish town with nice architecture. Nowhere near as nice as Lviv, and it's more remote, but it's a big student town and the talent there during term time was amazing if I remember well. You're also not far from Moldova/Transnistria/Romania if that rocks your boat.

Odessa is probably one of my favourite cities the world over. I wasn't gaming when I was there but the atmosphere and quality of life is hands down the best in Ukraine. Some forum members have been explaining that gaming is harder here due to all the high-SMV local men coming down during the season, and girls being generally more picky, but I really have no idea. The cost of living would be generally higher than in the rest of provincial Ukraine. Amazing talent though, and I would presume that the beaches make it easy to approach.

Kharkiv is a dump. If you think it's a good option I would recommend (re-)reading bang Ukraine. It may have changed a bit since Roosh was there, but some things can never change. The talent is presumably good though, and it's a good place to learn Russian. Cost level would be lower than Kiev/Odessa. But where did you get the idea that it would be less conservative girls? it seems to me that you'll find the most liberal DTF girls in Kiev and Odessa.

Crimea / Sevastopol is paradise. But it's off limit unless you get a Russian visa so I'll skip it.

If you're looking at eastern Ukraine for the language and cost level, I would recommend taking a look at Dniepropetrovsk (800k city, quite pleasant as I remember it). Krivij Rih and Zaparizjzja are dumps.

That about concludes my tour of Ukrainian cities for you. If I had the money, I would live in Odessa the whole year round, and I could very well imagine spending a couple of years there. If visas aren't an issue though, just go to Russia.

I hate Kiev personally but my ex has recommended Lviv to me however Kharkov would be a better option with more opportunities, less conservative girls, fun nights and equally interesting days.

All said in done though, I would pick MSK or SPb over any provincial town in Ukraine and Belarus.

Lvov is a pleasant city to live, although the locals are rather backward, and the girls are probably the least good in Ukraine(which is still not bad). The weather is also bad there, expect torrential thunderstorms in June almost daily.

Odessa I find is nice for a few days but overall one of my least favourite places in Ukraine, the centre really consists of one small street and primorsky boulevard, some dirty beaches with dirty water, and arguably the worst nightlife in the whole of Ukraine. With regard to visiting Kiev guys being competition, there are plenty enough people in Odessa with a lot of money any time of the year. In fact the competition used to be higher when Russian people used to come, because Odessa girls love Russia guys as they always brought plenty of rubles with them.

I haven't met many normal foreigners that live in Odessa year round, there is almost no professional reasons to live there. The Irish Bar has plenty interesting Odessa expats that's for sure

Yes Odessa girls very liberal and dtf! As long as you are liberal with the contents of your wallett.

If you think Kharkov is a dump and Dnepropetrovsk is quite pleasant then you need your eyes examined. Dnepro is bad enough, zap is ghastly. I travelled from Dnepro, to Zap, then I was going to go to Krviy Rog but I knew it could only get worse. Kharkov is much more pleasant since 2012 renovations

Although I haven't been to Crimea I dont get many glowing reports from Ukrainians or foreigners that have. The general consensus seems to be that it's expensive and the standards of restaurants and service pretty poor

I can agree with the backward comment, the western Ukrainians want to pretend they're all 'european' like but it doesn't take much scratching to get some pretty unsavoury nationalistic and antisemitic sentiments.
I didn't find the girls that bad, just a little different. It's less dizzying than the tall slim babes in the rest of Ukraine, but there was plenty of lovely petite brunettes with cute Ukrainian accents in their Russian that I certainly didn't mind looking at. Your statement is still probably true, only counting second-tier cities.

Well it's a one million city, so you can't expect a behemoth of a city, but I actually found the centre rather pleasant. The walk/cable car down to the beaches can be a bit dirty, but once you get down there you can pick which 'private' sunbed you want to use, and you get served booze right at your table, which just doesn't even exist in western Europe. I saw some guys use this as a pickup opportunity (which bitch will say no to a free cocktail right there on the beach when she doesn't have to move?). The part of the beach where I used to sit was pristine, I imagine the bar was cleaning it every day.
Not so the water, unfortunately. Nothing that stopped me from swimming, but yeah not the cleanest water ever. But it's EE guys, if you want a sterile bacteria-free experience, you should go to Scandinavia.

I can't remember the nightlife being that bad, but I was only there a week. For the same reason, I won't comment on any foreigners living there year round. My CS host at the time did (2009), but he might have been an exception. Thinking of it, he was a slightly chubby american in his 40's with a beautiful pad who kept cold-approaching (and burning) beautiful girls the whole time we were there, so he was probably ahead of the curve. For all the good it did him.

I can't comment on the mercantilism or otherwise of the local dyevs, as I was there with a girl. But the raw talent was definitely there.

I was luckily in Dnepro on a beautiful sunny day (and only 1 day before driving out to someone's dacha out of the city), but I remember it as a lot better than most eastern ukrainian cities. Some historic buildings in the centre and the river which just gives a lot of air. Also I tend to dislike flat cities, and I can remember some cool hills in Dnepro. Then again, you've obviously spent more time than me there, so I'll defer to that, but my overall impression was far better than the other cities in my eastern trip.
Kharkiv I felt was the epitome of sovietism on the scale of a million-size city. No centre to speak of, and I don't think I saw any building that was pre-1917. The distances are huge and I was ending up taking taxis all the time. This was before the renovations you're talking about though, so I hope I get to check it out again.

Zap and especially Krivij Rih are some of the saddest and most ghastly places I've ever seen in the FSU. They never got over the industrial disintegration. Krivij Rih is still producing shitloads of steel, so the mining vibe is still alive an kicking (not in a good way), but the rest of the population is basically unemployed. I would never ever set a foot back there, even if you were to get me a free introduction to the 50 hottest girls there.

Expensive? well for a sea-resort area with a huge summer season everything was dirt cheap, at least back then. Of course it's still more than most of Ukraine, but if you compare with Bulgaria, Georgia, or turkey, without mentioning Sochi, then I guess it was one of the cheapest places on the black sea. Hell even when I was in Abkhazia I paid more for accommodation, drinks and such.

Service is pretty poor like everywhere in Ukraine, but I found the crowd of (mostly Russian, even back then) youngster holidaymakers to be pretty fun.

Most importantly, I meant paradise because nature-speaking, Crimea is just perfect. Beautiful long empty beaches (if you have a car to reach them), mountains, and a pretty fucked up geography. The infrastructure is crap and the small towns and some of the coast are just overrun with hordes in the summer, but if you have a car and enough dough to rent a place a bit outside one of the coastal towns, you could spend a really pleasant summer there.
Also they make wine, which most of the time is utterly undrinkable, but if you stop at a proper wine shop they do have some nice options in the €10 range.

The talent was also much to be seen, though because the beaches were so much wider you don't get the same concentration as in Odessa. I do remember seeing some of the most beautiful women I've ever seen in Yevpatoria.

I also have a very fond memory of Sevastopol. If you like ships and harbours then you should like the city.

Again, Crimea won't be as easy nowadays as you need a Russian visa, but I would be curious to find out how it has become since the annexation. I'm assuming there isn't a single westerner around, which might be a good thing.

There are quite a few countries who give Ukraine at run for its money.

RE: Would You Rather: Ukraine or Belarus?
I think there are many countries that give Ukraine a run for it's money when it comes to the top tier, I've seen girls from places like Poland, Scandinavia, and The Balkans that couldn't be matched in Ukraine, in my eyes at least. Which brings us onto personal tastes, some guy like skinny white girls, some like black girls with big bottoms, others like 6ft blonde volleyball players etc etc. Ukraine's level of heat on the forum is not unjustified, there's an awfully high amount of talent in the country.
