Planning ahead for January/February 2019 in Central/South America. Many countries interest me- Colombia, Ecuador, Panama, Argentina, Peru, Brazil etc....but I am unsure of most affordable way to see a few countries within 3-4 weeks as airfare is much higher than teaveling within Europe, and buses/train routes can be inconvenient. I have over 150k airline miles but I noticed just a one way flight to Buenos Aires from LAX in January is 100k Delta miles. Ecuador is 50k and Lima is like 60k.

If you only got a month I suggest you keep it at one or two countries. and definitely take panama off that list

Everything panama does Colombia does better at half the price

That's too many places for 3 weeks and they are too far apart. It's like saying you are going to India, Russia, China, Vietnam, Mongolia, Cambodia and Thailand in 3 weeks. Pick two next to each other and your budget will fall in line.

Also there are tons of threads on "which country in south america should i go to" do a search.

If you end up sticking to one or two countries that border each other, perhaps use those airline miles to rent a car. Then just drive everywhere. That would be a better use of your miles than spending 50,000 miles to fly from one city to the next, and it's a million times better than the bus in Latin America, which always blasts the air conditioning way too high and makes you sick.

Most of them, and I took the bus everywhere. I remember a 36-hour bus ride from Peru to Colombia, stopping over briefly in Quito, Ecuador. I survived but the bus drivers always blast the air conditioning. Maybe to keep themselves awake? Always bring a chamarra for those bus rides, but really the best thing is to simply fly or rent a car/moto.

To me its less about Country and more about where you go, city - region based on what you are looking for. In Colombia my favourite spots were Medellin and San Andres. Cartegena is overrated, and the beaches at Santa Marta were very ok. Bogota was alright, but nothing special, too sprawling and massive a metropolis.

If you go to buenos aires, check out Palermo soho. Amazing babes.

If you only have 3-4 weeks, I'd go with one of two options:

- Colombia / Ecuador
- Ecuador / Peru

Argentina or Brazil alone would take up that entire time...they are both massive. You don't say what you are looking for...
Are you going mainly for the women? Colombia should be on the top of that list. Ecuador is just something to throw in as a side trip. Ecuador's coast (Canoa in particular) is a great place to chill out. And Cuenca up in the mountains has some good cultural stuff to see.
Peru could keep you busy for the entire time, especially with the amount of time necessary to acclimate to high altitude for Cusco and the Inca ruins.

It really depends what you want to get from your trip...see a lot of stuff, find the best women, chill the hell out, just get out of the US for a month?

I’m planning 3 months in the fall in South America, September through November. Most interested in a mini-relationship. Would I be crazy to spend the entire time in Bogota?

Spanish is beginner (Duolingo completed, but that’s it). Also considering Lima as an alternative.

Do searches for Bogota vs Lima there is plenty of info. As far as three months either would be fine as long as you like big cities. Both great for living every day life, neither good for people who want to spend all day sight seeing and doing touristy stuff.

Sounds like Buenos Aires and Argentina would meet your expectations more than anywhere else.
Maybe find a 1 month Spanish-immersion program down there and get to know the city?

I don't know which countries you guys have been in, but Mexican buses are awesome. Best bus service I've been in anywhere in the world.

Argentina would be my first choice for sure, but I am concerend about all the negative posts Ive read on here. With my limited spanish skills, it could be a disaster with the women. Which is why I am looking at Colombia where my value is higher, and there is a good percentage of women who look “mostly european” or close enough. Is this sound reasoning?

try medellin or cali over bogota.

if you take pussy out of the equation and base it on culture/food I would choose mexico.

Mexico has a very rich culture,

Colombia's is a lot weaker.
