Aside from the obvious point that it almost $2,000 more than Maschine.. That does look awesome. Reminds me of this:

I am looking for something to bridge the gap between entry level m-audio trigger finger and full blown "I make money doing this" gear.

The other appealing thing of Maschine is the learning curve. I already know ableton in and out, the MV8000 would be a whole new thing to learn.

That is awesome. Right now I am trying to make Hip Hop beats that resemble the ATL Trap sound.. think Lex Luger. I am wanting to produce/sell those around Athens/Atlanta and then eventually online.

I just cant get in to making electronica yet. I feel like I need way more practice before I want to release stuff that I am branding as my original stuff. I also am not really a Dubstep DJ and that seems to be where everyone's head is at.

Maybe the right thing to do is start remixing tracks? I just doubt that I can compete when most popular tracks are already made by world class producers. I never understood why I want to play a remix from some DJ in Wichita when the original track was made by Calvin Harris.

Since you like the dirty south style, stick with it. Buy a lot of loops , separate them out in ableton, and learn how the loops were made. Get one-shot loops and study the frequency of it. Use your "spectrum", in ableton to see the frequency of the one shot or the loop. At some point you're gong to have to figure out what makes a kick, a kick, in rap or hip hop. Mixing is extremely important unless you will always be using prepared loops. What version of ableton do you have?

I am using version 8, but I am not sure the exact. I am working with one hit vintage kits.. I just don't want to piano roll my drums in simpler, hence the idea of Maschine. I can't believe these guys use FL studio, but I guess it ads to their ghetto sound.

I am still learning to use the program better. I have a working knowledge of it, but I am getting down to the specifics.

I don't have a good hardware synth right now, so I am using NI FM8 layered via instrument rack to get my synth sounds.

Do you have any 3rd party soft synths? You don't need a hard synth these days especially for that kind of music. Lots of rap songs have a lot of arpeggiated riffs, so you might want to check these out if you don't have them already.. Refx nexus, Tone 2 gladiator, all the rob papen stuff, just to name a few. Also, check out "big fish audio" loop packs with one shot samples of hip hop and rap sounds. If you have ableton suite, you can load them in sampler and have millions of sounds to chop up. Just a suggestion.

reason 6 was released yesterday (or today for you americans) and if your a registered user you will know that you can pay what you want for the upgrade....i only paid $5 last night.....
took forever to get through though...their server was mad busy yesterday.....i had to stay up hitting refresh every few minutes till 3 am last night so i would have it today....

im gonna get stuck in today and thrash the new features....

are u speaking of midi controllers as far as keyboards, or dj controllers?., novation twitch is good for dj control, but if you are working in ableton , I would stick with the apc. For midi keyboard controllers, just about any would do and you can map any controller out in ableton.

As far as a gear list, I have a hybrid studio and set mine to maximize analog gear but work within a heavy digital domain .Here is what I work with.

1. ssl xpatch to incorporate analog gear into the daw.
elyisa alpha compressor /elyisia museq eg. All analog, not the plug in versions.
1. antelope atomic clock. ( at some point you will not want to ever use internal clocks and you will hear a tremendous difference in your effects: reverb , delay.
mics: bock 151-2 bock 141, too many neumanns, sony c-800
8 power conditioners
Monitors: 4 pairs of focals, 2 pairs equator audio .
Boards: access virus synth, roland phantom, motif.
MIc pres. Neve, manley, and empiricals.
Plug-ins: you know the deal on that.

When I copy the post from gear slutz i'll post it for sure. Since you like Reggaeton, fruity loops would be your best bet. You can get an mbox for much cheaper than 600.

What's your opinion on preamps? I record vocals regularly. I'm planning to buy either an avedis ma5 or an avalon 737. I only have the avalon as an option because it's kind of a "standard". Everyone sees one and their eyes shine.

I will sell my mic to buy a new one. I'm thinking of buying an at 4050, and then a few months down the road get a brauner or a manley, as they're $2,000+

Hey Pete,

Like the direction of the song. Definitely has some good potential. Don't know if that is you singing but it sounds good.I would suggest a few things before you release it . Try to let the vocals sound a bit more like they are in the song as opposed to riding on top of the song. By that I mean your backing vocals should sound as backing vocals as opposed to competing with the lead. Bury the lead so it sounds almost like an instrument but not too much. If you bury it a bit and then Stack/duplicate/double your vocals some more it will sound fuller but not over power the beat or the music itself.. What you are hearing in Reggaeton is not one voice but many that makes it sound very thick and luscious. Maybe put a slight auto tune on it, but not to chipmunkish. Bring drums out some more. Try also using different effects on lead like a bit of reverb(not too much just a hint) and a slight delay . Do this as well on some of the backing vocals. Use filter to make it sound like you or the other guy is far away, in a phone booth, etc... It sounds good and has direction, so its just a matter of a good mix, and master.. Good luck and let me know if you need anything else.

Just bumping as I'm curious to see what our guys here that produce music are using equipment wise.

My current set-up includes 2 x Yamaha HS8 monitors running through a shitty cheap PreSonus USB Audio-Box and a M-Audio Oxygen 49 midi keyboard.

Having used the HS8's for nearly two years now I am starting to notice quite a substantial amount of ear-fatigue and a slight ringing in the ear that passes (I'm playing just above normal conversation level and my room is as dead as I can make it at the moment)

Does anyone else have any experience with these particular monitors or anything else similar? I was using a pair of KRK Rokit RP8's before but the boomy bass they were giving in my current room was making my mixes translate terrible to other systems.
