I knew there was something evil about that Gil Gadot. Showing her true colors on Twitter, and not a moment too soon. Glad I found out about this before spending money to see "Wonder Woman." Next thing you know, she will be saying that K. Jenner is just a sad confused man in a dress, or that blind people can't see, or that amputees are missing a limb. Where does this kind of hate come from?

Nope, that's not my point. My point is he got lots of credit/fame comparing to other scientists who contributed a lot more. The reason for that is because of the media which wanted to capitalize on his condition to attract more viewers. His story can sell.

Like others have noted, his work on black holes is his main achievement, particularly his discovery of what ended up being known as 'Hawking Radiation'. But yes, his main achievement was probably as a populariser of science. He's the person most primarily responsible for us knowing what black holes even are, as general members of the public.

So you didn't answer my question and just linked to arbitrary article? you also mentioned hawking radiation which you cited as a "discovery". It is not a discovery. It is still a speculative theory that has yet to be tested. From the wikipedia page

I'm not trying to downplay the guy. He was extremely challenged and his writing had encouraged me to study physics deeper and it has enlightened me immensely. But I don't think it is right to attribute things he haven't done. His contributions to society might be huge but not to the advancement of modern physics (at least directly).

No human has ever been in or near a black hole.
No human is going to one anytime soon.
No way to verify if he is a genius or total fraud.
Way too convenient.

Nobody has been to a black hole, they've observed them from great distance, but you're right, nobody has. It's theoretical physics, so yeah, it's all theory really.

But people have been to earth, and they've been around it, not just theoretically, and filmed it for our pleasure. Yet you're most famous on here for believing the earth is flat.

Yeah. I'm not invested enough in the subject matter to do some in-depth research on your behalf. Apologies if I'm coming across as snarky, it's just I'm always suspicious of people who are overly cynical of other people's achievements, particularly when those achievements or praise aren't doing anybody any harm.
