I've always enjoyed the blog, largely because too many blogs in the self development/personal finance space are clearly catered towards the masses. I learned a lot from reading WestCoast/WSP.

The biggest takeaway for me was definitely "smile and nod". I used to have a bad habit of needing to argue with people who I thought were wrong. Thankfully, I've largely removed this habit. Nowadays, I save it for close friends who I want to help.

I've never liked the criticism that a writer is "arrogant" (Taleb gets this a lot too). Criticizing tone is low level disagreement. Who cares if they're arrogant, the important question is: are they right? If they are, who cares if they're arrogant and if they're not, who cares if they're nice? I want the dickish coach that shits on me but helps me improve.

To paraphrase some wise guy, it's only possible to be modest if you're better than others. Otherwise, you're just being honest.

There's a there's two words with different nuances:

immodesty and arrogance

I'll freely admit that the WSPs may well be immodest when it comes to finance - I don't know about it myself to say otherwise.

But their attitude on is arrogant, in my opinion. Maybe I'm just butthhurt because of what I described in an earlier post.
