Great. Just played that video and my dog went berserk at the dog scene. I think everyone in the neighborhood heard it.

Hopefully the neighbors' dogs don't go berserk as well.

Hate when that happens.

I move a book from one part of my bed to the other, the thick bedsheets go "crunch, crunch," the puppy next door whimpers, the bigger dogs after that howl and growl, the dogs in the adjacent properties get started up, and the chain just goes on.

Sometimes I wonder if me moving my book across my bed makes a sound all the way across the city.

I think it does.

RE: Dog hates my prospective business partner
Meh... I dunno. He has a lot of triggers. Certain commercials, certain songs, and mostly other dogs. If I get a worried or anxious look on my face, he flips out, but that's what he's supposed to do, so you can't really blame him.

If we're in the living room, every noise outside will set him off. If we're in my bedroom, there could be a war in the house and he won't budge. But, like you said, he just went apeshit and all the dogs in the hood started barking. I live in a high-end neighborhood and all the houses are really close together. It's kind of stifling sometimes. I think if I had to do it over again, I'd rather be house-poor and land rich instead of what I did. My house is twice as big as my yard. It kind of sucks.

I'm not a businessman; I'm a business, Man

RE: Dog hates my prospective business partner
Despite being admirably intelligent and well-behaved in many areas of life, dogs (like all animals, including some people) can still freak out and throw tantrums over random stuff. Don't read too much into it. Your dog may be capable of training to reliably sniff explosives and other physical stuff, but it's not telepathic.

Now, if this partner had been rude towards a dog (not just yours) or treated it badly, that would be a reason to worry. Animal abuse and psychopathy are strongly correlated.

I invited a possible future business partner, quite the renowned guy and expert in his specific technical discipline, to my parents house for dinner.

I did meet him twice beforehand and nothing about his behavior struck me as particularly untrustworthy. At the same time, none of his mannerisms led me to believe him to be a paragon of integrity either.

Everything went okay for the most part but my dog's behavior has still left some doubts in my mind regarding the guy.

At the risk of sounding like a total idiot, do any of you think there is something to this or am I just over thinking this?

Would like to hear some opinions.

Newbies kill me sometimes.

If you trust the dog that much, apparently far more so than your own observations, about your possible business partner then you might as well make the dog your business partner.

Well, it's not a parcel of pigs, but with enough peanut butter and imagination you may have a way out of a complicated business relationship further down the line, if it comes to it. I'd put the dog on half rations, and proceed with confidence buoyed by this discovery.

Could be something or it could be nothing.

When you do lots of meditation/contemplation you become aware of people's vibrations. But even then mostly saintly people can make errors, though you will sense highly negative folk for sure.

Difficult to say whether this was the case - besides, business is business - you don't have to like everyone you do business with. But if trusting the guy can cost you more even with all safety measures, then you should just do more due diligence about him.

I have a side business where I have to visit clients for the job. One of my clients also has a dog and the dog barked A LOT every time I came around. Now I really am not a dog person to be honest so I thought the dog kinda had a hunch I didn't like his species.

But then one day the dog also started barking to one of their guys who worked there every day ! It was his shoes... We both had shoes with a wooden heel which made more noise then a plastic heel when you walk around. Tick tock... Apparently that set the dog of... since I know that I always wear shoes with non-wooden heels when I have to pay them a visit.

So yeah... wouldn't make a decision because of the dog lol

What's a "Second Hander?" Other than what you're not...

Second-Handers

[i]Isn’t that the root of every despicable action? Not selfishness, but precisely the absence of a self. Look at them. The man who cheats and lies, but preserves a respectable front. He knows himself to be dishonest, but others think he’s honest and he derives his self-respect from that, second-hand. The man who takes credit for an achievement which is not his own. He knows himself to be mediocre, but he’s great in the eyes of others. The frustrated wretch who professes love for the inferior and clings to those less endowed, in order to establish his own superiority by comparison . . . . They’re second-handers . . . .

Quite insightful, sums up pretty much every liberal cuck I've ever come across.

RE: Dog hates my prospective business partner
A business partner is a lot like a wife; and a breakup with your business partner is nearly as devastating, both emotionally and financially.

Dogs aren't distracted by words; they read the intent. As such, they're better at picking out narcissists than we are. We go out of our way to play the civilized game, while the dog just sees the inconsistency between the friendly smile, and the predatory lizard under the surface.

Maybe it was nothing. Maybe it was just another dog in heat. But if you're famliar with your dog, and it's not excitable or particularly territorial, then I'd listen to it.

Me - I offend dog owners because their vision attack dogs love me. It's called having a clean soul.

My general advice though, would be avoid taking on a business partner in the first place. Most people are low quality these days, and the odds just aren't worth it.

Pretty sure a younger Kona was drunk driving around with the rewards of his ill-gotten Busch beers nicked of Wal Mart and nearly ran it over. When the dog jumped just in time, and barked WTF in stark disbelief, Kona drove away and shouted:

I agree with the comments on the first page, your prospective business partner is either a Terminator or possessed by a Demon.

And your own comment says you have subconscious doubts too ;

"I did meet him twice beforehand and nothing about his behavior struck me as particularly untrustworthy. At the same time, none of his mannerisms led me to believe him to be a paragon of integrity either. "

Regardless of how "Rover" feels, YOU have some doubts about the integrity of your prospective business partner. Follow the dog's and your instincts and ditch the guy before he rips you off.

That's more like it. Bottom line, OP is in China, and the great majority of people there (especially middle aged or older people) just aren't dog people, unless it's on the menu (more true of Vietnam and Korea than China), so they're going to regard your dog as a nuisance, and that feeling will be reciprocated by your pooch.

If you want to do business in China or anywhere else, you need to understand the local cultural landscape and mentality, it's just not a dog-centric culture like in most parts of the West.

When I was a teenager, our dog attacked a kid who was about 11 for no reason. About six months later, that kid stole something out of our house. I'm convinced he knew something we didn't know.

Give the guy another shot with your dog, and see what happens. If your dog doesn't like this guy, ditch him.

Dogs know. They really know.

Dogs know, unless the dog's a psycho with psycho owner (not implying anything TS). I'm a dog person, non-shady, and have had an acquaintance's German shepherd flip out on me. His owner ended up stealing a bunch of equipment from my college roommate, who's also not a shady character.

What I'm trying to say is: TS, are you sure you're not the shady psycho?

RE: Dog hates my prospective business partner
UPDATE

Talked to my father earlier today who informs me the guy in question (the one my dog hated) had his house raided by the federal police. He's under investigation for allegedly selling forged land leases and collaborating with certain banks to artificially spike up low income housing bids all over the city. This led to thousands of families not being able to put down enough money for a home and having to pay double to triple the legal rent to this same guy and the bank who outbid them.

Might have dodged a bullet.

Thanks Doge!
