1. That jacket is grim. It's very poorly lit in the photograph, so it is hard to tell much about the fabric, but for $250 you're not getting anything particularly nice anyway, so I wouldn't worry. The big runny gold check is dreadful. If my court appointed lawyer turned up in that I'd be straight back to my cell to practice picking up a bar of soap with my teeth. Noone in their right mind pays a lawyer for advice who is both flashy and badly dressed, it's guaranteed heartache. I would go for something much more sober. A well cut plain navy blazer, or dark grey will look smart without looking like you might double as a gigolo on the weekends.

2. Tom Hardy's 3 piece is nice, without being spectacular. The low cut waistcoat looks smart, it is quite a traditional 'mess kit' type arrangement. Looking immaculate NEVER looks try hard, so long as the cut is right. Tom Hardy has picked a dark and plain enough blue that the colour does not overwhelm, and so it is the overall affect that is arresting. Personally I also like a pocket watch if you can pull it off. A plain dark suit, with colour/pattern in the tie, and a detail or two in a tie pin/pocket watch/decent watch etc is a spectacular combination on the right figure. I agree that it would not be appropriate for the OP to dress like that for his work.

3. A blazer/ jacket is never a coat here in the UK. I believe the Americans call it a coat sometimes.

If you were a Laywer and showed up in that 3 piece suit, I guarantee the judge is gonna think of you as a show off and make fun of you afterwards with his assistant.

The actual laywers usually show up with badly fitted, chequered suits, shoes with plastic soles, bad haircuts, overweight etc. They are professionals. This aint Suits.

Also, going to a date all suited up in that Tom Hardy three piece will, unless ure in Manhattan, probably even then will make 90% of the people around cringe hard as fuck.

Even a normal slim fit suit will overkill 90% of the time and make you seem tryhard.

A suit is like what a minidress is for a woman. Go over the top just a little and you look tremendously stupid.

Also there are probably 3 people on this whole planet that can pull off a pocket watch without looking like a M'Lady.

Tom Hardy probably chose the outfit as part of a promo tour for his series "Taboo" where he runs around in 19th century gear all the time.

And I say again. The perfect slim fit, black suit with the really nice watch and shiny shoes is reserved for special occasions and really high echelons of any organization. You d be wise not to outdress your boss. You absolutely dont want to wear a too perfect outfit.

It is not possible to go over the top with a suit if you understand the rules, and come from a culture and tradition in which the suit is part of the uniform.

Tom Hardy's suit is entirely appropriate for any smart function here in the UK. He would not be over dressed, because he has obeyed the rules of tradition. He may be the best dressed in the room, assuming noone had a 3-piece like mine, but his attire would be entirely appropriate.

The irony of an Austrian decrying incredibly smart, highly tailored uniforms is not lost on me.

London Inner City and Manhattan are the two places on Earth you can pull off a three piece suit for everyday work. And that is already pushing it.

The golden pocket watch, I just cannot see that working. Maybe, maybe if ure reaching 60, gray hair and are a top dog like an investment guru or smthg.
