A bipartisan group of senators has struck a deal on legislation that would shield hundreds of thousands of young immigrants from deportation, Sen. Jeff Flake, R-Ariz., told reporters Thursday.

"We've got this bipartisan group, we're at a deal," the senator said, according to NBC News. "So we'll be talking to the White House about that and I hope we can move forward with it. It's the only game in town. There's no other bill."

Shortly after Flake's comments, a spokesman for Sen. Dick Durbin, D-Ill., said talks were still ongoing, according to Reuters. Durbin is a member of the bipartisan group and an early proponent of legislation to shield those immigrants.

It is unclear what a Senate bill would contain. It is also not clear whether a deal struck by the six senators in the working group would get support from the rest of the chamber, the White House or more conservative House.

Flake said he expects a bill to get released by the end of the week. However, he doubts it could get passed by Jan. 19, the deadline that Democrats have set as a target to pass an immigration plan as part of a deal to avoid a government shutdown.

Democrats' insistence on passing an immigration bill by the funding deadline has raised concerns about the possibility of a government shutdown. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell has said he wants to address DACA and keeping the government open in separate pieces of legislation.

Republicans have sought some form of funding for measures to curb illegal immigration as part of a deal. On Wednesday, President Donald Trump insisted on an agreement that includes funding for his proposed border wall, a day after he told bipartisan lawmakers he would sign whatever they passed.

Flake is part of a bipartisan group of senators seeking a legislative solution after Trump ended the Obama-era Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program. If Congress cannot extend the protections for the young immigrants brought to the United States illegally as children, they could face deportation after the program starts to expire on March 5.

On Wednesday, several House Republicans released their own hardline immigration bill. The plan would aim to limit family-based or so-called chain migration, end the visa lottery system and beef up border security measures.

Democrats are unlikely to agree to some of those measures.

On Thursday, Flake said the physical structure Trump has called for does not need to be a "wall" but "more of a fence." He stressed the need for "surveillance" and "man power" in tandem with that.

DACA shielded nearly 800,000 young undocumented immigrants from deportation and allowed them to work legally in the U.S. Democrats and many Republicans in Congress supporting legislation enshrining those protections.

Some hardline supporters of Trump — who ran on a pledge to crack down on immigration — have criticized his talks about a bipartisan DACA solution.

The Trump administration recently set an $18 billion price tag over a decade for the border wall — a hefty bill even for many Republicans.

-A "revamp" of the diversity visa lottery. Basically, instead of being assigned at random, some of the slots will now go specifically to Central Americans. Fucking wow.

-Smoke and mirrors language that "chain migration" will be modified. In reality, what they are talking about is simply that DACA illegals will be able to sponsor their parents but not other relatives like other categories of legal immigrants can. However, the chain migration system outside of the DACAs will not be touched! In other words, we gain absolutely nothing, because if we simply didn't strike a deal and let DACA expire the DACAs would have absolutely zero power to sponsor anyone. This "chain migration win" actually means that in addition to keeping the existing chain migration system exactly as it is, we are throwing the DACAs and their parents on top of the pile as well.

-But we get ~1 billion for "border security," so long as it's allocated to "technology" and "monitoring" and not an actual wall.


This is so bad it's actually hilarious. It's a laser-perfect caricature of what a complete surrender/sellout looks like, if they took such a thing and said "that's not enough, let's take it and make it even funnier."

Let's think about this for a second. The point is that you guys don't want the USA to look like India. I don't either. So we can agree on that. I actually like India. I am from there and enjoy visiting. When in India, I also don't like to see western influences, for example, like girls slutting themselves out in the cities. It happens.

As far as multiculturalism, yes if you bring people over and tell them that it's okay to do things exactly the way they are used to, of course it's going to turn out unfavorable. That's what the west does. It invites immigrants and tells them to not change. Then, the conservative crowd blames the immigrants for not changing when change is not encouraged. Look, I'm a fucking immigrant, tried and true. When I came here in 1990, there was enough flak I got from the white and black kids to cause me to change and become who I am. I tried really hard and still couldn't do it, possibly because I was a pussy. Then I joined the military and that made me more American than probably some of the whitest of the white rural farm boys. The only difference is that my skin is brown instead.

Immigration has been a pillar of this country and always has been. A lot of culture we actually enjoy in America is very "immigrant," whether it's Irish, Italian, Jewish or even German and Dutch. It is the integration of immigrants into becoming citizens that's actually in question. Over time, I would even say that I unknowingly have turned into a white boy because I know that is the norm. So why make people think that it shouldn't be the norm through social justice channels, guilt and white shaming. That's the real problem.

If you don't want the USA to look like India, Mexico or China, then you (and I) need to encourage other men to take a stand and integrate better. It may take time and it's not easy; but bitching about immigration policy and trying to restrict it just because you don't like a certain ethnicity or race is not going to solve the issue. There will always be essential skills that come from places like India. For example, in the IT field there is no damn way right now that certain skills can be found in the USA or homegrown just yet. Immigration is the source in filling this gap.

My point: People will always immigrate here but until they are held accountable for assimilating, they will transform this country rather than the country transforming them. The lack of accountability is a cultural flaw caused by an extreme case of liberal social justice war rather than multiculturalism, immigration or whatever else. I think this is a reasonable observation.

Gents, the real challenge that you have as predominantly white men in this society is the competition from men from other countries that truly assimilate well or are born to immigrant parents; and are raised with a solid conservative up bringing. Those guys will give you a run for your money. When they do, you're not going to be able to blame multiculturalism. That's like a black or brown person blaming racism for their lack of progress. The above debate clearly demonstrates the split between ethno-nationalists and civic nationalists. Whether civic nationalism is enough to keep a nation together is the key question - can people of varying ethnicities eventually integrate into a single culture or do they split up into their heritage groups and/or continue to retain characteristics from their heritage country, simply due to human nature?

I have noticed a lot of IRT thirst in guys while I was in India and guys I worked with. Not all of the guys I met in India were IT guys.

You had pack of guys walking up and down the beaches taking pictures of women in their bathing suits. They weren't even trying to hide it.

I have other similar stories that show that type of thirst is more common than not. In other words, our IRT wasn't an anomaly.

The research found that the sex of the previous child was a determining factor in whether a female foetus was aborted. Fewer females are born as second and third children if the first child in a family is a girl. It said lack of girls as a second or third child is more pronounced in educated, rather than illiterate, women.

In a commentary on the report, Prof Shirish Sheth, of Breach Candy Hospital in Mumbai, said: "To have a daughter is socially and emotionally accepted if there is a son, but a daughter's arrival is often unwelcome if the couple already have a daughter." He said there is published evidence of rampant female feticide in India where daughters are regarded as a liability. "Female infanticide of the past is refined and honed to a fine skill in this modern guise," Sheth added.

Co-author of the report, Dr Rajesh Kumar, of the School of Public Health in Chandigarh, said missing females is a growing problem. "Our study emphasises the need for routine, reliable and long-term measurement of births and deaths," Kumar added.

President Trump addressed that when he said there would be a "big, beautiful door" on the "big, beautiful wall." There will be a guest worker program for agriculture and some other industries which can't get adequate labor from the domestic workforce.
