Ripple (XRP)
About 5 months ago I was out on a first date with a hot young foreign girl and the fact that I day trade large companies like AAPL came up.

In the next ten minutes she repeatedly tried to convince me to look into cryptocurrencies and I repeatedly brushed off the idea because of the whole buy what you know philosophy.

At this moment I still know very little about this whole industry even after beginning my research.

What my dumb ass has realized, however, is while I was spending my time and effort to push through 20%, some of these currencies/companies have made over 1000% in no time.

I don't have nearly enough information to make any moves, but I'm trying to figure things out.

All that being said, is XRP not an easy way to make a huge return?

It is at around $1 today after a huge recent increase and the target price for the end of 2018 is estimated at $2-5. I don't know enough about what they do, but it seems like a win win for all involved and doesn't compete with cryptos like Bitcoin.

Thoughts on this and why the opinion is so fiercely split?

Again, sorry to jump into this with little information, and I will continue reading an researching.

Focusing on some serious gaming and personal development for the next few months. Will be taking PMs though.

RE: Ripple (XRP)
XRP is up something like 7,500% this year and has gone from low .30's to over 1.15 in the past week alone. I posted couple posts about it on the alt day trading thread.

XRP is the token that is used with the Ripple network architecture, so they are not -strictly speaking- the same things. Some Asian banks have begun limited testing of Ripple, and that may be bullish in the short-medium term for XRP but it isn't necessarily the slam dunk that people make it out to be as they could always just develop their own token if wider adoption of the Ripple network happens. There are all sorts of rumors about it being aded to Coinbase, but those are just rumors and XRP doesn't match their listing criteria anyway. Several news stories about it lately have been hyping it up.

In other words: it has some potential.

I would also suggest looking into Lisk OMG Ark Neo and Cardano if you are looking for medium to long term returns.

My brother told me approximately a month ago about Ripple and Dash. I bought both little bit more than 3 weeks ago and I tripled my money on Ripple.

I tried to cash my principle yesterday, I did cash majority of my principle. I'm keeping house money now.

If you hadn't noticed the crypto market looks like it's going bear. Close to $100B has gone in three days. XRP is one of the few ones that has done well in this bear pivot, but I've sold it anyway.

The gains will likely be smaller into the future, supposing the market can sustain upward momentum next year. I think the returns from crypto will be good in the future, but harder to come by. Right now I am expecting more of a downturn and we will see how the market feels.

I was surprised xrp didn't have it's own thread. I'm curious how many RVF members own xrp.
I have some myself. As of now, it's one of the few coins that have gained value in the past 24 hours.

A dude I work with jumped on to BitCoin about a half year ago, before it exploded. He's gotten into some other cryptos since then, all of which have gone up in value dramatically. He told me to buy ripple this weekend because he's sure it'll be up to USD 1000 in a year. I kid you not (not that it actually will, but that he thinks it will).

As a complete newb to cryptocurrency I have no idea of course.

^Do the math on that one. If you invested 1,000$ In January 2016 in Ripple if Ripple hits 1,000$ then it would be worth 167 million. I don’t think that’s realistic.

It's a high market cap coin tho. It's probably a safe bet but I'm not certain about huge returns we see in crypto. I think $2-5 is realistic if you look at it's past performance but in crypto 200-500% is a modest return.

Don't feel bad OP, I went through the same with trying different investment vehicles - all terrible places to park my money. I eventually ended up in crypto and only wish I looked into it sooner. Last year I got a 420% return by gambling money on Trump and it was one the happiest days of my life, now I look back and think how if I had invested into crypto I'd already be retired.

RE: Ripple (XRP)
I got into crypto in october I guess and since the beginning XRP seemed good to me since beginning (it was about 0.18). But my investment money is limited and I wasn´t looking for something long-term and also I didn´t see big chance their goals could be reached.
But now I see that it´s potential could be at least partially fullfiled, when we see new partnerships and media going crazy about it. Bought mine at 0.65 and I am all-in, at least for few months. I guess it could rise soon by hundreds percents thanks to speculations. What can happen with XRP in case of Ripple´s success nobody really knows. Ripple´s goals are not speculative money but corporate, which is much bigger market. But I think it´s worth to wait.

That last point seems pretty valid to me. I'll probably take the plunge today and buy some if I can figure it out, at least a few hundred bucks worth, something I can afford to lose in the worst case scenario.

RE: Ripple (XRP)
Ripple is now within $3B of Ethereum's Market Cap after huge gains yesterday and today.

Could reaching 2nd place on the Market Cap list set Ripple up for a huge pump followed by a major sell-off/plummet?

edit: now within $300 million, 5 minutes after I wrote it!

This might be included in some of the other threads , but can anyone recommend the easiest way from the US to buy XRP? I wanted to buy it at .60 and it's killing me to watch the price go up. It looks like it's taking two weeks for my funds to clear on one of the exchanges.

I was trying to figure this out yesterday, from the perspective of someone brand new.

Best I can come up with is:
1. Coinbase, fund with USD
2. Coinbase, buy ETH or BCC
3. Binance, transfer ETH or BCC from Coinbase
4. Binance, purchase XRP/ETH or XRP/BCC

Reference article for steps above

I don't know how long this process would take (minutes, hours, days) and what fees would be associated.

If there is a simpler, quicker, cheaper way hopefully someone will post it.

XRP has been good to me.

Briefly passed ETH to become #2.

CEO was just on CNBC, and the research partnership with AMEX in addition to all the Asian banks has been favorable to the price.

They release 1 billion coins every month, so this could be a pump before the next lot of coins hit after the new year.

I decided last night to put half my Bitcoin and Bitcoincash into Ripple, then before I went to sleep said 'fuck it' and went all in. My first gamble paid off, that's awesome but not good because now I'll think I'm invincible and get addicted..

I'm going to give Ripple credit. The real blockchain community know that XRP is not needed to run the Ripple platform. But even with that it's surpassed Ethereum and has been on a crazy tear right now. I really have no words to express myself. Congrats to all the ripple holders. If you invested 3k into Ripple last January you are a millionaire!

RE: Ripple (XRP)
^^^I was at a lunch yesterday with a finance friend of mine who dabbles his gambling bug in Cryptos.

He was going on and on about ripple and apparently made $10k over a few months.

He explained the system and how all of the coins have been mined and that they'll keep releasing more of them over time.

To be honest, this whole thing reminds me of my penny stock days where you'll have a massive run from several cents to a dollar and then crash as the founders dilute into it.

I don't like how they have a large war chest of non-circulating coins. The sad reality is, Ripple is very similar to fiat cash with electronic flair.

Ripple was undervalued at .20 and still at $2. Yes it’s not needed to use ripple tech but that also a good thing as it shows that their network will never get clogged up by institutional transactions. Leaving the coins to be used for in kind exchange with 4 second conversions.

It will likely hit $5 and possibly double digits on the next announcement. Depends on how the overall market is doing when that happens. XRP is going to make a lot of people rich in 2018. It has already in just a week.

Coinbase is greasing all of us - I now have full verification and a direct bank Routing and Account Number and they are still holding my fiat deposits for a FREAKING 9 DAY FLOAT - Multiply that by millions of us and we are keeping these SanFran Spice Smokers high as hell just on the float alone - literally just cost me a small fortune as two weeks ago I was ready to pull the trigger on 40,000 Cardano ADA coins at $0.03 cents for $1,200.00 and my cash was tied up in CB Float - so now looking at local coin base to buy LTC - the LTC block transfer time much faster than BTC and Bcash combined and converts instantly to BTC at Binance since they are flush with BTC Bcash Bgold and LTC so I move LTC to Binance sell it to BTC by default and buy my ALTZ (Ripple etc) till my BTC balance down to literally 1 satoshi as there is always some residual after buying altz due to quite reasonable low Binance fees to buy the ALTZ

Looking at using LOCALBITCOIN for wallet to wallet private buys of primary Cryptos (BTC LTC) to buy Alts once you have the say LTC in your JAXX etc or Trezor or Nano wallet you send to your exchange of Choice and Viola no GDAX/CB fees or freaking FLOATS.

https://localbitcoins.com/

I rant therefore I am. P.S. In New Hampshire we are now a constitutional carry state like Bernmont and Maine so make sure you have backup preferably a trained and armed wingman when you convert cash for BTC in case some dodgey phocks think they are in a bad rerun of Miami Vice. and try to grab your cash and keep the Cryptos.- thats Why I carry a .380 with a crimson trace laser and a .357 Magnum backup along with several less lethal persuaders (Strobe Flashlight with 1.8 micro-columb taser rated severe intolerable debilitating pain - literally the most powerful I could find as Voltage over 30K volts is China Fluff marketing as 30K volts will always air gap so it is power over time that counts along with a couple pepper sprays to leave them blind and gagging if they try some dumb low IQ shite. - was attacked last summer by an Eminem 8 mile thug wannabee while taking an after dinner walk to enjoy a victory cigar... little munt came at me and threw a right hook that I blocked and came at me again until I used my best NCO command voice and let him know I was phocking armed and if he forced my hand he would find out that laser sighted sidearms NEVER miss in experienced hands. Little phock was calling me a pussy while he was backing up - I had a locked focus on his eyes and hands - if he reached for anything it would have been the worst decision of his life - then he turned around and had Bitches embroidery all over the pockets of his phat phocker baggy jeans - It was all I could do not to die laughing at this Eminem Phat Phag Phock calling me the putang. So I have diversified with lethal and serious non lethal defense tools so I do not have to shoot first - even with NRA Carry Guard Concealed Carry Insurance the paperwork and legal hassles are not worth it - this time the mention of being armed gave the mommy spolied 20 Yr Old white boy Wanna Bee Eminem an attitude correction but what about the next phocker - so better to be judged by 12 than carried by six - just saying. Most PDs have a Crigslist buy/sell safe zone but if they see you pull out a wad of blue benjamins to buy Bitcoins or LTCs they might decide to Civil Asset Forfeit your arse... So be careful.
