This is a relevant thread, given that it ties into national holidays (MLK being the only American whose birthday is a national holiday). So let's take it a step further...

1.) MLK was a black man with impressive achievements; the United States should make his birthday a national holiday and his private life should not be relevant.

2.) George Washington and Abraham Lincoln were white men with impressive achievements; however, the United States should REMOVE their birthdays from the national holiday list and their private lives are VERY relevant (most notably, Washington being a slave owner in an era where many aristocrats were slave owners).

Washington's birthday and Lincoln's birthday used to be well-celebreated; I remember them vividly from my childhood. But then, they were strategically replaced with the generic "President's Day." Yeah...because we all owe our freedoms to Millard Fillmore. What a scam of the highest order! The subterfuge is so clear...erase all the white heroes of American history and replace them with "divide-and-conquer" figures. The toppling of the confederate statues was just an extension of this. I wouldn't be surprised if in five years, these statues are replaced with a bust of Bella Abzug or Saul Alinsky.

To be honest, no, I don't think these communities will ever fix themselves, because if they don't understand what the problem is in the first place they have no way of solving it. The minority, like you, understand, but unless you take action within your community nothing will change. I'll call it the "pluralistic ignorance" phenomenon as it relates to community organizing (Cialdini - Influence, p.99)

I think the biggest beef many have with the perpetual state of black outrage over historical civil rights issues is that many white people in the states come from dirt poor European immigrant families who didn't have a dollar to their name and lived in filth in ethnic ghettos in the early to mid 1900's. They got called ethnic slurs much like blacks did by the native population. Sure no one in their family tree was ever a slave, but the living conditions and quality of life were quite abysmal. I find it hard to believe that racism and discrimination (which was never engaged in by the ancestors of a large percentage of the modern day white population in the states I might add) is the only explanation for the continuing collective failure of these black communities. There should have been much more progress made in the last 40-50 years. Where is it? Samseau already explained the reason for the continuing failures.

Wow. Probably the reason (((they))) keep Jesus's birthday a holiday is to remind everyone that no matter who you are Jews can kill you just like they did him. Its an annual reminder.

I heard that they consolidated presidents day so as not to shorten the already shortest month with another federal holiday. Back when the holidays were both celebrated the usa wasn't so centered on monthly financial cycles and what not. That might not be conspiracy theoryish enough, so its probably knot true.

I doubt it's cultural because prior to the 1970's, black family structures were fairly strong. A strong family structure doesn't just collapse once you give its members basic human rights. It's very possible that the FBI had some role to play in the crack epidemic that gutted poor blacks, while they almost certainly did their best to destabilize groups like the Black Panthers who wanted to strengthen and educate black communities.

Racial IQ explanations also fall flat in the face of how successful African immigrants to the states are. Most of these immigrants come from Nigeria or Ghana (where most African Americans bear descent) and do fantastically well in the United States, making I believe the highest average income of any ethnic group.

(The Panthers by the way were very different from nutjobs like the Nation of Islam who believed that white people had been bred in spaceships by the black scientist Yakub. Funnily enough these guys did not get fucked with by the FBI.)

I also don't know about that last part. The vast majority of the white people I've met on the West Coast come from divorced families with fairly fucked up issues, most self harmed themselves through their teenage years, engaged in incredibly self-destructive and hedonistic behavior in college, and were clearly just not raised very well. I remember how I tried to hop the fence into a frat party with some white guys I met. The frat dudes saw us and told us to fuck off. I was like whatever, it's their party, but one of the white dudes started screaming about how the frat guys were faggots and how he didn't want to get into their party anyway. The dude sounded like he was on the verge of tears. I have a million stories like this.

The picture is a lot more complicated than "black people just decide not act civilized or have families", there are a lot of inexplicable shifts that happened in black culture and in American culture as a whole. I think Americans might have the worst family structures in history as a whole, this process has just affected some groups more than others.

The Black Panthers and many of the groups they regularly associated with were domestic terrorists who killed police officers, bombed government buildings, plotted with foreign Communist groups during the height of the Cold War, etc.

For instance, Eldridge Cleaver, who was an early leader in the Black Panther movement, admitted in his memoir to being a serial rapist who targeted white women for political reasons. His book was published the same year he tried to ambush and kill a group of cops. Clearly a great role model.

Maybe the FBI had a problem with the Black Panthers because they were hijacking planes at gunpoint and flying them to Cuba and not because the FBI are big, bad racists with nothing better to do than keep black people down.

The above is just one of many airplane hijackings committed by Black Panthers and other radical leftist groups during that time period, by the way. Thank God the US no longer suffers from dozens of hijackings and hundreds of bombings a year because the FBI did their jobs.

Martin Luther's legacy is built on his insight that true, lasting change must be built on inspiring people to live up to their ideals, not attacking, denigrating or humiliating them.

MLK was a child of the South. He grew up in Atlanta in a comfortable middle class home. When he went away to college in the North, he knew he didn't belong -- he was a Southerner, born and bred. So he returned to home, bringing the philosophical insights he gained in his schooling to challenge white Southerners. He drew on his Christian faith that he shared with the segregationalists to encourage them to live up to their lofty principles as fellow Christians. He knew that only by exhorting them to live up to those principles could he change the environment of the South. And he did.

While he is known as a liberal icon, his acceptance of human limitations and the importance of small groups like family put him at odds with mainstream liberal policies. He has a slightly unnatural but more welcome home with conservatives interested in family and Christian faith. Why so many conservatives continue to degrade him is beyond me. . .

These sorts of scurrilous character attacks are disgusting and not befitting of a man of such tremendous insight and spirit. We are blessed to have had such a great man in our history. I can only shake my head at such flagrant lies and conspiracy-theorizing about MLK.

I say take the document dump with a grain of salt. The FBI at the time was a mess, and all this stuff was used as potential blackmail material. Given the history of King that I'm aware of, he was regularly harassed by federal agents, and if i'm not mistaken, they sometimes threatened him via anonymous phone calls and the mail. If some all powerful government agency puts a tremendous amount of resources in digging into your personal life they're going to find out things about you that are not flattering. Plus, who knows, maybe some of it's fabricated, or made with the intent to discredit.

Here is the reality. There are no pure men, even in ministry. The older I have gotten, the more I see it. Let's talk about Baptist folks for a minute, just in general. Baptist people I will admit, drink too much, hoe up and down the road, go out to clubs and party too hard. They always in church on Sunday hollerin and struttin laps across the poolpit showing out, but the other days of the week, it's not kosher at all. While they still fulfill the requirements for salvation, none of the bad behavior helps them in life. They cut off their own blessings. In some ways King cursed his own family. None of his children have children. His legacy was cut at the end of his work. If no good deed goes unpunished, what do you think happens when you do bad things?

Growing up in the South, my family (extended on both sides) was split church wise. My mother's family was mostly Church of God In Christ (COGIC) which is the black version of Pentecostal. I'm sure you know what that is, but for those that do not, Pentecosts are almost as strict as Jehovah's Witnesses on discipline. They do not practice shunning, but women are not allowed to cut their hair, and must always wear dresses, makeup and piercings was banned, among other things. Other folks in the family were Baptist. You could always know who was who. Me personally I gravitated more towards the COGIC side, because I like those traditional views and I thought the unblemished women were prettier My brothers are definitely more Baptist than anything.

Today we have Non-Denominational and Evangelical Christians. Let's be real though. What is the difference between those and Baptists? Nothing. Those first two do not have the Southern Baptist Convention more or less. All three share the same bookstores and TV stuff. All 3 are horrible on discipline. It's pretty fast food and is full of feminism unfortunately. Reading Dalrock, you find that he is talking about these three Churches unless he specifies something else. Baptist came before the other two and MLK had no chance to pick. He grew up in their bad culture of doing things. Sure he has responsibilities for his actions, but the vast majority of blacks were Baptist because they were not exactly welcome in white churches. COGIC blacks were those that wanted the spirit filled experience but more structure. Even smaller amounts went the JW route. Even today they are a small minority.

The take away from all of this is that Christian black people, have to improve upon each new generation. Many Baptists are no longer that and learn more and do better generally speaking. My expert bible knowing grandfather (who was Baptist) used to beat my grandmother and was very cruel to her, but his son, as well as myself had to break that generational curse. My son should get alot closer to a saint than I did and I will continue to speak blessings over his life so that he may keep Godly favor and pass that down. I'm doing things my father did not know how to do spiritually. I resisted working in ministry but perhaps my son will do better than me and will at least volunteer and keep himself out of mess like I got into.

I think it is a poor idea for other Christians to pass judgement and look down upon "Baby Christians" and others with deep faults and condemn them without at least trying to understand where they are coming from. If people that want George Washington's statues taken down because he owned slaves, and we here know that is wrong because we should not be holding others from the past to today's standards like that, why do this to MLK? The fathers of our country and our own families were not saints and it is not fair to look down on them today with our Modern Arrogance as if we are better than them as men. If you are under 40, you especially needn't say anything ill of other older men. Walk some miles in their shoes first.

Let's look at this from another viewpoint now.

Your hero Trump, technically is not really qualified to be president, but God is still using him regardless of his many flaws to do HIS work. None of can know all of the Lord's plans, but when you see the results of his work, you know it is HIS work and not the work of the enemy.

Well neither guy is Mohammad. He is a false prophet/anti-christ for a litany of reasons to list, but he did absolutely no good things outside of his blasphemies. That's how you can know the difference.

One of the things I started working towards was to be less judgmental. I have my bad days, but overall I think I am much better. A work in progress as they say.

It's easy to cast stones towards someone without walking in their shoes. Many like to think we would behave better even if we went through the trials and tribulations of our fellow man.

If I am going to be honest, I need to realize that I may not act better. In fact, I may act worst if I had to live someone's life. Keeping that in the back of my mind helps me judge less.

Make no mistake, some actions are not excusable and that isn't what I am talking about.

I don't believe judging others will bring you closer to God. I think it is the opposite and one of the reasons we are here is to learn not to judge. We are here to make mistakes and learn from those mistakes. To help each other learn and through that we grow spiritually.

MLK is probably not a saint. I haven't met anyone that was. His impact has left our society much better than if he had never existed.

The family and other issues that plague the black community is all of our problems. It isn't like other communities aren't suffering from the same issues. Go visit some of those blue collar states and you will see tons of white people hooked on drugs.

No jobs, nothing to do with their time and depression from feeling hopeless can lead to disaster for any person.

I like to think most people want to take care of their families and feel proud in doing so. Hopefully, we will get more jobs to give people the chance to be proud again.

Too much time, with nothing to lose, leads to bad actions. I don't think we will ever get back to the nuclear family but my hope is things will get better.

Completely agreed it's an excellent post besides the heavy Protestant rhetoric and a few points here and there. Implying Catholicism and by proxy Eastern Orthodoxy as heresies doesn't necessarily jive well with me.

But I'm no Christian so there's no dog of mine in this fight.
