Men could get pregnant as early as “tomorrow” due to huge leaps in the transplantation of wombs, according to the outgoing president of the American Society for Reproductive Medicine.
Dr. Richard Paulson told the society’s annual meeting in San Antonio, Texas that there was no anatomical reason why a womb could not be successfully implanted into a transgender woman.

“You could do it tomorrow,” he reportedly said in his address. “There would be additional challenges, but I don’t see any obvious problem that would preclude it,” he added, emphasizing that it was still a very complicated procedure.

While Paulson insisted there was plenty of room for a uterus to be transplanted into the male body, a natural birth would not be possible. An IVF embryo would have to be implanted and a cesarean operation would be necessary to deliver a baby.

It’s also likely that hormones would have to be administered to the patient to replicate the changes that happen during pregnancy, according to Paulson.

“I personally suspect there are going to be trans women who are going to want to have a uterus and will likely get the transplant,” he said of the procedure.

The first successful womb transplant baby was born in 2014 after a 36-year-old woman, who was born without a uterus, received a donated womb from a friend in her 60s. Eight children have now been born worldwide following uterus transplants.

The conference also highlighted the lack of awareness around fertility preservation for transgender patients, noting that very few gender reassignment patients receive fertility preservation treatments prior to transitioning.

A recent survey of 20 transgender men found that none of them had undergone egg retrieval and freezing for fertility preservation.

“It is important that transgender patients know that fertility preservation is an option for them. This research seems to indicate that we need to do a better job in educating the wider public and fellow physicians on the wider availability and clinical application of fertility preservation treatments,” said Christos Coutifaris, president-elect of the ASRM.

A few question for doctor Paulson Mc Bollocks:

-How would the feeding system connect to nurture the baby?
-How would the false vaginal tract be adapted in order to make it possible to expel the baby?
-How many hormones would be needed to make it work? Will it even work and not wreck the body further?

If you re-read the article it answers most of your question

1. That's the job of the womb (uterus). It has already been done though on a women.

2. You can't. You'll need a Caesarian operation.

3. The article already mentions that you'll need to administer female hormones.

Went on a quick read on quora and wikipedia to see how unborn babies feed and reading on the development of the placenta makes me wonder if hormones will actually do the job given the corporal structure of males and females is different and as far as I know, hormonal treatment may alleviate this differences but never fully nullify them.
Furthermore, a surprising number of real women themselves often have problems with their uterus and the placental development which may kill the fetus.
Imagine what it would be inside a body that wasn't developed for it

Sexual difference took millions of years to develop and refine, that is, way before even dinosaurs existed, sexual differentiation already existed at the level of cellular life forms..

I admit my ignorance of stuff beyond high school anatomy (which is probably already deemed heretical these days) but it sounds like a tall order...

Why is such idiotic research being founded? Can't we all just agree to take that funding and give it to curing cancer or travel to mars or anti-asteroid shield?

We can probably use science to do a lot of stupid stuff, but should we? Our modern civilization thinks science is the highest form of wisdom, but we are in a terrible lack of a higher form if wisdom that would allow us to make wise decisions on how we apply our science and technology.

I wouldn`t be to concerned about this, since it`s such an obscure concept that it will
never take off.

What could be a real scenario (in not to long) though is a synthetic womb, in other words
a baby factory. This would allow women to pursue their precious careers, and outsource
pregnancy to a corporation. It would only involve the small inconvenience of donating an egg.
No man or work abruption required. With Government day care etc. you could be a "mother" with
only limited exposure to your child, tailored to your specific lifestyle.

Please someone correct me if I am not correct but I always assumed women physiology gives them different bone structures within the pelvis and ribs that creates room to house a growing fetus?

Hormones aside why is there an assumption that their is magically "enough room" in a man to house a fetus?

It's sounds more like Science ! than science,
Of the "cloning mammoths back into Existence" type. Sad for RT as they used to have a bit more dignity.

I've asked around a bit more just because.
You would have to make a whole new body to accompany the new womb to make it functional.
With an existing "formerly" male body you would at the very least need to rewire the entire fucking endocrine system (not even being good at C++ would do the trick on this OS) beside re-arranging bone structure, not just the hips (spoiler:you can't) in order to ensure that the womb could develop an infant properly, that is, if it even made it to that stage before the host body's immune system nuked it.

So likely the baby will never be able to grow to full term, and they will likely C-Section the baby very prematurely and then grow it in the ICU incubator for the remaining time.
