That's actually the thing - none of those things (even when taken together) can be called culture, simply because they've only been around for 30-60 years, which makes them trends at best.

For example, hunting has been around for millennia and could feasibly form a phrase such as "hunting culture", "martial culture", "self-sufficiency culture", "animal culture" or any other narrow or wide form of "culture". Backpacking? Surfing? Music festivals? None of those things qualify. They're mere trends, drifting alone in an ocean of other trends unconnected to each other, waxing and waning in popularity depending on random factors. They have no permanency needed to be considered culture.

Culture is by very definition something that has stood the test of time and represents an integral part of a community. That doesn't mean it can't change or expand, of course, but until those changes accumulate a few centuries under their belts, they simply don't count.

Thus, the poor liberal girl is correct: she has no culture. She is a cultural orphan, callously abandoned by her parents and society in a world of increasingly insane trends.

^This is true, but I definitely think that white liberalism is easily the most debased offshoot of white American culture, which itself has been watered down by a number of factors:

- Most white Americans are hybrids of several different European ethnicities -- any unique features have been blended out of their collective culture. All that remains is a pretty generic variety of a broader American culture that people of all races anyway participate in.

- The breakdown of the family in white America (mostly in liberal areas)

-The proliferation of frivolous bullshit trends like extreme hedonism and voluntourism -- both of which became the almost exclusive domain of liberal white women.

-The media screaming about how racist white people are and how they need to check their privilege.

The concept of "white" as a broad national/racial/ethnic identity is relatively new to the US (outside of segregated enclaves in the South), before the 1950s/60s, most people lived in cities and neighborhoods with their own ethnic enclaves, with the church and parochial schools being the glue that held the community together. They identified as Irish, Italian, Polish, German, Greek etc rather than "white".

People were pushed towards bland suburbs that didn't have the vibrant city life of the old neighborhoods. Those hoods were often altered and degraded through the mass shipping of southern blacks, with the real estate markets manipulated (phenomenon known as "blockbusting"), and urban policies like the building of massive housing projects in ethnic white neighborhoods. Those types of policies generated ethnic tensions and degraded the social fabric of both the southern transplants and the "white flight" suburbanites.

E. Michael Jones documents the busting of American neighborhoods in his book "The Slaughter of Cities", one of his many must-reads. Jones is the most underrated and sharpest intellectuals on the subject of American social engineering, among other subjects:





The dynamics in cities across the US northeast and midwest are pretty similar to the current situation in Europe, with the flood of newcomers leading to the rise of ethnic tension, they are forms of social control and social engineering. If you want to get to the bottom of Ferguson or Molenbeek, Jones' perspective is very helpful.

"White people have no culture"? The culture is so pervasively copied, imitated and appropriated that people don't even recognize it.

Would you feel silly dressing in traditional clothing in business meetings all around the world? We don't, because our traditional clothing IS the business suit that everyone else copies.

"White Culture" is the victim of something called "Total Brand Identification". Have you ever needed a Kleenex? The Kleenex brand has been so identified with the product, people just assume Kleenex IS the name of the product. I'm not American and I've never even been to the States, but this is exactly what I imagine when I think of "American values" and it's also why I have so much respect for the US.

It's interesting cause even in some parts of the Anglosphere like the UK, societies are less individualistic and people seem to have this defeatist, victim-like outlook that I simply can't stand (specially among millenials).

I always try to explain this when Europeans look down on the US, as if we were inherently superior.

Besides shopping and consuming, what kind of culture do Americans have that unites them? Vacationing? Amazon? Music fests? Much of what we have had for the last 70 years has been shallow.

We may have "values", but do we have enough that they translate into a culture that stands on its own, regardless of place and time?

We have an identity crisis.

It's only going to get worse until real tribal bonds are formed - likely ones that transcend race, groups, and nations. In today's digital age, an identity has to bind people on not just a local level, but at a spiritual an ideological one. It has to stand on its own and be able to still retain it's core anywhere in the world. There's a reason why the Gypsies and the Jews have managed to survive and in some cases prosper in many different parts of the world, regardless of the nations and cultures they were in.

Perhaps there are some lessons that can be learned.

One thing about American culture that others have failed to mention, or skirt around, is the openness and friendliness of the people. Friendliness and hospitality is prevalent in many cultures, but it is rarely as genuine and obvious (and lacking social obligation) as it is with Americans.

Americans don't hide their personalities to others, and are very upfront and personal to everyone, from close family to complete strangers.

This makes it incredibly easy to make friends with Americans.

This heart-on-your-sleeve, exuberance and rambunctiousness is also why Americans tend to have a bit of a negative reputation when travelling overseas. They're seen as very loud, and talkative about inane topics, which tends to clash with more conservative cultures in Europe and elsewhere. Other cultures tend to guard their personal feelings a lot more in public.

This is shown countless times in caricatures of Americans travelling abroad.
