RE: Couch Surfing?
The only downside is that you (usually) stay couple of nights with the host, so if you wanna stay longer you might need to find another host.

RE: Couch Surfing?
I used to be pretty active in couchsurfing. They say it's not about dating but that's just to discourage the loosers from certain countries who go on the try and find a wife. Very very easy to pick up on there, search for cute girls in the city you are going to and organise to meet up for drinks. Hooked up with about 10 girls around Europe/States doing this.

I also used to host a lot at home in Australia. As i was one of the first to come up in search results i would get dozens of requests a week. Would just pick the cute girls and have them come and stay. This was also a gold mine without putting too much effort in.

Haven't hosted anyone for a year due to living arrangements and work committments. Looking forward to doing some couchsurfing around Sth America later this year. You really do get a totally different view of the city when staying with a local compared to at the hostel with every other aussie/canadian/american!

Best story - Meet up to sex with a 10/10 Estonian stunner in about an hour (my friends told me it was going to be an old russian dude that would rob me, seemed to good to be true but was actually for real)
Horror story - Stuck on a houseboat drunk and stoned with an old bloke who turned out to be a raging homo

(P.S. I'm new here - Hi)

Bretto: In every large south american city i browsed through, there are usually less than 10 hot girls to message for a drink. In Medellin I only found 4(!), even though the city of course has a lot of great looking girls. CS hasn't caught on in S. American as much as europe and the states I guess.

I had just started to notice this when doing a bit of profile browsing. I will probably look to stay with with some fun guys that are keen to show me the non touristy nightlife. Backpackers are easy pickings but if i'm in a country I want to try and meet some local girls!

Staying with girls from CS is really hit or miss. If you don't end up together then they usually take offense if you meet and go home with another girl. On the other hand having some local guys show you around and translate can work really well.

Edit - Make sure to keep an eye on the groups section of cities you are going to be in (E.g Cordoba - http://www.couchsurfing.org/group.html?gid=1465). Have been to some amazing house parties this way Wink

CS is massive in South America, just not in all countries.

Cololmbia, no.

Argentina, massively so.

P.S. I am couchsuring in Madrid right now.

So... couchsurfing is also for making dates with people, and not just crashing?

No it's just for crashing and social networking.

CS is NOT a dating website and you will get a bad rep if you treat it like one.

Having said that, it's a good way to meet people and some of those people are girls so ....

CS seems like a complete waste of time for the majorly touristy places in W. Europe like Dublin and Paris (for a guy). Every couch host was a dude who straight out ignored my request to stay. Not that I blame them.

Getting a host is a skill.

I am couch surfing in Madrid right now. Later today I am going to Valencia and I already have a host there (she is cute too) plus two other girls there who I am meeting for drinks (both cute).

1. Good profile page. You need to come across as a cool interesting guy that people would want to hang with, chat to and maybe learn from.

2. Positive references. Can't be understated. Glowing positive references from other people make hosts feel like they can trust you to stay in their place and makes it more likely that people will want to meet you for a drink.

3. When looking for a host, you are more likely to succeed if you post requests to people who are relatively new to the site. Established hosts gets a dozen or more requests every day.

4. You have to know how to write out your request. Don't ever send the standard pre-filled request or you will get a standard response. Tips here :

my problem with CS was more with where to met up and getting in contact with them ( if theirs no phones around, dont speak English , or busy ) . Also, I went to one girls house in Bogota but here place was like a hour taxi ride out of the city center . I was scared shit less going out there cas i though the taxi guy was gona chop me up .

Also, seems like these people msg you like 2 weeks after you gave the ma pm. When you already passed threw the city.

That's because they didn't want to host you. Join the community, go to events and gathering, host people in your home town, build a profile. It's a popularity contest, then they'll give you the time of day.

This is true, it reminds me of a dating website.

So I can understand how this is a whole "community" and people get cred through positive reviews and whatnot, but anyone here ever worry about getting their money/valuables jacked by a shaddy host or their friends? I myself, usually travel with cash and don't like using credit/debit cards, so I am always a little paranoid when it comes to getting $$ stolen.

RE: Couch Surfing?
Couch surfing can be very hit or miss.... I always use it as one of my pipeline methods.. I have never hosted or stayed as a CS at someone else's...

Have pretty much refined a standard msg that I send out.. Drop a few hooks in the message that dhv without making it obvious.... When I know I'm travelling somewhere I don't spend a lot of time on it but copy paste to any cute looking girls...

Some cities more sucessful than others and actually have more potential meet ups than I actually have time for..

As for meet ups it's very hit or miss though stopped going to any now..In top tier cities like NYC the meetings have been ok but second tier cities it's all people who are awkwardly inept at being social and no hot chicks turn up....

References are key and I don't know how the fuck but I seem to have gotten really good references mainly from cute women that have helped a lot...

One thing to note is is the references I have are from girls who I didn't bang... im still in touch and friends with 90% of the girls I banged as its always good to have back ups if I travel back to that country .

The downside is it makes me lazy and more often than I should do, I have gone for the easy 6/7 rather than going out and tying to bang a 9 from night game...

Forgot to add - even if you message some of the more average girls they will have friends and will invite you out to party with themes a group which gives you an instant social circle and introductions to other chicks...
