I'm with SamB on this one. Not because it "looks" dumb, but the problem is if you can buy as many tokens as you want, it is essentially uncapped. If an ICO has a cap, the lower the better, the more intrinsic demand it has, and the higher value it will have when it hits the exchanges. That, of course, is assuming the project is good and legit. Uncapped ICOs get so much money thrown at it, that it chews up all the buying demand before it even hits the exchanges.

I'm strongly considering putting a lot of money towards Request when it gets released on the exchange. It's riskier than any other investment I've made, but it could retire me to Bulgaria in my 20's.

There will be serious FOMO when the exchange opens.

Why don't you invest 50% when it opens and 50% a few days later when it hopefully cools off

If Request is the riskiest investment you've ever made, you shouldn't be putting lots of money onto trying to flip it.

I've already maxed out three days worth of individual cap for Request. I'm very bullish on Request because payment CC have tended to do normally well in the past year. Check Metalpay and Tenx. On top of that YC and ING invested in this team. I'm very bullish and if it hits ED at ICO price may just cop me a lot more.

If it's ICO price on ED that's not a good sign at all. You don't need to dump but buying more wouldn't be good. Luckily I highly doubt it will be anywhere near ICO and if it is, SamB will have been correct in that ICOs are dead.

The risk of Request is that it may go down in the short term not that it would stay down in the long run.

Anyway, has anyone heard about Quantstamp? They want to use the blockchain to automatically test the security of smart contracts and pay currency to anyone who finds bugs or improves the software. The currency is spent to get a smart contract audited.
Their white paper explains it far better than I can https://docsend.com/view/shcsmhe

I see two potential issues.
  • Smart contracts don't end up as common as they predict so automation stays unnecessary.
  • Another currency (NEO?) beats ethereum, and Quantstamp ends up unable to adapt.

Also, they want people to "show care" to get on the whitelist, so it might end up over spammed by people looking to flip.

@Bill

Etherdelta is an exchange I like to use but significant price movements in ICOs normally happen because of exchanges. If Request doesn't hit a big exchange in a couple days there's a good chance it'll be a couple cents away from ICO price.

Example is chainlink. It was at 13c on ED (ICO price 12c) before they got listed on Binance and mooned.

Also, I like the idea of Quantstamp. What I don't like is that there is 11m $ worth of presale. Also they want a POS (Proof of Shill) to participate in presale. So everyone is shilling it. I won't be investing in it unless I get a presale allocation. They've already audited smart contracts in the past. No way you can tell me you need 30 million to sustain business. That's bs. I don't even want to hear it.

They audited Request's smart contract. Presumably when they did they got paid in either cash or ETH, not in their bullshit token.
There is absolutely zero need for a tokenization business model here, if anything it makes it MORE difficult to accomplish what they want to do. They just want to do an ICO and get some free cash.

BTW Request will be going live on gate.io, a new exchange, on day 1. It will probably also be on other exchanges quickly afterwards.

^Agreed. I'm passing on it unless somehow I can get 100% bonus so I can dump it Day 1 for profit. They don't need 30m and it's retarded to have a token model for their business. It doesn't make any sense.

Free advertising sounds great in theory, but with all these amateur shills and artificial buzz, the projects reputation will be a joke by the time it hits exchanges.

Which is a shame, because Quantstamp does fix a big problem with smart contracts.

The Mercury Protocol whitelist closes soon.

Basically it is ODN but with autodelete messages, Ethereum and a better distribution of tokens.

I'd need a real good reason to get into an ICO right now.

Signed up for the whitelist but not sure if I'll go in. It in all likelyhood moon somewhat given because Mark Cuban.

But even a sure thing like this makes it difficult to get the motivation to even send the eth and then sell it. Don't know why.

The party will eventually come to an end but I think it actually still has a bit more time to go before you see anything spectacular. Yes it's a bubble but 170 billion is not a lot of money when all finance is taken into account.

The people that are in all the FB groups and Reddit are definitely true believers and there is a very powerful groupthink at play with HODLing no matter what. That's probably the main reason there hasn't been as much of what I would call a serious crash because the people seem way too emotionally invested to sell in large enough numbers to cause one.

Regarding the lack of motivation, I think that the amount of time and energy that I'm putting into this thing knowing full well that it's likely bullsht and that if I don't get out at the right time I'll be a bag holder is causing more stress than it's worth.

I put a lot of ETH into Request but am going to pull out quickly and start the process of cashing out my chips.

SamB has made a bit of a cynic out of me I guess because it's hard to refute what he says. I've made a lot of money and I'm not complaining but man it does stress me out knowing certain that the bubble is right above me at the moment at that it'll pop while I'm under it and all the gains and the original investment will be gone.

If you can, pull out your original investment + enough that if the whole thing dies you won't feel like you've wasted your time. The game gets much, much easier at that point.

I'm only just becoming aware of these facebook cryptocurrency groups. God, what a disaster that's going to be. I came down pretty hard on NewMeta for shilling Quantstamp, but I don't think anybody in this forum is playing with money they can't afford to lose. Nobody who takes a loss on Quantstamp is gonna lose their house. We're mostly single guys in our 20s and 30s, and that means low expenses and few responsibilities.

The people on Facebook seem like they're playing with money they can't afford to lose, though. When they realize that that shiny new altcoin they bought at the top is completely worthless, there's going to be a ton of human misery coming from this.

That's the plan. I'm bullish on blockchain in general but I'm going to wait until ERC20 mania dies before even thinking about getting back in.

Yeah the FB groups are filled w people that seriously do not know shit about crypto Kt even superficial level finance.

Again, there is this dynamic at play with the groupthink and hodling, moon memes, social shaming of 'weak hands', and this "we" spirit. "We are gonna make it guys!"

It's definitely going to be a shitshow when it crumbles.

Can you link me to some of the groups you're reading stuff on? i sometimes go on r/cryptocurrency but for redditors they're actually fairly intelligent.

I will when I get to my comp. it's the various largest groups of a given crypto.

I follow one of the ripple groups even though I don't have any and that one seems to be the one w a lot of the questions written in big letters like "should I go all in on xrp." Or "will the price go back up?" Like they are fishing for reaffirmation.

Just came out, way too early.. Even ICOs nowadays are not a great deal anymore but didn't expect some 3-4x the moment it gets listed on crappy ED. Next week there's new on ING and new exchanges, that will give a good pump.
