Among other places, I spent time in various Asian ports, includin' a month in Japan while me ship were bein' overhauled, to be sure. Last but not least, durin' me cadetship, I also experienced much more physical bullyin' (by a lubber who had 7" and 100lbs on me: he were bein' 6'4 and 240), and if I would handle it th' way people here assert I handle bullyin' I would certainly not survive long enough t' reach th' rank I reached. In short, I may be a newbie HERE but I be not a newbie in real life.

And it was certainly not something I intended to come across as a brag!) After that, I responded rudely enough to earn a seven day suspension and a 20% hike in my warning level. (My warning level was 60% because I broke the political newbie restriction by negligence. That was fully justified, IMO. I ignored a clear rule, and the fact that I forgot the rule is not a defense.)

I may have been stupid to feel free to talk. I may have been impertinent (although the way I see it is quite different). I may not respect hierarchy sufficiently; certainly not from the point of view of those who sit at the top, I’m sure (and I am not talking only about RVF here). But one thing I did not do is let anybody bully me or paint me as a lowlife without responding accordingly. Nor did I run to anybody crying for help. In a subsequent post, I’d like to comment on key posts that followed my suspension. I hope I can do it politely without being permanently banned for it. Essentially, the whole thing boils down to a series of misunderstandings that I hope to be able to clarify. But if I fail or if I “earn” a line through my name, so be it.
