If you were brainwashed from birth that being a slave is okay, it's hard to make that cognitive jump. If you have never tasted freedom, you won't know how amazing it is.

This is the reason black slaves were so popular in North America. The average African was brainwashed from birth that he is nothing compared to the big chieftain, and that he is basically owned by him.

From a cultural perspective, black people were easier to use as slaves because that's what the home continent's culture taught them to be from birth.

One can argue about which people treated their slaves better, but for a lot of slaves being shipped to North America merely meant a change of skin colour in their masters.

The big chief syndrome remains a problem in Africa.

So are certain people impossible to enslave, like Arabs and Native Americans? Like the Romans and the Germanic tribes?

But to be fair - slavery was prevalent in Europe for a long time until Christianity gained a foothold. And even after it was gone, they initiated serfdom which was pretty close or they even had White slaves in the colonies (including USA - first slaves in the US were white). Also - Germanic tribes were enslaved by Romans.

China also had slavery for a long time. China funnily enough was one the first places where the rulers realized it would be better to stop slavery, since the slave farmers and workers were less productive than free peasants.

I think the only group that is willing to rather die than be enslaved are the American Indians. Muslims won't be enslaved because they are told to be masters. There were Arab slaves before Islam, but it was the religion which changed things for them and it was a big reason why they began capturing whites and blacks on a grand scale for 1400 years.

Needless to say - slavery is a fully idiotic institution that is not only fundamentally flawed, but also holds back the advance of a civilization - since any technologically improving invention lowers the value of labor of a slave, so the 2% slave holding population is instantly against it. If you want to advance in a society, you have to abandon slavery quickly.

For example:

That is a Roman Antikythera mechanism. The Romans back then had astronomy, solid mathematics, central heating, warm water and water pipelines, public baths etc. I would make the prediction that if they abandoned slavery and went towards modern universities, public schools, then Rome would have gone towards industrial revolution in the year 200. But instead they got slave pussy and then got wiped out a few centuries later.

Yeah - keeping your stupid slavery was soo much better.....

Damn Zel, I seriously learn more from everything you post on here & twitter than I do anywhere else and the subject matter is exactly the kind I am very interested in too. +1 Repping you! Thanks so so much

I doubt it. Remember that your lower level, millenial leftist isn't good at critical thinking. They're largely like trained dogs who emote in response to programmed cues like the word "racism" and "socialism". Easy_C

I only have one source for this. But I once read a book about Calhoun which told a story of a freed slave actually coming back to him. Life for a free African American could be extremely difficult back in those days.

Why do people obey ridiculous laws? Why do people pay taxes? Why do people allow themselves to be drafted into the military? Why do people vote?

There were Arab slaves before Islam, but it was the religion which changed things for them and it was a big reason why they began capturing whites and blacks on a grand scale for 1400 years.

Many of the black African slaves in the US were Muslim:

The Muslims of Early America

Quote:Muslims arrived here before the founding of the United States — not just a few, but thousands.

They have been largely overlooked because they were not free to practice their faith. They were not free themselves and so they were for the most part unable to leave records of their beliefs. They left just enough to confirm that Islam in America is not an immigrant religion lately making itself known, but a tradition with deep roots here, despite being among the most suppressed in the nation’s history.

In 1528, a Moroccan slave called Estevanico was shipwrecked along with a band of Spanish explorers near the future city of Galveston, Tex. The city of Azemmour, in which he was raised, had been a Muslim stronghold against European invasion until it fell during his youth. While given a Christian name after his enslavement, he eventually escaped his Christian captors and set off on his own through much of the Southwest.

Two hundred years later, plantation owners in Louisiana made it a point to add enslaved Muslims to their labor force, relying on their experience with the cultivation of indigo and rice. Scholars have noted Muslim names and Islamic religious titles in the colony’s slave inventories and death records.

The best known Muslim to pass through the port at New Orleans was Abdul-Rahman Ibrahim ibn Sori, a prince in his homeland whose plight drew wide attention. As one newspaper account noted, he had read the Bible and admired its precepts, but added, “His principal objections are that Christians do not follow them.”

Among the enslaved Muslims in North Carolina was a religious teacher named Omar ibn Said. Recaptured in 1810 after running away from a cruel master he called a kafir (an infidel), he became known for inscribing the walls of his jail cell with Arabic script. He wrote an account of his life in 1831, describing how in freedom he had loved to read the Quran, but in slavery his owners had converted him to Christianity.

The story of Islam in early America is not merely one of isolated individuals. An estimated 20 percent of enslaved Africans were Muslims, and many sought to recreate the communities they had known. In Georgia, which has joined more than a dozen states in the political theater of debating a restriction on judges’ consulting Shariah, Muslims on a secluded plantation are known to have lived under the guidance of a religious leader who wrote a manuscript on Islamic law so that traditional knowledge might survive.

A clue to what happened to these forgotten American Muslims can be found in the words of a missionary traveling through the South to preach the gospel on slave plantations. Many “Mohammedan Africans,” he noted, had found ways to “accommodate” Islam to the new beliefs imposed upon them. “God, say they, is Allah, and Jesus Christ is Mohammed. The religion is the same, but different countries have different names.”

It's more genes than culture. Places like China had strong selective pressure for compliance over individualism, which is why they have never had any representative govt. Western Europe had the exact opposite.
