work pickups - advice
so i know that generally, one shouldn't dip one's pen in the company ink. however, if you don't work in the same department it can work. quick bit of background, i'm the IT guy, so i meet all the new chicks when they get hired and i set up their computer, etc. now, my question is, if in a moment of weak game i totally dropped the ball and didn't try to set a date, is there any way to recover? i don't see this girl very often (different departments) so i'm trying to think of how to get her out sometime. my thinking, and let me know if you got something better, is to just stop by her desk (damn cubes, too many people around listening to my weak ass game) and say hey, let's go to happy hour today. any better ideas? thanks.

See this is a tough one. I do Engineering so there are very little women around where I work. Most of them work in a different building entirely. We have 4 buildings all next to each other. Same Company.
Try to get invited to a happy hour outing and make friends. Exchange cards or at least make a note of their names.
I've gamed women at work over e-mail successfully before. Invite them out to a group lunch or something at first. Then solo after.
I've sent NET SEND messages to them once in a while. It gets a laugh. Plus it's private and no record like e-mail.
You can mess up their computer remotely. It'll give you an excuse to interact with them again.
Go out for smoke breaks and figure out when they go and where.
Just keep it light and friendly. Last thing they want is a creepy office stalker.
