Why would anyone be surprised? When a bloodthirsty dog fighting for territory rips a chunk out of their flank and the GOP responds by rolling on to its back and baring its neck then what the fuck does anyone think is going to happen?

Credibility matters in the long run. It's one thing to ignore stuff like that or even be an apologist. It's another thing to ruin your own reputation by spreading a fake story. Unless it's recognizable as satire or hyperbole, sharing a hoax just makes you look like a gullible fool to most people. For me that's not worth a visceral reaction from a small minority of people who already need no more reasons to hate antifa. Unless it's actually true, of course.

Is great Mike is using the same style of editing as left wings media, short videos packed with simple information about the subject, those short videos are consumed a lot by young people that have a short time span of attention.
