High-rises are potential death-threats, so they have either to have good design or sprinkler systems.

British construction was notoriously bad up until very recently. For example one may say a lot about the communists, but they had good engineers in countries like Poland. I read occasionally about fires in the old communist blocks that were also built in the 1960s and 70s. They don't have sprinkler systems, but the the end results of a blazing fire in one apartment looks like this:



Worst case extent - the main danger actually coming from below due to the heat reaching the connected ventilation and gas-exit shafts of each apartment.

The concrete blocks between apartments are tight. The gas lines are fire-proof, there are fire extinguishers on every floor, there is also a fire hose that can be activated by everyone on each floor and directed even by a local. There is nothing that could burn in the staircase, so that escape routes are not barred. And those were engineers in the 1960s. The reason why there was better construction in central Europe and EE than in the UK is because there was regulated qualification market for builders, trade education and unions.

Ah well - the UK is on it's way to a developing country. Paying for all the diversity and anti-terror defense will bankrupt most Western nations sooner or later.

This type of building is old and built with old requirements and standards. The only problem they have was substituting fire proof/resistant materials with low grade shit from India or China as they do when they want to save a quick buck.

The council is Labour run and Corbyn is trying to score political points off of this when it is a Labour area. Tories are getting it in the neck from champaign socialists and limousine liberals because those cocksuckers have no integrity just like that fat bitch Adelle and that irrelevant dick rider lilly Allen.

Er, the government has a mania for overregulation, not deregulation. The building was clad in expensive and highly flammable materials because of government decrees on thermal insulation, not because someone randomly felt like it!

Actually it is both.

They deregulate where it counts - fire hazard, safety, property prices (many European governments offer semi-private housing schemes, that provide competition to the fully private market and thus keep prices much lower - the property owners prefer a fully "deregulated" market).

But they regulate like anal bastards where it counts less - global warming and insulation to "save energy" or we are all going to die. They regulate also hateful comments and Islamophobia like crazy but don't care to regulate stable borders or a sound immigration policy.
