A while ago I was pointing out to a mate of certain predictable patterns of Lesbians preferring Socialism and, being careful here... unusual attitudes about child sexuality.
He always kept bringing up his sister (a lesbian) who 'totally isn't like that', even though a few years back, she asked him to impregnate her partner so they could have a child.
However, he was one of the people involved who had seen a three-year-boy walk out into a party, drop his trousers, and start putting a pencil in front of his arse in front of horrified guests, showing them the 'game' the kid said one of his Lesbian Mothers had taught him, and then resulting horror show as the birth parents tried, and failed, to get the police and family courts to deny the sexual abuser's access to the child.
As such, this soured him on 'non-traditional' family structures, so he said no to his Sister, and the couple found some other financial sucker sperm donor. He said at the time that he thought 'Kids need a father and mother, and it wouldn't be fair on the kid."
We haven't caught up for a while, and since I'm about to head out of the country, he popped round at lunch. He brought up "All the fucking fuss over the NFL thing", and how "absolutely-fucking-sick" he was of this "constant whinging from everyone about how much harder they have it than everyone else," and "maybe a nuclear war wouldn't be the worst thing in the world if it shuts people the fuck up."
Since he's normally a mild-mannered, easy-going guy, this was interesting.
Apparently, his Wife had been posting her reasoning for voting 'No' on Facebook - it was polite and rational enough - and then his Sister jumped into the thread, and all hell broke loose.
He looked at me, and shook his head. "Bosch, you were right all along. It all came out: Socialism; all men are evil; the patriarchy and the traditional nuclear family must be destroyed; already teaching [his nephew] about asking permission to touch others, then refusing him hugs and making him cry if he doesn't ask first; walking around naked in front of the kid; losing their shit if he shows any interest in male toys."
They live in different cities, so he only sees her once a year or so since his teens, and, as such, said "I don't think I've really known what she turned into for years."
Of course, I already knew all this. Hippie parents, second wave feminist mother. The women who 'infected' my mother, (and it always felt like she'd caught a disease), were always walking around naked and bring up sexual matters with very-disinterested, pre-sexual children. I always struck me as tragic that the women who constantly-brought up the 'natural beauty' of the naked body were the ugliest ones imaginable.
He continued on, "My Wife was very polite with her, but my Sister... man, she was fucking-nasty. I never knew she was so crazy, and exactly how fucked up the shit she believes in is."
It ended up with his Sister doing a Flounce and dramatically-unfriending his wife, but then she was instantly-on the phone to him, telling him he should leave his wife, and he had to choose between his wife or her.
He said "I was thinking back over the years to the stuff that happened to us...", (alcoholic father, mother divorced him and kept him away from them for twenty years, mother fucked her way through man after man until her looks gave out, then classic Beta Bucks marriage and now lives like a Queen in another town to her husband), "... and I realised how much Mum and her used to poison me against Dad in the years he wasn't there, and I suddenly-realised, they're both nasty pieces of work. I know I'm supposed to love them, but when I look at their behaviour over the years, I feel like I was asleep. All they ever did was emotionally-manipulate me."
I remembered his Mother trying to break up his marriage. "You two never fight. You need to yell at each other or there's no passion". This is why she had twenty years of having a new boyfriend to match her monthly cycle. Meanwhile, him and his Wife simply talk through their problems reasonably without trying to attack or blame each other, because they both grew up in households where the parents fought all the time, and think being adults and not trying to hurt someone you supposedly-love is better.
I pointed this to him at the time, but he wasn't ready to hear it.
But now? He finally told his Sister to fuck off, and when the Mother rang a few minutes later, her too. Since I've always found both of them a manipulative piece of shit, but never thought he'd ever have the blinkers removed from his eyes, all I can say is, if this whole vote fails, at least there's hope that other people will see exactly what their 'loved ones' are.
Once again, all truth is being revealed, and the choices are being made. Interesting times.
