My experience with gardening is that you get your first summer free so you think you're an expert, then the subsequent years you spend learning about fertilizer, tree shade, caterpillars, mildew, stem rot, hardening seedlings, pellet gun resistant deer that like tomato leaves for some reason, and last but not least the endless entertainment squirrels seem to get from messing up anything you try to do in your yard.
