JetBlue Kicks Family Off Plane Because of a Cake
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-...-cake.html
Quote:Family was kicked off JetBlue flight after 'improperly storing' their birthday cake
Now I'm I huge fan of Jetblue, and I'm disappointed in them, but this takes the cake.
This isn't really as newsworthy as United fucking up a doctor, but I wanted to share this because 15 minutes after reading this I'm still laughing my ass off.
The second rated comment at the bottom is, "Cakes on a plane." Maybe I'm just drunk, but that's funny as fuck!

Obvious question is whether it was a pound cake.
By the looks of her ass, it was more than just a pound.
And I had some of the same questions as you guys. Why in the hell does anyone fly with a cake? And why isn't it a security risk? Anyone that's watched the Three Stooges knows that it's the perfect place to conceal things.
The only time anyone should be flying with food is outbound from San Salvador. That chicken place at the airport is phenomenal. Every flight out of El Sal smells like fried chicken. If any of you can go down there and figure out their secret you could put KFC and Church's out of business. I'll come work for you if you'll pay me in free chicken.
Anyhow, United fucked us over when they dragged the gay doc off their flight. Now any time anyone is refused boarding for any reason it's international news. And yeah, it's my fault for clicking on the shit, but I wanted to hear about Cakes on a Plane!!

If TSA tells you you can't bring it on then throw it the fuck away or if you bring it on and a flight attendant tells you to take it out of the overhead bin then take it the fuck out of the overhead bin so the plane can get the fuck going.
I think it's more the airlines being dicks these days than the TSA. It seems that someone told air crews that after 9/11 there's a "How Dare You" factor for not licking their feet and they can and will throw anyone off a plane just because they don't like you. And it's not all airlines, I normally like Jetblue and Delta and SouthWest. They're pretty nice. But American and United can fuck off.
Remember this about the TSA... Those people get mistreated all day long and in spite of that, they usually have very good attitudes. They've been more than fair to me in the past and they were very professional doing it. I don't know what they earn but I figure it's not much.
I got off a plane in ATL from S. America with two bottles of rum. I had just spent 4 hours in Customs because I'm a single guy coming from Colombia and surely I'm a drug mule. I missed my flight, rebooked, and then spent over an hour in the line to go through TSA. I'm pretty ill at this point. The TSA guy says, "You can't have these bottles in your carry on, sir." I said, "I just flew in with these bottles in my bag!" He says, "But you're you're in the US now. Can't have these." I guess he could see the look of defeat on my face and says, "Listen, I don't want to take your rum. Go back to Delta and they'll check it for you." I pointed at the line and said, "That took me over an hour to get here. I'll miss my plane again." The TSA guy points to his nametag on his shirt and tells me, "Go to that lady at that desk and ask for me. I'll come get you and send you through." And he did. And he didn't have to.
So, I have to agree. They're not fucking around at the airport. You're not going to win any pissing match no matter who's right. Just do it unless you wanna take the bus. And if you're respectful to them, they might show you some kindness.

RE: JetBlue Kicks Family Off Plane Because of a Cake
Many years ago (pre-9/11) I worked with a guy whose wife was Danish. When their daughter was getting married, the wife made a special trip to Denmark to fetch some sort of traditional cake for the wedding, and carefully brought it back as carry-on. Some delicate thing, that I seem to recall her having to hold on her lap for the whole 12 hours. A couple years later (2002 I think), I was returning from a vacation in Scandinavia and actually saw a woman carrying one of these things - the box was about 10" on a side and maybe 12-14" tall, and hung from strings like a marionette. The woman had a bulkhead seat, and the thing sat on the floor in front of her.
So, carrying cakes on a plane is apparently not as unusual as it seems. At least, not if you're a Danish mother-in-law-to-be. (Note that "not unusual" does not mean "not dumb". Whatever the cake is, traditional or favorite or whatever, it's just a recipe - surely you can find someone near your home or destination to make the exact same thing without inconveniencing yourself and others this way.)
The only reason this is getting attention is because of the United doctor incident. As I said in one of the other threads on this topic, concern with "airline abuse of customers" is just the mass hysteria du jour (like "scary clowns" was this time last year). The spotlight is on this topic, the media is looking for any exploitable story to both tap into and amplify public interest, and people are themselves escalating normally trivial incidents to turn them into exploitable, attention-grabbing/whoring outrages - if not manufacturing incidents altogether. The concern will evaporate overnight as soon as some fresh new mass hysteria emerges (or the state defuses the drama by imposing additional useless-but-annoying regulations on airlines and/or passengers).

I've only taken a handful of Jetblue flights, but every plane I was on looked brand new. I had my own TV and the crew were very nice.
Last year they sat me next to a couple with a baby and I swear to god if there's a baby on the plane my ass will be right next to it. And then the stewardess said, "Will you get your bag and come with me, sir?" I thought I was in trouble or some shit. She moved me to an empty row with more leg room to get me my own spot. I've been pretty damn happy with them.

I agree. When thousands of people start dumping Verizon because their customer service is shit, that makes me happy. It will usually wake them up and make them a better company.
I don't like monopolies. Competition is good. You ever deal with the goddamn phone company prior to the rise of cell phones? Ma Bell had no incentive to be even the slightest bit nice to you. They were evil as fuck. What else you gonna do, not have a telephone? If Satan ever owned a corporation, it would be Bell. It's still the same way with the power company. You want power at your house, then you have to jump through their hoops or else you won't have electricity.

it wasn't TSA, it was a flight attendant.
Its legal to have a cake. Flight attendant decided otherwise. Flight attendant is not special. A cake is not a security risk. This is 'Murica!
I know it wasn't TSA I just gave that as an example. And I'm pretty sure the flight attendant told them to take it out of the overhead bin and put it under the seat, not that they had to take it off the plane. It wasn't about the cake being a security risk it was about the cake leaking or spilling and
getting all over shit. These people clearly just wanted to make make a big deal out of nothing since they knew someone would be filming.
And yes it's legal to have a cake. It's also legal to turn left into a neighborhood from a busy street with no left turn lane and lots of traffic coming the other way, holding up a ton of traffic in the process and creating a huge backup. Legal, but it makes you a huge fucking dickhead.
Edit: Not saying that simply bringing on the cake makes them a dickhead, but that arguing and making a huge deal out of being told to put it under the seat, causing a huge delay, makes them a dickhead.

They're always powertripping. And in a lot of times they ARE wrong.
However, I have learned from my interactions with them and also all these news reports that if it means getting from point A to point B as quickly as possible then I should swallow my pride and do whatever they tell me to do even if I disagree with it.
They look like a nice family, but all the emotional and logistical issues are just not worth it for a $15 cake, checking an oversize bag, turning off your laptop when asked, or whatever the demon stewardesses ask.
I'm old enough to remember when, to be hired as a flight attendant, you had to be 1) female, 2) young, 3) attractive, 4) thin (planes are tight!!), and 5) good natured. Not sure what happened. Now you either have to be a snarky faggot or a fat middle-aged cow with a baaaad attitude. WTF??

Yes, and those young, attractive, thin, good-natured female flight attendants are now the poorly tuned, shrieking elderly women who 40 years later, still work as flight attendants on modern day airlines.
I fly regularly and I've seen how this works.
"I can count on one hand, literally, the number of women I have ever met that can take that kind of advice, accept it and make use of it without their epic egos setting metaphorical fire to the conversation.
Most women "looking for advice" are in reality looking for someone to validate their cosmic victimhood, because it's not really their fault, because it's never their fault. This behavioural trait isn't absent among men, but when we fail society cares not, while when women fail there is no shortage of comforting platitudes on offer from every vector."
