RE: The Ethereum Thread (the alt coin to Bitcoin)
Finally LTC went above my absurd buy in from May 25 of $34. Sold that shit at $40. $6 was good enough for me even thought it ended up topping at 47. Oh well. I'll buy again if it dips.

Cashed out of my $225 and $300 ETH buy ins at $374, too. I'm also cashed out of my BTC. It makes no sense holding any of these in the long term when you an profit so much harvesting the roller coaster.

If I eventually buy and hold I'll have several more shares than I would have initially. I may even cash out my original investment. Then I really don't have to care about letting the rest ride for the long term.

Sitting on a mountain of USDT at the moment. Wondering what coin has the wildest swings to profit on next? Everything is overvalued considering recent dips. Put in a limit buy on BTC for $2450 but don't it to fall that far in the next day or two.

This was actually a good call for a quick trade, as it's twice bounced down to around 2450 and then back up to 2500-2520. It's kind of trending down though, and the next time it's below 2450 might not come back for a while. (a while could be 24 hours)

Question is if anyone wants to risk 2450 for 50 - 70. Risk reward seems bad to me. Of course if it goes up more than that it's another story.

Are we talking about wishes, or actually attempting to describe facts.

about one week ago, there were two legs of a correction down from $2,980 to $2,120

Currently, the consolidation range in bitcoin seems to be about $2300 to $2650..

yes it could break up or down from that range.. but trending down does not seem to be a proper description, unless you are just referring to random movements within the consolidation range.

Maybe we could be in the high end of the consolidation range or maybe we could be in the low end of the consolidation range or maybe we can redescribe the consolidation range because it is not being described correctly, but if you attempt to call these trends or price ranges on short terms, your predictions are going to be all over the place.

It seems to me that price ranges have to be considered in a bit of a broader context in order to describe them as either up, down or flat, and a few days of one direction does not seem to be enough unless prices are breaking out of the consolidation range... or about to break out of the consolidation range.

In this particular case, over the weekend, BTC prices have largely been going up within the consolidation range and causing the consolidation range to go up and to be redescribed as higher. which seems to be making a third leg correction less and less likely (even though a third leg correction is still within reasonable probabilities such a third leg correction seems to be becoming less likely rather than more likely).

Sure we have had a few price corrections back down within the consolidation range, but nothing really to write home about, especially in recent times when the price is still moving back and forth a couple hundred dollars a day (which is about 8% in todays prices). In other words, we continue to have a lot of price movement on the short term, and we do not seem to have any kind of meaningful price stability or ability to call a trend, except for what seems to be a recovery from the latest correction that is making a third leg less and less likely...

On the other hand if prices start to move within the bottom of the price range, then maybe at that point, we could start to anticipate another downward price correction..

You Won't Believe This Stupid New Law Against Cash And Bitcoin

Tyler Durden's picture
by Tyler Durden
Jun 14, 2017 7:20 PM

“Combating Money Laundering, Terrorist Financing, and Counterfeiting Act of 2017.”

You can probably already guess its contents.

Cash is evil.

Bitcoin is evil.

Now they’ve gone so far to include prepaid mobile phones, retail gift vouchers, or even electronic coupons. Evil, evil, and evil.
These people are certifiably insane.

Among the bill’s sweeping provisions, the government aims to greatly extend its authority to seize your assets through “Civil Asset Forfeiture”.

Civil Asset Forfeiture rules allow the government to take whatever they want from you, without a trial or any due process.

This new bill adds a laundry list of offenses for which they can legally seize your assets… all of which pertain to money laundering and other financial crimes.

Here’s the thing, though: they’ve also vastly expanded on the definition of such ‘financial crimes’, including failure to fill out a form if you happen to be transporting more than $10,000 worth of ‘monetary instruments’.

Have too much cash? You’d better tell the government.

If not, they’re authorizing themselves in this bill to seize not just the money you didn’t report, but ALL of your assets and bank accounts.

They even go so far as to specifically name “safety deposit boxes” among the various assets that they can seize if you don’t fill out the form.

(Yet another reason to consider storing cash, gold, and silver in an overseas safety deposit box.)

This is unbelievable on so many levels.

It’s crazy to begin with that these people are so consumed by the fact that someone has $10,000 in cash.

But it’s even crazier that they’re threatening to take EVERYTHING that you own merely for not filling out a piece of paper, without any due process whatsoever.

Oh, and on top of civil asset forfeiture penalties, there are also criminal penalties.

Right now according to current law they can imprison you for up to FIVE YEARS for not filling out the form. Five years.

But apparently that doesn’t go far enough to protect us against evil men in caves.

So this bill aims to double the criminal penalty to TEN years in prison.

And if that weren’t enough, this bill also gives them with new authority to engage in surveillance and wiretapping (including phone, email, etc.) if they have even a hint of suspicion that you might be transporting excess ‘monetary instruments’.

Usually wiretapping authority is reserved for major crimes like kidnapping, human trafficking, felony fraud, etc.

Now we can add cash to that list.

It’s not just government spy agencies to worry about, either.

Banks in the US are already unpaid government spies, required by law to fill out suspicious activity reports on their customers.

Then Congress started expanding those requirements to include other businesses and industries that might come into contact with cash.

Stock brokers. Casinos. Currency exchanges. Precious metals dealers. Pawnbrokers. The Post Office.

According to the law (section 5312 of US Code Title 31), those industries are also required to spy on their customers for the government.

But under this new bill, they want to forcibly recruit even more unpaid spies, including any business which issues or redeems ANYTHING that’s prepaid.

Prepaid credit cards. Prepaid phones. Prepaid retail gift cards. Prepaid coupons.

So, Amazon.com, which issues and redeems prepaid gift cards, will be required under this bill to file reports to the government.

For that matter, TGI Fridays and Chuckee Cheese will also become unpaid government spies since they both issue and redeem prepaid vouchers.

Truly these Senators have figured out how to strike at the heart of ISIS.

Further, their bill wants to pull any business which “issues” cryptocurrency under the anti-money laundering regulatory umbrella.

Here’s where these people demonstrate that they have no idea what they’re talking about.

No one “issues” Bitcoin. There’s no Bitcoin central bank. There’s no Chairman of Bitcoin who decides on a whim to increase the supply.

Bitcoin is created automatically amounts that are pre-determined by its code. It’s software.

So the Senate is essentially trying to force the Bitcoin core software to comply with money laundering regulations.

How pathetically clueless.

The bill also attempts to drop a major bomb on Bitcoin by including it in the list of monetary instruments that must be reported when entering or leaving the US.

So theoretically if you leave the US with more than $10,000 in Bitcoin or Ether, you’d have to confess this fact to the authorities or otherwise face the aforementioned penalties, i.e. prison time, civil asset forfeiture, etc.
As Smaulgold.com's Louis Cammarosano explains, the bill contains a provision that would require the Secretary of Homeland Security and the Commissioner of U.S. Customs and Border Protection to devise a “border protection strategy to interdict and detect prepaid access devices, digital currencies, or other similar instruments, at border crossings and other ports of entry for the United States, including an assessment of infrastructure needed [emphasis added] to carry out the strategy.”

The respective Secretary and Commissioner would present their findings to Congress no later than 18 months after passage of the bill.

The obligation to declare amounts in any form over $10,000 exists, irrespective of whether custom officials have a way of detecting such holdings. Since digital currencies technically travel with the holder where ever the holder goes, one would have to declare one’s entire crypto portfolio each time the holder entered the U.S.

Such a declaration is not required for travelers who may happen to have bank accounts or precious metals worth more than $10,000 stored outside the United States.

The type of infrastructure required to detect foreign holdings may come in the form of (i) expanding Foreign Account Tax Compliance Act to currently unregulated foreign crypto currency exchanges and to non U.S. citizens. FATCA currently only applies to U.S account holders of certain foreign financial and non financial institutions; (ii) some type of global monitoring of blockchain activity; or (iii) extreme vetting at the border and penalties for non disclosure that would encourage full disclosure.

RE: The Ethereum Thread (the alt coin to Bitcoin)
One of the weird things I'm getting used to is the price fluctuations vary considerably from one exchange to another. I like to watch real time prices on gdax but place my USDT orders on poloniex.

I thought my limit buy if BTC $2450 didn't trigger bc I was watching prices on Coinbase while I went out for Father's Day. However it hit that low on poloniex and they don't notify you of a trade. You have to manually navigate away from their exchange page to see if open orders have filled.

This trade history isn't available on the mobile site. You can only see open orders. So if an order disappeared assume it executed. Or just deduce it executed by refreshing the exchange page and looking at your available balances in the trade box. This is really only a good option if you're trading in and out of one coin.

Kind of annoying but the easiest way around all this is to make sure Blockfolio has price alerts for whatever exchange and coins you're using. It gets annoying so just put a one time alert instead of continual.

Viola you can day trade to USDT while doing other things.

RE: The Ethereum Thread (the alt coin to Bitcoin)
How to use USDT as a less volatile store of value without triggering bitcoin ether Altz taxable events...

https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.cryptoc...geAMPGuide

What is USDT and how to use it

What is USDT (Tether)

If you use Poloniex or Bittrex, then you have probably seen the USDT market a few times and you may even use it regularly. However, some may not be fully aware of what USDT truly is and how it works.

USDT is a cryptocurrency asset issued on the Bitcoin blockchain via the Omni Layer Protocol. Each USDT unit is backed by a U.S Dollar held in the reserves of the Tether Limited and can be redeemed through the Tether Platform. USDT can be transferred, stored, spent, just like bitcoins or any other cryptocurrency, users can transact and store tethers with any Omni Layer enabled wallet like Ambisafe, Holy Transaction or Omni Wallet.

USDT and other Tether currencies were created to facilitate the transfer of national currencies, to provide users with a stable alternative to Bitcoin and to provide an alternative for exchange and wallet audits which are currently unreliable. USDT provides an alternative to Proof of Solvency methods by introducing a Proof of Reserves Process.

In the Tether Proof of Reserves system, the amount of USDT in circulations can be easily checked on the Bitcoin blockchain via the tools provided at Omnichest.info, while the corresponding total amount of USD held reserves is proved by publishing the bank balance and undergoing periodic audits by professionals.

One can check the USDT in circulation here. The total number of USDT in circulation at any time be denoted as TUSD. The amount of USDT in circulation must always correspond to the amount of USD in the bank account used by Tether Limited to receive and send fiat currency to users who
purchase/redeem tethers directly on the Tether Platform.

To prove that the amount of USD in the bank account is the same or more than the USDT in circulation, Tether Limited publishes the bank account balance on its website’s Transparency page. Professional auditors will regularly verify, sign, and publish the underlying bank balance and financial transfer statement.

We’re left with an extremely safe and transparent system that relies on the oldest and most secure blockchain, Bitcoin, to provide users with a price-stable asset for national currencies.

How to use USDT

USDT is fairly simple to use. Once on exchanges like Poloniex or Bittrex, it can be used to purchase Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies. It can be easily transferred from an exchange to any Omni Layer enabled wallet. Tether has no transaction fees, although external wallets and exchanges may charge one. In order to convert USDT to USD and vise versa through the Tether.to Platform, users must pay a small fee - Read more.

Buying and selling Tether for Bitcoin can be done through a variety of exchanges like the ones mentioned previously or through the Tether.to platform, which also allows the conversion between USD to and from your bank account.

We are going to show you how to use the Tether.to Platform.

Part 1 - Create an account with Tether.io

Step 1: Click here to go to Tether.to
Step 2: Click “Signup” to create an account

Step 3: Fill in your personal details and click “Create Account”

Step 4: Your account will be created. In order to use it, you must activate 2-factor authentication, which will also add an extra layer of security to your account. Click “Security Page”

Your email will be confirmed

Part 2 - Verify your Identity

In order to deposit or withdraw USD, you must first go through a verification process

Step 1: Click "yourusername" on the upper right corner

Step 2: Click "Verification"

Step 3: Choose "Individual Verification"

Step 4: Now scroll down. Take some time to read the information displayed as it will help with the verification process
Step 5: Click "Continue to Individual Verification"

Step 6: Complete all sections displayed to fully veirfy your account. Click "Begin" to start each section

Part 3 - Send/Recieve/Withdraw

Sending and recieving USDT is pretty straight forward. You will be given a Bitcoin wallet address which you can use to recieve USDT funds. All you need to do is go to "Add Funds":

You will be shown a wallet address which can be used to recieve USDT or Bitcoin:

To Recieve funds from your bank account click "Fund from Bank" and follow the instructions shown

To send USDT or Bitcoin simply go to "Send Funds"

Then simply enter the Bitcoin address and amount of USDT you want to send.
To convert and send USDT to your bank account click "Withdraw" and follow the instructions shown

Lastly, you can also convert your BTC to USDT and vice-versa. Simply click "Convert" and follow the instructions shown

And that's it! You can now use USDT freely. Remember that to convert USDT to USD and vice-versa you need to verify your account.

RE: The Ethereum Thread (the alt coin to Bitcoin)
Several Dutch banks are already involved with Ethereum, Quote from a Dutch newspaper today:

Google translate

"The money that Dutch bank accountants transfer to each other will be on the beneficiary's account within a few seconds from May 2019. This is evidenced by the annual report of the Social Consultation Payments (MOB) published on Monday.

Now only transfers to accounts at the same bank are processed immediately. Transfers to another bank will be processed on the same day and sometimes on the day after workdays depending on the time.

"A bank transfer to someone at another bank can take four days during holidays," says a spokesman for the Netherlands Payment Society. "A transfer on Thursday evening after five o'clock, for example after Good Friday and Easter will be on account of the beneficiary only Tuesday morning."

This long transfer period is according to the spokesman along with the opening hours of the European Central Bank (ECB), which serves as a link for all payment transactions between European banks,

For a long time, Europe has been sent to 'instant' processing of digital payments. The ECB is also preparing its systems for this. In November, the system of rules and agreements for such payments will be presented by the ECB and can start countries with their own systems. The Netherlands has already taken an advance. In the meantime, the design of the Dutch system has been completed and construction started."

So apparently poloniex and gdax the price crashed down to below 300 for a few minutes before skyrocketing back up to 350.

I think one of the recent ICO's liquidated some of their ETH to collect/hedge some profits. Could have been Bancor or Status.

RE: The Ethereum Thread (the alt coin to Bitcoin)
I suspect that in the coming months there are going to be quite a few reports coming out like this - describing insider trading type issues with various ICOs.

https://medium.com/unchained-reports/ban...bb00871e86

I understand that some RVF guys are getting in and out of these coins.. but some are considering them as possible long term investments, and ONE of the issues with various ICOs is that they put out some theoretical paper, but they have very little actual development or implementation. So, once they get the money, they may have little incentive to actually do the work, yet it could take one or two years before anyone really expects concrete performance. Surely, sometimes, performance and results will be expected on an earlier timeline, and so will likely vary from project to project, and I suppose we will see how some of these play out in terms of actual performance.. or how long it will take to sink in regarding a likely frequent vaporware theme.

Who is jumping on the Civic ICO tomorrow? I've made it a point to limit my exposure to ICO's and most tokens that don't have a product out before token sale. So the fact that Civic's product is already out (in fact you need it to participate in the ICO) with great backing and a solid business model gives me a lot more confidence than some fly-by-night-coin.

This motherfucker going out... his legs... they was like... linguini!

I think one of the recent ICO's liquidated some of their ETH to collect/hedge some profits. Could have been Bancor or Status.

I was looking for what you were describing in the various charts, and your way of describing the situation seems to be misunderstanding what seems to be going on.

Sure, I saw a dip, and the dip was simultaneously on all of the exchanges that are trading ETH. What happened is there was a dump which frequently is a test of support, and the dump could have come from anyone or even been kind of contagious once it starts.

But the essence of the dump was to push the price to below previous low points which sometimes eats away at support and causes holders to question whether they should continue to hold, and the recovery was not "skyrocketting," but instead a recovery that largely brought ETH prices to a little bit below their previous prices, and then subsequently throughout today, we have seen a trickling of support, and a slow downward bleeding.

I don't really know where the ETH price is going to go, but it remains an important thing to watch because it is connected with the price of a lot of ICOs that get in and out through ETH.

Also, of course there is some relationship with bitcoin too, and whether or not that relationship is based on misinformation and propaganda does not matter as much as just monitoring how some of the matter may play out and can cause additional reverse correlation. and then maybe some questioning how much support is going to be able to hold. We may need a few more days and even a week to see if the trend is changing and whether there is going to be correlation or reverse correlation between bitcoin and ETH, for example.

^^No you seem to not have an understanding of what was going on. Why is it you must critique and write 10x paragraph responses to every post that isn't BTC maximal crazy. FUDster to the core.

I saw it happen live. You don't know what you are talking about. Spreading illegible misinformation again.

Moving on.

O.k. I am waiting for you to enlightenment us on these various topics.

I think that you were referring to my above post discussion of how to more accurately describe ETH market movements, no?

I understand that attempting to describe the market movement while it is happening can be a little bit different from attempting to describe such market movement after the lapse of a bit of time, so in that regard, my description of today's ETH market movement would have been different from DarkWing Buck's description because my post was written 10 hours later.

Are we getting into actually being wrong about direction or having different opinions about how to describe market movements?

For example, we may have different opinions about what is driving the market, too, and we could be weighing some factors differently, too.
