RE: The Ethereum Thread (the alt coin to Bitcoin)
Do any of you guys use a mobile app for a wallet? If so what's a good one.

Or do you guys keep your coins on the exchanges?

Not sure. I have block chain but I only use parity and exchanges (temp holding)

RE: The Ethereum Thread (the alt coin to Bitcoin)
If you want to use a mobile wallet, I'd recommend Jaxx. It's pretty good and easy to use.

Only caveat is that it's technically a hot wallet not cold wallet.

Meaning your private keys (password to your coins) is exposed to the internet. Theoretically someone could hack your phone and gain access to your coins. Jaxx doesn't store your private key, but your phone does.

I'd peg this chance extremely low under 5%. But it is a risk.

A hard wallet your private key is never exposed online. Ledger Nano S, Trevor, or paper wallets used on air-gapped computers are exmaples.

Wow, I'm glad that I grabbed some LTC. That $30-$40 shot was nice.

FYI 1 or more wallets on Jaxx were robbed for 400,000 USD a few days ago. I don't know the details of the hack however so it's possible it was due to user error. That being said be wary and do your research and due diligence.

Don't use online wallets, no one should have your private keys except for you. The amount of times I've seen "oh I thought this wallet was safe" or "I thought this wallet was a good one" is staggering.

But, Blockchain dont reallty have your private keys do they? If you have a backup then you can recreat it.
Use 2FA for added security.

What i am worried at is keeping coins on the exchanges, here we dont even have a backup if they decides to run off with our coins.

The most secure wallet is running a full Ethereum node (Mist). Jaxx is cross-platform but there are some security concerns with it.

Hardware wallets like the Trezor or Ledger Nano S are best because transactions are signed offline thus even a compromised computer won't risk your coins being stolen.

I think it was freewallet.org that got hacked not jaxx. He asked about hot wallets.

But yes ultimately you should have an cold wallets. Running a Mist node still can be insecure depending on how you store the keys. JSON file on your desktop....not ideal.

Get a hardware wallet.

RE: The Ethereum Thread (the alt coin to Bitcoin)
Massive Litecoin pump is still continuing. No FOMO on my part as I don't consider it a long term hold, but for those holding still this is probably a good time to sell and collect profits or to buy back in later. Or maybe wait until tomorrow to sell the Monday news, but an LTC correction is coming soon, however minor or major it may be.

As for ETH, I hope none of the RVF crew panic sold their stash in this recent dip. I'm working on a post right now outlining my thoughts, but this recovery again has me very bullish on our outlook the rest of the year. Like I said before, the only number I've really been watching lately is the ETH/BTC ratio. During the dip, the lowest that number dropped to was about .128 or so. Currently hovering in the .135-.143 range on Polo the last couple days. I've got a long opened now that I don't plan to close in it's entirety until the end of June. This market moves in cycles. It's LTC's turn now, but another EEA announcement is likely coming at the end of the month, so it's probably only a matter of days at this point until we start pumping again.

Regarding the poloniex exchange:

I am curious if you guys have had problems processing withdraws from there to your wallet. They dismantled trollbox so I have waited 12 hrs with no response after submitting a support ticket for my problem. In my case, when I visit my deposit/withdraw history page it says completed: error next to withdraw. How long do these things typically take to get resolved on poloniex?

Damnit, I just picked up some litecoin today, and since it's via coinbase that means I get it in a week from now.
Well, I hope the rally lasts a week at least.

I've never had any issue withdrawing from Polo.

Did you check the transaction on the blockchain, how many confirmations?

You bought it at right pric, you just won't be able to trade it. Looks like it is stabilizing in the lower $40s. It has been less volatile than the other currencies (which I suspect is one reason it started getting picked up)

Do you mean it's a good coin to hold for the future?

Do you mean it's a good coin to hold for the future?

Some would disagree, but yes, it was designed to be the silver to Bitcoin's gold. It is an early, established fork from Bitcoin and has advanced technologically faster than Bitcoin has. The creator left Coinbase to focus on it, meaning he will be working on the technology and the adoption and marketing. It is faster than Bitcoin and more places are accepting it.

I suspect that much of this increase has been because Bitstamp will begin trading it on Monday. Many also suspect that it will benefit from the uncertainty over Bitcoin in August.

The science and community of developers are there, and it has a limited supply. In addition, it has marketing on its side -- many newbies to crypto get in on Coinbase. Bitcoin is expensive, and the term "ether" is a psychological deterrent, but Litecoin is affordable.

It has pushed forward, and surges are met with only minor dips before it stabilizes. Many who day trade between BTC and ETH often hold it in LTC between because it has not been as volatile.

All said, regardless of what you paid for it, when you actually receive it, you will likely be either about even or up in regards to USD.

It takes a week to get? I was planning to use Coinbase for an arbitrage experiment, but with that lag time there's no way. Shit.

Last time I put a buy in on coinbase, it locked in the price at that time I put the order in, but the actual BTC wasn't deposited into my account until the ACH funds cleared. However, if you already have fiat in coinbase, you get the crypto instantly.

Sam...

Your description of the coinbase policy seems a little bit off.

Just for clarification. When you buy on coinbase, the price is locked in and the purchase is final. Those litecoin are your, for good or for bad, and you got them for whatever, price you bought them for, plus the fee.

You cannot sell those specific coins or trade them until your ACH goes through... however, if you build a sufficient cushion (in any asset), then you could sell other portions of your asset (such as litecoin), if you think that either the market moves against you or you want to take advantage of the price going up before you are actually able to have specific access to those specific coins that you bought.

I think the moral of the story is that when you are first buying into a variety of crypto assets, there are going to be some liquidation issues and some issues getting in and out quickly, and the more experienced you get and the more assets you acquire and the more avenues of liquidation you acquire, the more you will be able to hedge against some of the shorter term liquidation issues (such as disadvantages in acquiring crypto assets through coinbase).

Any holes in this strategy:

Have credit card registered on Coinbase.

Have ETH stored on another foreign exchange.

Buy 5 ETH on Coinbase for $350 and at the exact same time sell 5 ETH for $370 on local exchange. Make $20 per ETH risk free.

Once I get my ETH on Coinbase, send it to foreign exchange.

Repeat.

The pricing spread is already confirmed, I just need to confirm the logistics. Might lose ~5% to fees, but it's still profitable.

First, you are not really clarifying what you are doing. If you buy with a credit card, then you get the coins instantly, and you likely pay more than 5% in fees by the time you add up all the fees, unless you have some kind of special credit card that does not charge fees.

When discussing issues and problems with delays, I think guys were referring to ACH transactions which have about a 1% or a 1.5% fee, and then you have to wait about a week for your ACH to clear.

What you are suggesting is a real and effective strategy to take advantage of arbitrage opportunities; however, there is a downside in: 1) identifying a sufficient enough price difference that you feel it is worth your time - of course you have to account for fees too, and 1% or 2% might not be sufficient to be worth your time, but that is a judgement call for you to make 2) there may be some accounting issues and just the burden of moving money around and keeping track 3) there may be tax ramification, and even if there are not, when you are dealing with transactions through your bank, it may not be worth the paper trail that it creates, even if you can figure out a way to discount possible tax consequences.
