A woman who stabbed her abusive partner to death with a kitchen knife in a champagne-fuelled frenzy has been cleared of his murder.

Elizabeth Hart-Browne, 27, declared ‘I have just killed the man I love’ after plunging a large kitchen knife into Stephen Rayner’s neck at their flat in Acton last September.

She denied murdering her boyfriend of six years saying she believed he was going to kill her as he had threatened to do in the past.

She has told jurors during a six-week trial that he would turn into Britain’s ‘most violent’ prisoner Charles Bronson, during attacks on her.

An Old Bailey jury deliberated for 15 hours to find the mother-of-two not guilty of murder.

A court heard how the jeweller launched the attack after returning to their flat from a party with her children sleeping just yards away.

She then staggered outside and collapsed in a pool of blood before phoning the police.

Prosecutors had claimed she could not control her emotions towards Mr Rayner and was driven by ‘paranoid jealousy’ fuelled by him using Tinder to have affairs.

Jurors heard how she had stabbed her partner twice before but still acquitted the defendant.

The mother claimed she had picked up the knife during a violent struggle and ‘forgot’ she was holding it when the blows were struck.

The couple had a history of abuse and Mr Rayner was ordered by a court to complete a domestic abuse programme after an attack outside a nightclub in 2012.

The mother told a jury she had even taken out life insurance in 2015 in the belief her partner would kill her.

But Rayner told friends that he had once had to wrestle a knife off Hart-Browne and on another occasion she had slashed his right arm.

The defendant has been held in custody since the night of the stabbing. She will now be hoping to be reunited with her children when she is released from prison.

No evidence of "abuse" of any kind by the fella put forward by prosecution, just "her feelings", at least he was at home looking after the kids...

They got lucky with jury selection. These cases are hard to decipher without watching the entire trial.

You have to be fucking kidding me. I remember reading this and saying she is guilty but here she is getting away with it.

Men need to stop keeping the violence from their other halfs on the down low because someday she might just plunge a large blade into you.

Both poorly written, hard to sort out the "she said" from the objective fact, but the guy did have a court case from a prior domestic abuse with her and she took out a life insurance policy - on herself, she said she was afraid her kids would have nothing. If she took it out on him, would be different of course.

There was probably enough evidence to show this guy was a rage monkey in a relationship that was full of crazy.

The burden was on the prosecution to show she could not have had fear for her life justifying the use of deadly force. They couldn't do it.

I am sure this article has been quoted before, but Dalrymple nailed these situations back in the nineties when he wrote of working in an emergency room as a doctor:

And when I guess at a glance that a man is an inveterate wife beater (I use the term "wife" loosely), they are appalled at the harshness of my judgment, even when it proves right once more.

I once represented a woman accused of stabbing (minor wound) her boyfriend. She was hot! Tall, brown, nice face, body. Ancestry was Trinidad Indian. Some relationship drama, can't remember what. Her and the boyfriend had got into it before with police involvement.
She could give usual life details, did not think she was particularly odd at arraignment.

Thing was, she showed up with her social worker at the pretrial hearing. Social worker because she was officially mentally retarded. Whether it was a SSDI scam, I don't know. But she and boyfriend definitely prone to retarded crazy fighting.

Can't remember exactly how it turned out, I think reduction to simple assault and battery and deferred adjudication with probation "programs."
