Hey guys in about a week or two me and my best friend will be traveling to Ukraine. I've been reading a lot of posts here and on other parts of the web with conflicting answers. We're both African American with game our two concerns are safety and which city has the most night clubs plus English speakers. I also attached a chart I grabbed from thekharkivtimes regarding the safest city overall.     I'm not sure if there is any truth to this ultimately I will be moving to Ukraine after this trip(I run an online company) so yeah I'd like to not live in a boring and dangerous neighborhood. Be careful there, Africans, Arabs, Turks etc are considered automatically by the locals most of the time to be sex tourists, don't let them have a wrong impression on you. Also be careful with hooligans/skinheads they can be dangerous, stay away from them, in Ukraine there is no political correctness you can say what ever the fuck is on your mind without losing your job like in America so prepare for lots staring and questions. Big cities like Kiev shouldn't be a problem since people there are more intelligent unlike the ural/less populated areas. Western Ukraine and Kiev have the most English speakers, many people from the Middle East and East Asia are studying in Kiev.

People will drop the N bomb casually. Its really weird. Don't take huge offense or fly off the handle. It's not the big insult it is back home. Just take a deep breathe and forget them.

I saw more black guys (and girls) during my few weeks in Kharkov and Dnipropetrovsk than I saw over many more months staying in Kiev. In Kharkov and Dnipropetrovsk no one really cared about them it nor no one took special notice. Apparently Kharkov at least has quite a big African student population as far as I heard.

It is true. I am in Kiev now. I have been walking around downtown all day today and I have seen precisely zero black guys or girls. In fact I've seen very few people who aren't white, and lots of white guys who smell of racism (and likely bigotism too). I agree that the girls will look at you or your pictures and immediately think "sex tourist", sad though that is to say :/ There are probably some girls who are curious though, if you can find your niche. Just watch your back...

OP.. I may have seen you guys today.

If you are in Kyiv that is.. And for kirdiesel, along with the two
fellows I saw, also walked passed another black guy today too.
So 3 in a day.

If you're African-American, girls will not think you're automatically a sex tourist. In Ternopil, and Western-Ukraine, most African-Americans are medical students at the Universities there, so they'll likely just think you're a student.

In other words, if you go to Ternopil, you'll fit right in.

Africans - like in real guys from AFrica - have been studying in the FSU since decades. They did not stop after the fall of communism. Quite a few engineers and doctors have been educated in the Ukraine and Russia.
