Hey guys first post

So I initially signed up to comment on some random news article.

Today I find that SKY BROADBAND SHIELD is
a) both live
b) blocking returnofkings.com as an unsafe site

To let you know the SKY BROADBAND SHIELD is kind of like a reverse safe-search function that rather than parents setting their computers so violent age restricted videos or pornographic images cannot be viewed by children- SKY automatically blocks websites.

However to unblock a flagged website as an adult you have to give
a) your real name
b) your address
c) your SKY account number
d) your e-mail address
e) the name of the internet account holder

This means if you lodge or share with someone (parents/student let/private rent) they have to give you their details. They don't have to which in effect means people may lose access to this website.

Now some people say this is a breach of privacy, censorship and a misuse of the war on the "redpill" movement and I agree.

Conversely an "escort hiring forum" WAS not blocked despite containing obscene pornographic nude images of romanian escorts (legs spread), explicit language of stories of guys detailing deep throat gagging reflex and rating and slating escorts.
This forum was endorsed by the BBC (British Broadcasting Corporation) and there is definately an agenda here as I thought prostitution was anti-female and therefore anti-feminism, and anti-social justice warrior.

What interesting times we live in...There was that UK Labour MP who lamented that Google & Facebook were "censoring" images of "breastfeeding mothers" posing naked with infants [See articles on UK government withdraws advertisement from Google because of "extremist" content]

It appears that the UK gov't wants to censor manosphere sites rather than the breastfeeding mothers who pose nude in front of infants? This is totally fuckin insane!

This has been going on for at least since Dec' '16 because I visited home, stayed at my mums and I couldn't access the forum (Returned no connection). When trying RoK it gave me the Shield page.

Had to install Zenmate, and then everything was fine. So it's not just RoK.

Just another reason to leave the UK, when the ISP's willingly block websites that simply contain "offensive" content to them.

Yes I believe this "shield" is in fact an attempt to block freedom of speech under the guise of "protecting people".

Yes I know you can alter the settings and turn the shield off PROVIDING
- You are the SKY account holder
- You have ths SKY password
- You have the last digits of the credit card bill
- You provide your full real name, address and postcode

However in light of "anti-trolling" measures and "feminist victims" using doxing methods to target bloggers that extend to discussing public figures can you not see a problem with that?

And like I said if you use a shared wi-fi network or rent you would in affect be blacklisted from viewing alternative media.

No I don't see how any of this is an "anti trolling" or protective feminist measures. In fact, i fail to see how any of this is connected. Care to explain how this is connected because all this looks like are simple web filters to keep kids off of porn sites.

If you're sharing wifi or renting, why don't you ask whoever the account holder is to unblock it? Say the blocks are overzealous and block legitimate websites.

Again, I fail to see the outrage.

Sites like ROK and RV typically find their way onto sloppily built third party category lists. SKY, EE etc then contract out the filtering to companies who use these lists.

Unless you're with SKY or in the UK you can't comment, no and as you can't read that's why you're failing to read/see a HUGE inconvenience.

In fact re-read my OP please. You comprehension of english can't be that bad.

EDIT In fact imagine this scenario. You rent out a room and get free broadband. You log onto rooshv returnofkings and SKY has blocked access to the URL. The person who rents out the room you have no contact with. What do you do?

Your excitability on this matter however is unwarranted. You think this is a mountain, when this is clearly a mole hill.

Disable the broadband content locks. Seriously, it takes 5 seconds. If you're renting, ask the landlord to disable it. Say it mucks with your VPN or whatnot.



And for your scenario of absent landlord, here's what I suggest you do:
Google how to bypass it. here's a link: http://bfy.tw/BGpm . It was the first hit.

These blocks only keep idiots who don't know how to use Google from getting to their sites.

Did your parents lock down your internet because they caught you wanking on a bad site?

Nope its a private residential address and the shield is being enforced by BT on all customers.

People argue BT could misuse the service to track and prosecute
- those who use torrents

I think VPN is the way forward here.
