Can someone please explain to me what the hell these protests are even about? I don't like Trump at all and I probably like Hilly Clinton even less. That being said, the guy won an election by a landslide. How is it logical or productive to then go and protest Trump or anything associated with him?

What's the revolutionary theory behind riots and demonstrations? How does a movement seek to use them for tactical and strategic advantage?

Is it mostly to put on a spectacle that will attract attention and show that the movement is well enough organized to gather a group together to beat the hell out of their adversaries? Is it a morale-boosting exercise so that the group feels that they were able to channel their anger into an action that was widely noticed, rather than just sitting at home talking to their confederates on blogs mostly ignored by the public?

You need to reverse your question. People will always voice their displeasure, it's human nature. "Leave me alone". "I'm sleeping". "Don't do that again". Of course when people do not listen, then they must be made to feel (German Proverb).

It's a game. People in power push. People being pushed, push back. The stronger wins. Demonstrations are a non-lethal way to say: look, I really don't want to have to crack your skull open, but if you keep pushing me, I will. If you can not back that up, then you will get your skull crushed, eventually. If you can back it up, people in power stop pushing for a while till they can find you weak enough to get their own way. Life is war. All is war. No exceptions.

To answer you question in reverse:

It is for one purpose only: to make people know their place. It is a display of power. It is to crush dissent. To stop those that get fucked over everyday from getting too uppity - pour encourager les autres - not to go getting any funny ideas.

There's some kind of mathematical log phase that can be hit with protests, where, when things get seriously exponentially out of hand, dictators get disemboweled on the steps of their palaces.

The clever part with all this is that Trump is not the Dictator. He is a buffer to the true dictators. He probably isn't even calling the shots at this point about when the cops stand down or stand up. All to obfuscate the matter further. Like layers of the onion, the true power-mongers play the the simple game of Chess - just 2D Chess.

The police out in force today are there to protect Antifa, not the proud boys or the Trump supporters. Antifa will wait this one out. Lose the battle, win the war - in their eyes. They will laugh at us jerking ourselves off over our little victory today. They will regroup with molotov cocktails when we have our guard down. And then they will burn people alive with the true courage of their convictions that can only come from hate deep in the heart. They will not rest until we are dead. But ideally they would like to see us humiliated first, because that is how they feel.

Today is a good day though. Enjoy your little victories. Life is full of little victories. Just remember this one was won by men, not going in to battle, but having the balls to show up and just say NO! (not to belittle their sacrifice).

When people get shot at demonstrations, then you tend to not get too many demonstrations after that.

The whole tactical stand down/stand up thing is just that. Playing the populus for the yo-yo's they are - yanking their chain. And of course with the internet they have the perfect feedback machine for seeing how far they can go and what they can get away with.

Sites like this are allowed to exist. We are as much useful idiots as anyone. But just to realise and know the wider game - that is something.

When the fool plays the fool, he does it in the higher knowledge that all people are fools: Kings, Queens, Peasants, Warriors...

And the fool gets the pass from the King, the Queen, the Peasant, the Warrior. But it is quite different to be the archetype of The Fool, and just end up being someone else's fool a la Eric Clanton.

I've been to protests where the police rioted and broke bones of the innocent protesters. Trampled them on horses. Cracked skulls. I have witnessed the power of the state first hand. I didn't go to another protest for a while after that.

There is a reason why the right to assembly and to peacefully protest is a cornerstone of democracy. The majority of people do not protest or riot when their bath is not drawn to the correct temperature, when they have to suffer Caviar from Kazakhstan as opposed to Iran, when they are above average weight and body mass but not yet obese, yet still not starving. Bread and circuses is enough for most people, most of the time.

Alas we seem to be getting to another stage in human evolution, where we are so awake and so sick at what we have become, that we are demanding a reset.
