On a tangent, but there were two moments of red pill in the otherwise forgettable Billy Crystal/Bette Midler comedy Parental Guidance.

The one which is germane here was this exchange between Bette Midler as Diane, the (grand)parent and Marisa Tomei as her (adult) daughter:

Alice: "My father doesn't listen!"
Diane: "How is this Artie's fault?"
Alice: "You always take his side."
Diane: "And for good reason, because after your kids grow up, your husband is the one who stays."

Got me right in the feels. I cannot remember any other occasion in modern cinema when a long-married wife ever says this about her husband. Modern film only represents (and therefore only models for Western society) three occasions in a relationship: the beginning, the aftermath, and the dysfunctional marriage. Look up Last Psychiatrist's review of The Descendants for more about this.
